Posted - Sep 30 2007 : 7:52:02 PM Here's what we've come up with so far:
Somewhere here on the main forum, there will be an ongoing, ever-changing list of FARMGIRL SISTERHOOD members. No addresses or anything, just our names and our numbers according to when we sign up. (i.e. For Idaho, I’m Organic Grower No. 8 according to the official state records and every year I have to renew my certification.) Ha, I’ve reserved Farmgirl No. 1 for me!!!
In honor of my mother and what I grew up hearing everyday, I’ll become Sister MaryJane, and/or member No. 1. (If you’ve read my book, you’ll know what the sister thing is all about.) We’ll pay $20 per year to be a member and receive one aproned-hen embroidered badge with some rules concerning its use elsewhere on things like dishtowels, etc. Okay to do but we want to honor her sacred status with a few rules! When a farmgirl’s membership is about to expire, we’ll get a postcard and an e-mail reminding us to renew. (Someone like me will need to buy several extra hens at a lesser charge because I have more than one denim jacket!)
Chapter starter kits will continue to go out the way they go out presently, free-of-charge. Sign-ups for those will stay the same. HOWEVER, each active chapter will soon have their own virtual "henhouse” on our website. This is where it gets more regulated. An appointed chapter leader (must also be a member of the sisterhood) will moderate their chapter’s “site” and be the only person that can update or change the chapter’s bulletin board. (It’ll even look like an old-fashioned chalkboard.) Other features will include an area for PROJECT DISCUSSIONS (like interoffice memos), BOOK DISCUSSIONS, and HOGS & QUICHES (this is for chapter "hugs & kisses," congratulations, condolences, prayers, etc.) There won't be any search function capabilities on the chapter sites. We’d still like chapter members to join in on all the many discussions on our main forum and utilize our existing topics for sharing ideas at large! And if you are a dues-paying sisterhood member, you’ll have a special emblem near your name on the main forum.
Members of a particular chapter will have a password to pitch in, post photos, instructions, tutorials, etc. on their chapter’s site. (But remember, in order to do so, chapter members will also need to be dues-paying sisterhood members in order to have access to their site for posting.) I expect we’ll start seeing a lot more virtual chapters but face-to-face chapters will get a site as well. Virtual chapters will need a theme to organize around, no numbers there. (I’m hoping someone starts a chapter for luring in those of us who fish or snag those who hunt--that kind of thing or maybe even organized around a particular charity.) Members of the public can view these sites, but only members of a chapter (who are also dues-paying sisterhood members) can post.
We’ll be in touch by routing our news through chapter leaders, just like we do now. Chapters will continue to get newsletters on a regular basis, but the leaders will have to distribute them to their chapter members. As you can imagine, this will only work if members send us strong, reliable, organized chapter leaders and everyone keeps up with their dues in order to generate the necessary fuel to fund all of this. (For extra historical inspiration, re-read the section Finding Each Other, in our No Place Like Home magazine issue.)
The badges that only SISTERHOOD MEMBERS can earn will be taken care of in an area on our main site. There will be a gallery of sorts for photos, stories, etc. (I had a couple of out-of-town girlfriend guests here this weekend that are known for their outrageous story telling. After a round of WOW! around the campfire each evening, we eventually got into some hilarious PROVE IT! banter.) Rules for earning badges will be posted along with the lists of the women who have earned them and the date they earned them. Sorry, they can’t be grandfathered in. It’ll be way too much fun for all of us to start over with a clean slate, struttin’ our stuff, hen and cackle style.
And since we farmgirls are made of the right stuff, the list of badges we can earn will be long, everything from engine overhaul to doilie construction. So please be patient while we get this up and running. It’s going to take a minute or two, because soon I’m off to earn my travel badge to GA and KY!

Posted - Aug 15 2008 : 5:07:18 PM Hello everyone, I've been on the computor just soaking up all the fun and wisdom dispensed on this site. It is awsome. I have a question tho- can any of you give me a lead on a cyber chapter to join? I've put out feelers to 7 chapters, some kinda close, some farther away, but then I was thinking maybe a cyber chapter would work. Thanks.

