Hi girls-

I had to be admitted tonight. Have a total heart block (complications to bundle branch block). Basically the top and bottom of my heart are no longer communicating and doing their own thing. Not good at all. Tomorrow they are scanning my heart to see if the sarcoid has invaded my heart, and then installing a pacemaker. I`m sure I'll be fine even though it doesn't feel that way, but sure would appreciate prayer right now. I`m scared. I'm brave. I'm strong, but I'm scared. Thought it was the big one a few times there this afternoon, believe me. Seem to be stable now, but really am hoping for your prayers. :)

It`s amazing to me that the hospital is providing WiFi! The wonders of modernity. :) whodathunkit?

Well prob won't write for a few days, but I will check in as I can. I'll be thinking of all of you, and lifting all of you and your needs in prayer, too. Love you all dearly. Thanks for being my sisters!

Hugs and love,
Nini

You are so special Nini, God is with you and knows how much you love him. Maybe you weren't supposed to open those envelopes until now so that they would make you feel good at the right time and keep you feeling good. Yes you are Nini and we hear you roar and we are blessed by that.

Blessings dear one.

Nini, I am so happy that your condition is stable and that you can continue to get back to your usual routines! Such wonderful news! You know they say all of us just need to take one day at a time because that is all we really have. We all have issues that might be a problem in the future, but if we get a clean bill of health for the present, that is golden! So glad you can drive again and that you are feeling better and able to get back to doing things you love to do!!

So glad to hear that so many prayers were answered!!

:) Thanks, girls...

You know, Cindy - you are SO right! I am counting on the doctor being wrong! ;) I've seen that before, too. It's a little tough to take when they're talking about you, but you're so right. I'm glad he covered all the bases, but I'm not going to dwell on the possibilities, don't worry. God is bigger than anything - even the doctor, whether he believes it or not! LOL!

At times like this, I find great solace in something my Grandma used to say, "Only the good die young!" She was such a good, sweet peach - the BEST - and she lived to be 93!!! If she was so good and lived that long, I'm betting I'll make it, at the very least, to the Tri-Centennial! :)

Actually, I'll let you in on a little secret... The night I was admitted, the nurse who cared for me stopped in to check on me, and lingered just a little while to chat. She asked me what I was most concerned about? Of course, I choked back the tears as I told her I was afraid it was sarcoid. Now this lady didn't know me from Adam. She smiled, gently touched my arm and said, "I'm a believer - do you believe?" I said, "Yes!" "Can I share something with you?" she asked. "Yes! Of course!" I replied. She said, "Well, I'm also a praying woman, and I see your heart. Don't worry. It's not sarcoid. You don't have to worry about that. It's not sarcoid. You've been through enough." I couldn't believe what had just happened! I could've kissed her! We had a nice little chat about our faith after that, and all the wonderful things God has done for us over the years. What a great affirmation. I really needed the reminder. What a blessing! God love and bless her! That evening was the last time I saw her the entire stay, too - isn't that funny? I know how crazy that sounds to some, but every step of the way, her words have proven true! Pretty awesome God we have to have sent an earth angel like that to allay my fears, huh?! And what great faith and compassion she had to speak those words to me - I'm sure the hospital would've frowned on that big time! God bless her!

Happy Day! Happy, Happy Day!

Hugs -

Nini

I have no doubt that you will be with us for a VERY long time Nini. God has put you here on Earth with us for a reason. You are one of his angels among us, of that I am convinced!
Glad you are feeling good, and as Cindy said, a positive attitude will do wonders for you, no matter what your ailments are, so keep it up girl!
Sending much love and big hugs your way!!!

God loves you, Nini, and I think he intends to keep you around for a long time! Scary things do happen from time to time, but doctors really do tend to project a worse case scenario (I've seen it several times) and they're usually WRONG. A positive outlook can do wonders, and you have a positive outlook. I'll keep praying for you and if I'm ever in PA, I'll be sure to watch out for you on the road!

Nini, I think I can safely speak for everyone when I say we are THRILLED to be stuck with you!!! :) I'm so glad to hear that you're settling back into life at home. It's amazing to me that such a big and caring heart could have anything wrong with it. I'll be praying that God guards that muscle and nothing dares to come against it. It sounds like you're doing everything right by taking it easy and listening to your body, so keep it up, and thanks for checking in! It's so great to "see" you around here again!

Hi girls! I'm good! I'm really good! Don't worry! God is hearing and honoring your prayers! I saw the doctor today and everything is doing great – the incision has healed very well, the pacemaker is doing its thing. I’m really, really good, thank God! :)

The doctor said the pacemaker is working 2% of the time on the top part of my heart and 3% on the lower portion. If things continue in this manner and my need for the pacemaker’s assistance doesn’t progress, I should be good to go for the next 12 years before the battery needs to be replaced! How cool is THAT?! He also said that whatever I felt with the electric toothbrush really couldn’t have been an interaction with the pacemaker – he said it doesn’t work that way. Well, it did. They always tell me stuff isn’t there or happening and it’s all in my head, but then I’m always proven right. No point in arguing. All he said was that they’re insulated against that kind of thing .. or something like that. All the weird feelings I’ve been experiencing he is attributing to my heart itself. The pacemaker doesn’t stop my heart from fluttering or skipping a beat or from beating too fast – it only maintains my heartbeat when it falls below a certain level of beats per minute. What I’m feeling is nothing to worry about. It’s normal for me. I can now move forward and do a little more activity, taking it easy and not pushing it. His main concern is that I don’t do heavy lifting, or anything strenuous, or raise my arm above my head – the leads really need time to heal into my heart. So, for the next six months or so, I’m just taking things slow and easy. I can deal with that! LOL. I go back in three months at which point he’ll make any necessary adjustments and give me a remote monitor so they can check the pacer from my home. It’s all good!

