Posted - Jan 31 2010 : 07:56:22 AM We also call them sundogs in Minnesota. My son teaches earth science to Middle School age kids, so I asked him a couple of years ago about sundogs, he said in "laymans terms", just for his mother that sunlight mixes or interacts with ice clouds or particles in the air. Guess it's not that important why or how it happens, it sure is pretty.

Posted - Jan 31 2010 : 07:50:39 AM We call them sun dogs too. They are caused by the sun reflecting off ice crystals instead of water drops as in a rainbow. Pretty neat. I am glad you got some pics. I see them here too and have take some neat pictures. MB