Posted - Jan 18 2008 : 10:41:23 AM Sorry for the mis information. I was just going off the first post from MJ that said each active chapter would have one. I know lots of stuff has gone on since then. Thanks so much for the clarification Brenda! You are so sweet!

Posted - Jan 18 2008 : 10:27:34 AM Just a little correction to what Alee just posted. We are not going to be setting up henhouses for each and every farmgirl chapter. The henhouses need to be requested by the chapter leader before they will be set up. You can send me an email regarding getting a henhouse set up.
The request should come from the person who will be the 'head hencho' (leader) of the henhouse and you must be a sisterhood member. You will also need to provide me with a list of the members to be added to your henhouse. Those members must also be sisterhood members.
There has been some confusion regarding signing into the henhouse forum and not being able to post. Following is the information regarding those questions/comments (I don't mean this to seem like I am yelling, I just wanted it to seem more important than the rest of this post):
ANY ONE CAN GO TO THE HENHOUSE FORUM AND READ POSTS. YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO POST IF YOU HAVE BEEN LINKED AS A MEMBER TO A HENHOUSE. YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO POST IN THE HENHOUSE YOU ARE A MEMBER OF. IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF A HENHOUSE, YOU DO NOT/CANNOT LOG IN ON THE HENHOUSE FORUM OR POST TO ANY OF THE HENHOUSES, YOU HAVE READ ONLY ACCESS WITHOUT LOGGING IN.
If you have any further questions or want to request a henhouse or more information, please email me and I will be more than happy to help you.

Posted - Jan 18 2008 : 08:33:47 AM Hi Joyce!
The henhouses are still in their infancy- they are still really new. I know MaryJane, Carol, Sunny, and Brenda at MaryJanesFarm are working really hard to get each chapter their own henhouse space. They have to work with the tech guys in charge of the henhouse each time to make a new space. Right now only two chapters have henhouses as putting up the framwork and nailing down all the walls takes a bit of doing. Stay tuned for updates!

Posted - Jan 18 2008 : 08:26:20 AM Hey Joyce, First of all welcome to the farmgirls clubhouse, Sister! =) The thing about the password is to do with the Henhouses (Blogs, kind of), you either have to join one of the existing cyber chapters or start your own. Could the Shabby girls have a hen house? That would be cool! You can read what's going on in the cyber chapters here: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/HenHouseSnitz/default.asp And then decide what you want to do. I'm not much help, but I'm glad for another Farm girl who found us, always.
Little blessings every day to you and the "Shabby Girls"

Posted - Oct 10 2007 : 2:43:03 PM patricia, i bridged out of brownies but we moved and i never got back into it. I was thinking maybe i could put all my patches on a sewing bag or my overnighter bag. But I really like the whole apron idea, i would even make a special apron ooo oooo. what if each chapter made there own special aprons and then put patches on it if you didnt have the jean jacket. Well just an idea.

Posted - Oct 10 2007 : 1:21:00 PM I was never a girl scout, though my sister was. I wish I had let my parents enroll me. I guess my mom asked if I wanted to be one, and I decline, though I don't remember doing so! :D Oh well! What do kids know? :D
I don't have a denim jacket either- Maybe this is the time to learn how to make my own jackets! Or perhaps I can find a great value one at GoodWill.
I am so excited to see what will merit a badge!

Posted - Oct 08 2007 : 11:19:35 AM I was a Brownie but never "flew up" to Girl Scout. It just seemed like a lot of work to me. I was lazy even then! Anyway, a Farmgirl Gurl Scout sounds great. I think I'd like badges on Sashes since I don't have a denim jacket. On the other hand, I could get one. Looks like this is going to be a foggy mind day. Do I get a badge for that?

Posted - Oct 07 2007 : 10:03:25 PM This sounds so interesting and definitely a good way to go for those "always in rush" farmgirls. I've never been a member of a "sisterhood" do we do the spit in the hand, pink swear or what? Will we need habits? I have plenty of bad ones I can bring to the table! LOL!
Looking forward to seeing this become a reality!
Hugs & blessings,
Brenda

Posted - Oct 07 2007 : 8:35:36 PM Cheryl,
Sewing the badges on an apron is a way cool idea!!!! I can just see it hanging from a pretty painted wooden hanger all freshly pressed just the way our Girl Scout uniforms would have been.
