Up in Alaska we called them Sun Dogs. Something The Natives had in there history.

We call them sun dogs too. They are caused by the sun reflecting off ice crystals instead of water drops as in a rainbow. Pretty neat. I am glad you got some pics. I see them here too and have take some neat pictures. MB

They are sundogs here in MN too.

We also call them sundogs in Minnesota. My son teaches earth science to Middle School age kids, so I asked him a couple of years ago about sundogs, he said in "laymans terms", just for his mother that sunlight mixes or interacts with ice clouds or particles in the air. Guess it's not that important why or how it happens, it sure is pretty.

LOL!! I guess they are officially called sun dogs here too!
We have always called them snowbows! Hahahaha!!! We saw a few more after these this morning. Just love seeing them.
