The thread about the book on homesteading reminded me of one of my favorites, Pioneer Women by Joanna L Stratton. It is a collection of letters written to the author's great grandmother for the purpose of writing a book. The author found them in 1975. It is called "voices from the Kansas Frontier". Unblieveable what these women went thought.

I haven't heard of it on PBS and I work for them. But then each channel can run its own programming as well. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Shelly, I meant PapberBackSwap.com You can trade books there. That's what I meant by PBS ;)

I was offered it twice on that site, but no credits :(
I have 2 books I sent out so as soon as I get the crdiets for those, I'll get the Pioneer Woman book!

For fiction books on Pioneer women a couple good ones are A Lantern in Her Hand by Bess Streeter Aldrich. If you have seen the movie A Mothers GIft on Hallmark that is based on this book. It was first copywritten in 1928. The other I found by accident is Hannah Fowler by Janice Holt Giles, first out in 1956. They are pretty basic and I think pretty realistic of what life was like, quite hard. Just a FYI if anyone is interested.

Thanks Rae - I have read the Bess Streeter Aldrich book, plus a couple of others of hers, but haven't read the other - have you read "No Time on My Hands"? Also a good one about a woman whose family homesteaded in Nebraska - she was an amazing quilter too

Here is another Nebraska author that you might enjoy, Stephanie Grace Whitson. She has several 2-3 book series that talk about womens lives in early Nebraska. She has a web site that you can read a little bio on her books it is just her whole name .com.
