Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 10:43:25 AM Hi there! I am just now introducing myself. I am new to the site, I've been here for about a week just checking stuff out. My mom introduced me to the whole experience. I do live in the city, North Hollywood to be exact. But I have a small little container garden on my little patio that is doing very well. On top of that I sew, cook, crochet, and work full time. I have a degree in costume design which is why I am in Hollywood and feel so out of place here so many times. But I am finding ways to enjoy my stuff. So I just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself. If there is anyone else living in the area or close by I would love to meet you. I don't find too many other people like me in these neck of the woods. Have a great day! Laura Marie |

Posted - Sep 12 2008 : 9:20:04 PM Laura, just type in 'Rose Story Farm', they have a lovely website and wonderful products for sale.
Jenn, so glad you got to experience it for your B-day. I tried to get some of my girlfriends together to go have tea & tour but they felt the $25 was a bit pricey so I never did get to go. Bummer!
Hey Madelynne, welcome aboard.

Posted - Sep 12 2008 : 09:42:22 AM Grace,
I love that rose farm (Rose Story Farms, I believe). DD, sis and I went a few years ago for my bday and had a great time. The walking tour was wonderful and they gave us a little book so we could write down the names of all the rose varieties we liked. Even DD had pages and pages of roses she wanted in our yard. The tea was lovely under a huge tree on the lawn. Very restful. That's where I found my favorite French gardening hat. Now I wanna go back |

Posted - Sep 11 2008 : 10:33:06 PM and besides you are not that far from great farm country...Ventura County! Jenn lives there and I use to, and remember you can just scoot up the 101 or PCH to Santa Barbara as well as Santa Maria,,,infact twixt & tween Carpenteria and Santa Barbara is a lovely Rose Farm(it was featured in Victoria Magazine several years ago) and they do tours & teas..so even if you are a City Girl you are just a stones throw from the country. Hugz & Welcome to MJF.

Posted - Sep 07 2008 : 8:56:17 PM Welcome Laura,
I know what you mean about feeling out of place. So Cal and even more so where you live is not the normal stomping ground for farmgirls. But, this is a great site for anyone who feels those down to earth yearnings.
BTW - check out pathtofreedom.com They are an urban homestead in Pasadena that you fight find inspirational. They do some pretty cool stuff.
Welcome aboard. |

Posted - Sep 04 2008 : 9:44:48 PM Wow! What a warm welcome from everyone. Thank you! To answer some of your questions my container garden right now consist of tomatoes, sugar snap peas, leaf lettuce, radishes, sunflowes (which aren't doing too great), basil, parsley, mint, chamomile, lavendar, rosemary. I've actually only been doing this for about a month or so. I buy a little something everytime I go to the garden store or Target. But right now its doing pretty good. I enjoy it so much. As for some of my design stuff I have my own website going, still in the process of getting more pictures up. lauramariedesign.com Thank you so much! Can't wait to join in in all of the fun! |
