It's official! Justin and I are having our first baby, and we're both ecstatic. We went to our first appointment this am, and saw our little bundle of joy (though, he/she was kicking and waiving it's arm, so maybe not so joyous, but DEFINITELY ours ) We are at 13 weeks along, so wish us luck!!!

I'm burning the wee hours of the morning here and when I read Elizabeth's post it made me think of my first baby. I had all the child locks in place on the cupboard doors and the blanks in the outlets that were bare. Susannah never touched them, though I did find her gnawing on a grasshopper when she was five months old She'd eaten about half of it. She slipped in the tub when I was bathing her, she was about a year old and really smacked her face and she was crying like the dickens so I popped her in the car seat and rushed her to the doctor's, which was just around the corner. I told the doctor whe had probably crushed all the bones on one side of her face, but of course by then Susannah was happily cavorting around the office , happy as all get out. Nothing was crushed of course...

When we had our second child, Martin, what a different story, as soon as he could get to the cupboard doors, he would rattle them every day, desperate to see what treasures were behind them. As soon as he could walk his favorite trick was to take the knobs off the dishwasher and hide them....then he decided to entertain himself by putting a towel over his head, running as fast as he could until he crashed into something. He would bark with the dogs, chirp and meow with the kitties, and when I was at my mother's he would moo along with the dairy cows across the road. He was about one then, and I was really worried that he was going to be some strange circus boy, who only spoke in animal tongues, but once he found his voice, he never stopped talking....
Oh they are so much fun when they are little, when you watch them discovering all sorts of things...you and Justin are in for the big time fun, Jonni...

Thank you so much, Audrey! I'm in that second trimester right now, where I don't really FEEL pregnant, and I don't really LOOK it, either...just a little "portly" :) We feel very blessed and heard the heartbeat last week. Sounds like a distant train....we're both very anxious to be parents (anxious in a good way :))...your good wishes are very welcome, so thanks so very much!!

I know the following post is long but I got it in my e-mail and some of the things are so true that it is just too funny. Really, I think all first time parents are so cautious and scared (I know I was!) but after the second and third you soon realize that babies and children are not so breakable! Congratulations!

Nance! How funny!!! Sometimes I don't know what's "going on" if it isn't in Across the Fence!!! I just felt like this would be the most appropriate place to post it, I guess.

Thanks so much for you good wishes--and how true. My mom and I talked all day yesterday while shopping about the very funny (but somewhat scary) things that happened when I was a child (my dad deciding that his prescription cough medicine was good for me, too, at 6...I slept for 3 days straight..) and other little things..Mom said, you'll always make mistakes, but then you'll have days like this where you're still your child's best friend

Thank you so very much, Toni! We feel very blessed, for sure!

Alee, you make me laugh--I too, wasn't really in "love" with babies--in fact, I thought if they could come out as like 4 or 5 year olds, it would be great--cause they talk and interact and it's much more fun :) But, this is something that we both wanted and I'm very glad it's finally happening.

Melanie--go ahead and eat! You're going to need all the strength you can get--me, too

Ok...so I know that you would be happy either way, BUT--all I craved during the first half of my pregnancy with Addison was dairy and pizza...I mean, I could take a whole pie by myself if my hubby and son wasn't there! Maybe a little Violet is in the works...

Thanks, Samantha! I really appreciate the encouragement. I can honestly say that even at 30, we were not ready to be parents--my husband's jobs (managing bars/nightclubs) was never condusive to raising a child and we never even considered it. Now he rarely works nights, and is home most days, so we won't be utilizing day care, either. I feel ready....I think :)

Violet Sophia is a lovely name--truly! I like Addison Sophia, though, as well. Violets are my favorite flower in the first of Spring, and our lower (wilder) yard is full of their lovely little blooms. I've a collection of vintage linens and hankies with violets on them, that, if it's a girl, I'm making her a quilt!!! If it's a boy, we'll have to find some cute lion fabric, I suppose :)

Cravings...well...dairy--lot's of cheese, milk and ice cream and pizza. But only Zamarelli's pizza, two hours north of me, in Grove City, Ohio!!! I almost drove up there last Saturday at Midnight!!! :)

I love this crazy sense of smell that I have, though--it's like a super power!!!

I can't read this thread too much or it will give me baby fever! LOL Once I got over being morning sick I loved being pregnant. It was lots of fun. Labor was amazing, and holding Nora for the first time was so mind blowing! I get blown away just thinking about it right now! Kids are so much fun! I never have been really into babies and toddlers (okay let's face it...I was never into people younger than me...period) but your own kids are so much fun!

Jonni- I know you and Jus will be amazing parents! Don't worry too much about the overload of information. You know in your heart what is right! *hugs*

Jonni~

I haven't been around my computer in a bit and just read your happy news! Congratulations to you and Justin! I am very excited for you two. I am about 20 weeks along with my second, and am really glad that you are not having much sickness. Mine was worse with my first, but even this time I have been feeling yucky alot.

I had to laugh at your "superpower" nose. Isn't it amazing how much more things seem to smell?

Jonni!!!

Congrats girl! My mom had my brother when she was 35, and she said that it was her easiest pregnancy all around. With my sisters and I, she said she didn't feel as mature as she did when she had Jeremiah. I had Patrick when I was 25 and Addy when I was 30, and honestly Addy has been easier on my mind. So, I wouldn't even give a second thought to your age.

And the names!!! I love love LOVE Violet. Violet Sophia was one of 3 options we had, but ended up with Addison Sophia.

Are you craving anything yet???? Wow!!! Pregnancy is soooo much of an adventure! Keep us posted!!

Oh Jonni, you are still plenty young! My sis had Sam when she was 43 & had a C section. Well 2 yrs later she was in full blown menopause. She was reading all these books that would say things like "This is a new journey, your kids are gone & out of the house" & she had a 2 YO running around..YIKES!
KYgurlsrbest Posted - Aug 14 2008 : 06:23:43 AM
I'm glad to hear you say that, Karin--I didn't want to be like my friend, Julie, who had her children at 41 and 43...that's just too late for me, but she'd also suffered a number of sad miscarriages and trials that took her to that age to carry a child to term. The doctor did say they will do more ultrasounds for us than a "younger" pregnancy, but also said that the cases of Downes Syndrome they've seen in their office have been all younger aged women...I'm not worried, though, a gift is a gift.

We told my mother last night--I found a lovely little vintage baby dress from the 1920's or so, with beautiful smocking and embroidery (all ivory) and put a sweet little tag on it that said, "To Gram, I Can't wait to meet you in February, Love, Baby Lynch" and had her open it over dinner, telling her that we got her something in Louisville for watching the dogs...she was floored. It was the best reaction ever, I think!!! My mom has always been so wonderful at giving me "lead", letting me make my own decisions, and being supportive of (most) of what I wanted to accomplish (as long as it's sane)...I know she loves babies, and she's always buying for someone's little one, or her great niece and nephew, but she's never pressured me to have children. So, she was VERY surprised last night when she figured it out, and immediately turned to mush and started planning shopping trips. So, I guess she's on board :)

We talked about how old we'll be with dance lessons or little league...I'm sure we won't be the only ones :)
