Posted - Sep 16 2008 : 11:16:22 AM The thread about the book on homesteading reminded me of one of my favorites, Pioneer Women by Joanna L Stratton. It is a collection of letters written to the author's great grandmother for the purpose of writing a book. The author found them in 1975. It is called "voices from the Kansas Frontier". Unblieveable what these women went thought. |

Posted - Feb 02 2009 : 1:31:31 PM For fiction books on Pioneer women a couple good ones are A Lantern in Her Hand by Bess Streeter Aldrich. If you have seen the movie A Mothers GIft on Hallmark that is based on this book. It was first copywritten in 1928. The other I found by accident is Hannah Fowler by Janice Holt Giles, first out in 1956. They are pretty basic and I think pretty realistic of what life was like, quite hard. Just a FYI if anyone is interested. Rae
