I received a phone call late last night from ny oldest sister, informing me that the grandson of one of our other sister's hung himself.
A troubled young man in his early 20s, but had been in treatment and counseling. His parents (my niece and her hubby) believed things were much more positive and he was doing better.
My niece and her husband decided to take a two week vacation. He was at their home, his older brother available if needed. Apparently he decided life was not worth living. He called his parents early last week to ask when they would be home. They tried to call him towards the end of the week but couldn't reach him. His older brother was not able to be reached at that moment in time either.

I cannot imagine how absolutely horrible it would be to come home from a two week vacation, open the garage door and see your son hanging there . . . dead, by his own hand. Indescribable!!!

Please lift this family up in your prayers, especially my niece, her husband, the older brother and sister. My sister and her husband, his grandparents . . . and all the extended family. For me, words fail me as I struggle with what to say or not to say.

Thank you so much!
CJ

Thank you farmgirl friends. Coming up for this family in the next 3 weeks is the wedding of my niece's niece (daughter of one of her sister's) and the family will all be together again but this time under much happier and more celebratory conditions. I pray for this to promote further healing and bonding in the relationships of the immediate family. My oldest sister (another aunt) and her daughter are traveling for the wedding as well.
Thanks again!

Not sure how I missed your post CJ but I am so deeply sorry for your family. I can't even imagine how horrible this had to have been for his parents and siblings. I hope they're able to understand that he didn't do this to hurt them but was hurting so much himself he most likely didn't even think of the effect on whoever found him. Depression can be so destructive. It is particularly sad when a young person takes their own life. If only they could know that a month or so from the day when all things look so bleak to them their lives could be completely turned around perhaps they'd not harm themselves but most can't ever see that. My prayers for your whole family.

Latest communication with my niece is that she and her hubby are both returned to work. Finding it helps keep focused and occupied. They are at different places in their grieving but are receiving so much support from family, community and church. My niece is finding it hard at times in her job (she's a teacher).
So, they are moving on . . . grief is still ever present.
Thanks for your prayers!

Just a quick update note: I did receive an email from my niece. They are beginning the "moving on journey". She described the memorial service, the church services the next day and the family activities. She described some things she and her husband (the dad) are doing as well as the older brother and sister to cope, remember and start moving on.
Her email made me weep!!!
She talks about the pain and grief but how they are all being wrapped in love and care from family, co-workers, community members, church members . . . and the INCREDIBLE LOVE AND GRACE OF GOD!!! And there is so much hope in her words!
Thanks for your continued prayers!
CJ

Oh Cj,

This is so hard. I am still praying for the whole family, for hearts to be healed and comforted and for the Lord to replace your niece's images (of seeing her son)with good memories of him.

Thanks for all the encouragements and your prayers.
I have not communicated with anyone since the memorial service. My guess is that there is a lot going on with family from out of town and such. I'm sure that some will be returning home soon and I'll give them a few days for things from the weekend to settle down to check in again.
I'm just continuing to pray for all . . . this isn't something that will end just because the memorial service is past.
Thanks again my friend!

I can't even and don't want to put myself into that mother's position. Think I need to go and hug my babies...

I'll be praying for all those grieving. May God's peace surround all.

I cannot tell you how much your prayers mean . . . thank you so much!
My niece says they are "doing okay" and are grateful for all the support and encouragements. Family from out of town will be arriving, if they haven't already, for the memorial service tomorrow.
This is a Christian family and they are drawing on the strength of the Lord, thankful for His hand and presence.

Thank you again farmgirls!

CJ,

I am very sorry to hear about this loss in your family. A death is a difficult thing, and a suicide is so hard to deal with. You and your entire family are in my thoughts as everyone gathers to say goodbye to this young man and I am sending thoughts of comfort for his parents and brother. (((Hugs))) to you, CJ.

CJ my heart is just hurting for you and your family. Prayers being sent right now. And know that there is really nothing that can be said to ease this pain. Other that handing it over to the Lord. He had to be a very troubled young man and now his mind is at rest. God Bless him. Hang in there sister, God will mend the heart.

The sister (another of my niece's) of the mom spent the weekend with them. In her update emails to me she states they are getting tremendous support from people around them. They are hurting soooooo much and grieving soooo deeply. My niece (Mom) is struggling with waking up to the images of finding him.

Some family is there, other family will be coming in for his service on Saturday.

Your continued prayers are so very much coveted and appreciated!
Thank you so much!