Now for the more scary portion of the program…

He pulled out a chart with an image of a heart and went into more detail about what was happening with the conductivity. Long story short, he said if he was a betting man, he’d say it is sarcoid. For one, you just don’t see this kind of thing happening in a person my age. For two, no test – not even the MRI if they had been able to perform it – is definitive. This condition is extremely rare, extremely serious, and definitely not stress-induced. He said there is always a very slight and rare chance that this is a congenital thing; I could’ve had this as a kid and it really didn’t manifest until now, but he has no way of knowing that. He kept stressing how serious the condition is, that there is definitely something wrong, and given my history with CNS sarcoid, it only reasons to serve in his mind that this is sarcoid. Further, he HAS seen all of this before – in his sarcoid patients. <sigh> Thankfully, though, as long as the problem remains solely within my heart’s conductivity, the pacemaker will take care of anything that comes my way. The pacer can maintain my heartbeat and keep me alive well into my old age, with regular monitoring and replacement as necessary. The problem arises if the sarcoid attacks the heart muscle. A pacer can’t make your heart pump. If that happens, he said, we’ve got a mess on our hands. If you had seen the look on his face… oh, man… not good. Don’t want that! He said he considers me to be a very lucky young lady, though, because other than the conductivity issue, my heart is healthy – VERY healthy! No blockages, no bad tissue, all my bloodwork is great; there’s no evidence of anything else that would give them pause. Whatever I’m doing, apparently I’m doing it right. :) I asked him if there were anything I could do to prevent the sarcoid from invading my heart muscle. He just shook his head, looked down and said no. He said that it may never even invade the heart muscle, but if it does, all they will do is treat me with steroids and other medicines until my heart stops working. Eghads. I can’t even think about that.

Thankfully he did give me permission to drive again. Yep. Look out PA – I’m back on the road! LOL! Had I not had the pacemaker installed, they would not have allowed me to drive any longer. The way this condition is, with the left and right bundle branch blocks, my heart could’ve stopped at any time. But, as I said, that's no longer a concern as long as I’ve got my pacemaker. Having both left AND right bundle branch blocks is life-threatening. I had to have it. Without it, the full heart block could happen at any time; and if it did, it’d be curtains, angels with halos and harps... Pretty scary stuff, huh? Well, at least I don’t have to worry about THAT anymore. :)

For now, I really am healthy. Yep. Sad to inform you, you’re stuck with me for a while. Tee hee. I’d be lying if I said I’m not scared about the sarcoid invading any other part of my system at all, of course; but for now, I’m good to go. Praise the Lord! I’m just asking that you will please keep me in your prayers – even if it’s just from time to time. I really just want God to heal me and remove any hint of sarcoid from my body. He can fix me – I know He can! All things are possible in Christ Jesus! This must go!

Oh! And I started sorting through all our mail from the past few weeks today... I was so surprised to find so many cards and a couple of packages in there from some of you! My goodness! I didn't want you to do that!!! But I'm so tickled that you did! THANK YOU!!! I'm sorry I had you all so worried! I will email each of you personally very soon. I just want you to know I didn't realize they were in there. All I saw was a big heap of envelopes, thought they were probably bills, EOBs, and junk mail, and decided to give myself a break from all of that until after I saw the doctor today! Now I feel bad... But it really was such a treat to find them there this afternoon! Thank you so much!

I can’t thank you ALL enough for all your prayers, best wishes and loving words of support. Yes, the sarcoid thing IS scary, but I really don’t want you to worry – I really am going to be fine! I am Nini: hear me roar! Meeeeooooowwww! ;)

Hugs and love,

Nini

I'm here! I'm here! All is well! No worries! The pacemaker is DEFINITELY working - takes a little getting used to, but I'm really, really, REALLY okay... I am amazed at how quickly the incision is healing and how quickly I've been able to move around again! AWESOME!!! Then we had some problems with our internet for a day or two (cable company fixed it - thank goodness!), and after THAT had to have another (long overdue) eye injection on Wednesday, so not seeing so well yet (clear fluid filled the white - looking pretty weird, but it will go down soon and I'll be seeing well again in no time! It happens... No need to worry!). Rains/pours... but chin up, right? After all, spring is around the corner, and the flowers will soon be budding! :) You are all in my thoughts and prayers as well... Just taking it one day at a time, that's all! Looking forward (tongue-in-cheek-ly) to a big huge ice and snowstorm expected to hit our area sometime Sunday into Monday - all ready to hunker down and light candles! I also see the pacemaker surgeon (still don't know his title) on Thursday. After that, all should be well!

Let's move onto happier things... I've got a lot of catching up to do! How are all of YOU? Can I pray for YOU for anything specific today?

Thanks so much for everything - I just love you girls! :)
