I read this a few years ago and I think I will read it again.
IT SAYS-
Between 1785 and 1812 a midwife and healer named Martha Ballard kept a diary that recored he arduous work. In 27 years she attended 816 births as well as recording her domestic life in Hallowell, Maine.
This is a really good book and you gotta wonder how they got by at all back then.

This is a great book. And there's a documentary based on it too. Check your library for the video!

ooh, i've been wanting to read this book after my history teacher recommended it. it's on my list at paperbackswap.com (i'm glad there are other country gals who are on there! i love it!)

Thanks for the book recommendation and also for the paperbackswap website.....never heard of that one. I will check it out! thanks girls! I'm not a midwife but I did not get out of bed this morning...so what does that make me? Don't answer that....
