Posted - Jan 22 2008 : 11:56:06 AM Does anyone have a way of pressing the oil/alcohol out of herbs that they want to strain, without wasting a bunch? I've tried sawing a circular hole in a board, which I then place over a stock pot. I put a large funnel in the hole, and put my muslin bag of stuff in the funnel, and press down on it with a plate or bowl. It still doesn't seem to get very dry. Ideas?

Posted - Jan 22 2008 : 12:36:27 PM I have the same trouble, Marqueta. Seems like you can only get so much of the liquid pressed out without resorting to extremely clean, or rubbergloved/ziplok-bag covered hands to do the final squeeeeeezzzzing. For small batches, I use coffee filters instead of muslin, just be cautious not to burst the filter at the bottom and cause the solid matter to fall into the strained liquid, thus starting all over again. I'll have to look into a wine press...hmmmm.
