Hello fellow farmgirl sisters! I am a newbie farmgirl and I've been embroidering my sisterhood badge quite merrily. However, I do admit tht I am stumped as to how I will display my merit badges...I have a few ideas - I could put them on an apron or a bag of course, but I would just love to know how all of you are displaying yours. Any ideas? Back in Scouts we just put them on a sash, but ha ha that's not an option with us. Well, ok, I suppose I could rig up a sash of sorts, but that idea isn't too appealing to me. What do you think?

Lynette, that is really pretty the way you hand embroidered it. I am thinking of doing the same thing (I could also work on the embroidery badge at the same time  }
Mary, the thought of doing an hexagon quilt has crossed my mind. If you borrow CJ's idea of buttons for the levels it would not effect the size of your hexagon.

Nicole, I absolutely love the raw farmgirl style of your badge. You can tell at a glance it was hand stitched and I think it is beautiful. I have done very little embroidery and after stitching my chicken and felt like it wasn't 'perfect' so I sort of gave up on the rest.
After seeing how beautiful your patch looks on the denim I am encouraged to finish mine. I know that when I'm done, it will be all me, hand stitched and as quirky as I am and that will be just right. Thank you for sharing and for encouraging me!

Sara, your idea sounds wonderful. Would love to see pictures of your painted/embroidered badges.
Marilyn, Sounds like a lovely plan for displaying your badges. Would enjoy seeing pictures.
Aren't badges fun to work on? Just last night I was reviewing by binder and started working on some new ones!

I just got my first badge, and I was so happy to find this forum. The badge was much larger than I had anticipated it being, so I wanted to make sure I hadn't copied it too big.
I think I will do redwork embroidery on mine and then sew them into hexagon flowers. Probably applique each flower to a pillow top of some red bandana quilt and make pillows for the sofa in my "lodge" room.
Now back to work on my next badge!

My first four merit badges I embroidered or painted and put on fabric luggage tags. I hang them on panty/cabinet door knob to remind me that I have something fermenting and need to check on it. When not in use they hang on pegs by the front door. I like the way they look just hanging there over my collection of canes.
The others I want to embroidery with either all red or brown thread. That's as far I have gotten ~~~ don't know what I will do with them next.
I have always loved red or brown embroidery. All I need to do is decide which one I want to use ~~~ right now I am lending toward the brown.

I love everyone's ideas here! Very clever and inspiring. My plans are to attach mine to a large tote that has one of the vintage MJF Farmgirl panels on the front. Hopefully, I can get something done this summer when it is blazing hot and I need something to keep me happy inside in the AC!!

CJ, I like the idea of buttons indicating the levels. I was going to hand embroidery lines. Hum ... I may just borrow your idea. You can get such cute buttons.

I'm going to make mine into a Grandma's Flower Garden quilt with the badge in the middle and green hexagons around the sides. Now if I only had time to start a badge.

I don't have a final plan for my badge quilt yet, but at this point, I'm not planning on sewing them together. I'm planning on sewing them onto individual blocks of different fabrics and then sew the blocks together. I plan a mini-quilt that will basically be a wall quilt. It'll probably have the appearance of a "somewhat organized crazy quilt" . . :D.
I realize that, even with sewing them onto blocks I didn't have to have backing on them. I did that so that they would have some "finished" effect . . . who knows when that quilt will happen.

Just finished my Sisterhood badge! I haven't embroidered anything since I was a teenager (I'm 42 now), so I think I'm a little rusty 
I think it is going on my project bag, centered up of course, on the front flap -and then I can put others around the bag as I finish them.
I might change my mind though - I really like CJ's idea of a mini quilt!

I trace my badges onto "Super Muslin", which is a nice weight and weave, (in my opinion) and is natural colored, that I get at Walmart. I think this works well! Embroider and wash out the blue tracing, which is a total breeze. Then I iron them to other fabric, such as a gingham print or whatever(I typically just use a lighter weight cotton blend in a natural color) using "Wonder Under". Cut them into the hexagon with pinking shears and sew on my buttons. I also use a fine pen to write the badge name on them I use a Zig "Millennium" pen which is "pigment ink, acid free, archival quality, lightfast, waterproof, fade proof, non-bleeding" (that's what is printed on it). Depending on the badge but I've also embellished them with ribbon, other buttons, etc. For example the "Buttoned Up" badge is buttons I sewed on, instead of embroidering the button design, the "Quilting" one is little pieces of fabric cut to fit the badge design that I applied with "Wonder Under" and then did top stitching to make the pieces look like they were hand stitched together. (You can sort of see those two in the top picture, the quilted one on the lower right and the buttons on the left side above the horse.) The "Bee" one in the bottom picture I actually used a couple little bee iron-on appliques, one on the honey server handle and one in place of the one of the buttons.
I have had a lot of fun with these!

CJ~ Did you embroider yours on felt? I'm having a hard time getting my badges transferred neatly with my washable pen and tracing. Any tips or tricks to get them nice and neat?

These are some of mine. The top picture is one that was taken for the 2010 Farmgirl Sister of the Year info. (Picture is 2 years old!)
Wearing my sisterhood badge which is made into a pin so I can wear it on anything. Because of my Scottish heritage I used a tartan plaid edging with some Celtic inspired buttons, etc. and a stick pin that has the Armstrong Clan crest on it.
I sewed buttons on them for the different levels. So, if I've earned all three levels for that badge, there are 3 buttons on them, usually sewn on the lower right hand part.
I haven't put them on anything but my plan is to make them into a mini-quilt. I don't want to put them on something that gets a lot of wear since I don't want them to get tattered or messed up.
Hopefully that mini quilt will come to pass sooner rather than later.

Wow! This post is from so long ago! I have stuck with putting my badges on my jacket. I am behind on embroidering them, so when I run out of room on the jacket I will do something else with them. Here's a newer picture, although it is not that recent.
There are more badges than that now, and I have really improved with embroidering and attaching them.

I'm working on mine right now, but not finished with any of them yet. I hope some other girls show us their completed badges they've earned! I am loving the therapeutic nature of all this embroidery! It's quite fun!
