Does anyone have a way of pressing the oil/alcohol out of herbs that they want to strain, without wasting a bunch? I've tried sawing a circular hole in a board, which I then place over a stock pot. I put a large funnel in the hole, and put my muslin bag of stuff in the funnel, and press down on it with a plate or bowl. It still doesn't seem to get very dry.
Ideas?

A small wine press is on my "to buy" list. Tincture presses are expensive. But you may be able to find a small wine press, even a used one.
My strong husband does the final squeezing.

I have the same trouble, Marqueta. Seems like you can only get so much of the liquid pressed out without resorting to extremely clean, or rubbergloved/ziplok-bag covered hands to do the final squeeeeeezzzzing. For small batches, I use coffee filters instead of muslin, just be cautious not to burst the filter at the bottom and cause the solid matter to fall into the strained liquid, thus starting all over again. I'll have to look into a wine press...hmmmm.

Thanks for the good idea-I never would have thought of a wine press!

Have a blessed day,
