Hi Farmgirls, I don't know about you but I love drinking fresh lemon water each day. Here are some great benefits for drinking lemon water and why everyone should drink it everyday. Enjoy!
Hugs,
Channah

Lemon is an inexpensive, easily available citrus fruit, popular for its culinary and medicinal uses. It is used to prepare a variety of food recipes such as lemon cakes, lemon chicken and beverages like lemonade and lemon-flavored drinks. It is also used for garnishing. Lemon juice consists of about 5% citric acid that gives a tarty taste to lemon. Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C. It also contains vitamins like vitamin B, riboflavin and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium as well as proteins and carbohydrates. Lemon is generally consumed in the form of lemon juice or lemon water. Lemon water makes a healthy drink, especially when taken in the morning. Daily consumption of lemon water provides a number of health benefits like:

1.Good for stomach

Lemon can help relieve many digestion problems when mixed with hot water. These include nausea, heartburn and parasites. Due to the digestive qualities of lemon juice, symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, bloating and belching are relieved. By drinking lemon juice regularly, the bowels are aided in eliminating waste more efficiently. Lemon acts as a blood purifier and as a cleansing agent. The intake of lemon juice can cure constipation. It is even known to help relieve hiccups when consumed as a juice. Lemon juice acts as a liver tonic and helps you digest your food by helping your liver produce more bile. It decreases the amount of phlegm produced by your body. It is also thought to help dissolve gallstones.

2.Excellent for Skin Care

Lemon, being a natural antiseptic medicine, can participate to cure problems related to skin. Daily consumption of lemon water can make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin. It acts as an anti-aging remedy and can remove wrinkles and blackheads. Lemon water if applied on the areas of burns can fade the scars. As lemon is a cooling agent, it reduces the burning sensation on the skin.

5.Good for Weight Loss

10.Acts as a blood purifier

The diseases like cholera or malaria can be treated with lemon water as it can act as a blood purifier.

How much should I drink?
In case you are in good health and weigh 70 kg or less, it is advisable for you to have juice of one-half of the lemon squeezed into one glass of water, twice daily. However, if you weigh more than 70 kg, juice of one whole lemon in a glass of water should be preferred. For maximum benefit, this mixture should also be taken two times a day, though you may dilute more lemon juice according to your taste if you wish.

Glad I came across this post! I've never known about all the benefits of lemon. I wonder if it will help with fluid retention? Every summer when it gets hot, I retain fluid in my legs. The doctors are baffled as to why it happens because nothing shows up on the gazillion tests I've gone through. Hmmm, maybe I'll try it for a few days.

Tammy: sometimes I mix it up and add some lemon and lime to my water, plain lime water is good too! Glad I'm not the only one! :)

I love lemon water, that being said, I haven't read all the comments so don't know if this has been said yet or not. But, if you are on medications that cause sun sensitivity or you are naturally sensitive to the sun, you may want to be on the careful side with the lemon water, the lemon can make you more prone to sun burn and sun sensitivity. I myself experienced that. Insulin can make you more sensitive to the sun-I'm a type one diabetic-on insulin is what that means, and I drink a ton of lemon water, just very very minor (like I was sitting in a tinted limo! For about 30 minutes on a March day) and all my face skin peeled off (like it had been sun burned). After that I had to start taking it easy on the lemon water.

Just a few sprinkles. (Probably much less than an 1/8 of tsp. More like a "dash" as mama used to say.) It is really good and refreshing.

Great post! When I'm being good --- I drink lemon water with a little sea salt in the mornings and then ACV with a tsp. of honey at night. I always feel better when I do these. Don't ask why I stop from time to time. I'm just crazy, is my only answer. LOL

Drinking lemon water can be beneficial, but I'd be careful to swish with plain water afterwards, because the acid in lemons can destroy tooth enamel. Hannah, your suggestion for using peels perfectly matches another thread about making cleanser with orange (or lemon) peels. It's here, with a little "recipe" and pictures to give you an idea of how many peels you need. http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=48341

Holly, I put my peels in white vinegar, let it sit over night, and use it to clean windows, floors, etc. Works really good!

I've started keeping a pitcher in my fridge for myself and my DH enjoy at our leisure. I actually prefer it to be closer to room temp, but maybe that's just because it's cooler this time of year. Here's my question. I'd posted this on the farm kitchen page and got a few responses. I wanted to repeat it here. What do you do with all of the peels? For daily intake, that becomes a lot of lemons or zest. Any suggestions?

awesome info... You know was diagnosed with an inflamed stomach a few years ago, but then left hanging with no "treatment" after it didn't turn out to be bacteria (so glad I never filled that antibiotic) so I researched on my own and in addition to temporarily going on a raw food diet to lower the acid in my stomach, I drank lemon juice in my water and it helped so much, I could feel my stomach settling as I drank it. I should really keep this habit up more at home... But I didn't realize it could do all that other stuff too!

Hey ladies,
I have drank lemon water for about 11 yrs...and it really helps with indigestion. But you have to be careful with to much lemon juice on your face...It is a natural alphahydroxy and can burn if not used with water. So if you have used lemons alone on your face and have little blisters...well enough said..to strong and you need to add water.
Thanks
Deborah

I have been trying to regularly drink lemon water and this past week I purchased organic lemons because they were much larger than the regular lemons. Oh, my goodness, the tartness! I thought the regular lemons were pretty good, but the first organic one really puckered my tastebuds. Yay, organic.

Channah, I started drinking lemon water right after you first posted about it and I think it's great! Most times I put a teaspoon of honey in mine. Sometimes if I want something different I shake a little cinnamon in it. Honey and cinnamon both have benificial health aspects. Thanks again for the lemon water suggestion. Dana
