Posted - May 06 2010 : 1:49:18 PM At my 16 year old daughters yearly check-up the doctor found a huge amount of protien in her urine. He did blood and urine tests, sent them to the lab saying "nothing to worry about, see ya in a month." Three days later his office called and said to come in that day. Doctor said my daughter is passing more than 300 times the protien than is allowable and said that he had never seen anything like this in his practice. He said usually Diabetics pass some protien but not ever near what my daughter is passing and she is not diabetic. She shows no symptoms but she needs to see a Pediatric Nephrologist (kidney specialist). We finally found one across the state line in VA. This may be very serious and I am very worried. She has her appointment in Friday 05/07. Will let you know how everything goes but I would appreciate a couple of prayers on her behalf. Thanks, Connie |

Posted - Aug 17 2010 : 12:12:15 PM Praise the Lord! Sounds like a miracle after all!!! Now we will pray for continued healing. COMPLETE remission! How excited you must be, Connie. And I'm glad to hear you're taking care of yourself as well. Thank you so much for bringing us an update! Visit us often and keep us updated on her (and your) progress.
Our Great and Awesome Father, we THANK YOU for Your healing touch. Thank You, Lord that the reports we receive that bring fear are NOT Your reports and that we can believe and rely upon Your mighty hands for a greater outcome. We thank You that Connie's daughter is healed and we pray that her healing will continue and last for ever. We also pray for Connie's continued peace and healing in her own body. Give her faith to continue relying on You each and every day and endurance as she continues to take ahold of her and her daughter's health in their eating/exercise habits. Thank You, Father, for our sister Connie and the miracle You have given her in a healthy daughter. I pray that her testimony of healing will give faith and hope to many others who are battling with a discouraging report from a doctor. May You be glorified! In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN!

Posted - Aug 17 2010 : 10:35:59 AM Have not updated for a while. I thought I should share the good news! My daughter is in remission. Her dosage of steroids had been slowly reduced and the weight gain and medication induced Acne are improving. She gained about 22 pounds but has taken it well. Her attitude during her illness was not so great and she flunked 10th grade. Even though she passed all her subjects she refused to do the 10th grade part of her graduation project! Her pediatric nephrolgist said that alot of children who develop FSGN never go into remission and if she can stay in remission for two years she may remain in remission forever. Another blessing that occured this summer was that I was not taking care of myself and became sick. My doctor discovered that my blood sugar was over 400 and I had ignored every symptom of Diabetes. My A1c was 11.6 (supposed to be 7) and I am on Insulin on a temporary basis. I have lost 20 pounds, completely changed my eating habits and my daughter and I work out and swim at the Y several times a week. In spite of the difficult times my family experienced during the last several months I have made improvements in my life and now feel better that I have in years. It was in great part to the support and encouragement of my farmgirls sisters that gave me the strength to grow aand change during adversity and to respect the Lord's blessing for improving my daughters health. God bless you all! |

Posted - Jun 29 2010 : 5:43:29 PM Connie - just found this thread - I am praying for a miracle. This is not God's will that one of His children would have such a horrible condition. I am praying that you are surrounded by people who love you and will uplift you. I am praying for only caring, brilliant caregivers for your daughter. Hugs to both of you.

Posted - May 28 2010 : 8:49:41 PM Connie, I am so sorry that you got such a disheartening diagnosis for your daughter. I am going to add her to my nightly prayer and have some friends and family lift her up in prayer too. Hang in there mama. Hold onto hope. Let us know what you hear from the nephrologist. (((Hugs)))

Posted - May 28 2010 : 07:49:52 AM +update+ Just got the final diagnosis. My daughter has Focal Segmental Glomerulo Sclerosis, commonly referred to as FSGS. This is an uncommon form of Chronic kidney disease found primarily in males and most common in African American males (go figure, my daughter is a very pale, blond, blue-eyes girl). Only 5400 cases are diagnosed in a year. Her case is an agressive form and overy half of the filters in her kidney are dead due to scarring. Without treatment, her kidneys will fail in, on average, 5-6 years, but with the amount of scarring Kira has, kidney failure would happen in about thre years. Treatment is non-exsistant, as it is an auto-immune disease disease in which the body attacks itself. Massive doses of steroids can sometimes put it into remission (in about 50-60% of cases). She at some point will almost certainly need diaylsis. Kidney transplantation is also an option, but since it is an auto-immune disease, often the body will attack the new, good kidney. This will most certainly affect her life as will the side effect of massive doses of Prednisone. I'm cryinmg an shaking so badly thazt I really can't write more right now but I appreciate the c are and concern you have given us. Will see the Nephrologist next week and will update them. Not the diagnosis or prognosis we had hoped for we will deal with the cards we are delt. |
