Posted - Nov 12 2010 : 09:53:30 AM Lori, sorry for your hard times. Look at the whole and you will see things that you and your daughter can do to make things better. When my hubby retired (2 YEARS NOW) I stopped working to be with him we had a drop in income of over $55,000 in a years time. I make most of all our cloths, I cook from scratch no pre made or frozen meals, I stay at home as much as I can, We garden, can and freze as much as we can my husband also hunts and I cook it. We do not spend over $200.00 a month on grocerys. We do not watch or have a TV set. We read and do crafts. one can make changes that are good for the whole. It takes time and work but it is do able. Also a naturalist is a very good thing. Not all herbs sold in stores are good for you because of the added ingredents so be watchful of that. There is a book out called eatting for you blood type. You would be suprised at the foods that can be harmful to just because of the blood type you have. The wrong foods can put you and keep you in depression so look into it as well. Love and Prayers for you take care. Lilly

Posted - Oct 28 2010 : 5:32:15 PM Lori,
This is a hard time for you and my thoughts are with you. Make sure you talk to your daughter about it. You may think she is only 13, but that's a good age and to buckle down you may need to do things like cancel your cable, not take as many trips on your days off work. If you explain she is more likely to understand and may come up with some great ideas to help out. Never underestimate a child. We were all brilliant once.
I don't know what your bills are like, but there are things you can do around the house. It won't bring in an instant change but can help in the long term. Put everything but your fridge, water heater, and alarm clock on power strips and turn them off when you are not using them. This is true for the radio, tv, computer, etc. When you plug your cell phone in to charge give it four hours instead of overnight and unplug it. Turn down your water heater. Maybe you do all these, but sometimes when I'm down if I focus on the pragmatic I do better.
Keep your chin up, read a book (my answer to everything) and go stay with your parents if that is what you need. Don't feel ashamed. So many folks are going through a hard time. I have a friend getting ready to loose their house. It is crazy.
We are here for you.

Posted - Oct 28 2010 : 09:11:24 AM Lori were I you I would try the St. John's Wort first. Swansons on the internet has the best prices I have ever seen on that sort of stuff. However, if you come across KavaKava I would leave that one alone for now. It can become addictive in some circumstances. Quite a while ago I did see something from Germany regarding St. John's and it was very positive. The other is to find something that soothes you; sewing, reading, listening to music and when you are thinking that you are alone try doing the thing that helps. All trite stuff I admit and probably stuff you know already but I am praying that the Lord will tuck you tightly under those large wings of his and give you peace.

Posted - Oct 28 2010 : 08:27:55 AM Lori, I was praying that the 401K would come through. You are right, now the next step is a budget and changing your spending habits. You have to know if it is a Need or a Want. It actually is a challenge and sometimes fun to find ways to be frugal. Lots of farmgirls here can give some tips. Maybe if you have something to focus on it will also help your depression. Still praying for you to find the strength you need to see you through this rough patch.

Posted - Oct 28 2010 : 07:27:35 AM I'm so glad to here that you can save your home, with that a sense of safety and stability. I have been down to my last dime and understand. Work on that budget! I'm cheering for you here in Idaho. May there be many blessing opening up for you.
I'm likely giving you the unpopular answer here, but I suffer from bad bouts of depression. I am allergic to a lot of herbs that deal with depression and take a commercial anti-depressant from my doctor. It is far better than being depressed. I know that St. John's Wort is one of the best anti depressant herbs. Maybe a post under the health section of the forum will get some more information on it for you =)
Hugs and more hugs for you and your daughter. Keep posting, we will be here =)
