Posted - Jan 22 2009 : 12:07:03 AM Rose, I like the hat stand idea. That is great. I have hats that I like to wear but they will do much better on a hat stand.

Posted - Jan 20 2009 : 6:53:08 PM Yay - I love the new topic!! Amy Grace And yes, Meg, it is amazing how much you can make at home. We are trying to save money right now for a trip and my husband is working less hours because of the weather, and just with changing our buying habits we are able to save money even with less money!!

Posted - Jan 20 2009 : 3:38:23 PM I posted this idea on another link but not very many farmgirls have seen or checked the link out so I thought I would also share it here. You can make a great hatstand out of a wooden free standing paper towel holder (might cost $1 at the thrift store) and small wooden salad bowls (almost about $1 at the thrift or even less at yard sales).
Invert the bowel on the top the towel holder (I have used a large wooden candlestick as well or let your imagination soar) screw it down, paint your color choice and voila! you have a great sturdy hat stand to display those cool hats you collect.

Posted - Jan 20 2009 : 06:59:19 AM Cool new topic! I'm just about as poor as a church mouse so I'll be keeping my eye on this one, lol!
One great thing I've been learning lately is how much can be made from scratch at home- things I never thought I could make. Bagels, tortillas, pita bread, pizza dough- it's all totally doable and saves a lot of money instead of buying them pre-made from the store. If you have an old 'Joy of Cooking' around, you are set to go!

Posted - Jan 20 2009 : 04:16:28 AM Wow, it sure didn't take them long to get it on here. Thank you MaryJane, Carol and Gabe.
I don't really have any frugal tips and tricks at the front of my mind at the moment. You know how it is - you do things a certain way for so long that you don't even stop to think about whether or not it's frugal! But, I'm anxiously awaiting anybody else's ideas.
