Hi all,
I would dearly love to connect with other Farmgirls in a chapter type arrangement, but live a little too far away!! I read about Catherine's first meeting with great enjoyment - sounds like such fun. What I was wondering is would other farmgirls who live far away or are not near a chapter like to form one? Not sure what we would do instead of meetings - maybe online meetings, snail mail round robin letters and exchanges - any other ideas welcome. If I get some feedback from others then I'll contact MaryJane's Farm to register our chapter. I've got an idea for a name - the 'Far-Flung Farmgirls'. Any other suggestions?
Also, don't know if a chapter like this already exists - I did a search and couldn't find anything. Does anyone else know?
Best wishes and looking forward to hearing from you,
Jayne

Is there room for one more? I live in Arizona and there are no chapters here. Your group sounds like a wonderful mixture of people from all over.

wow,
I sent out a lot of hand spun, hand knit small stockings for the ornament exchange, also sent on the France patches. Someone has a lot of nerve.

I'm busy too - I work outside the farm 60 hours a week plus farmer's market twice a week. It doesn't leave a lot of time for my family, but I managed to spin and knit a lot of single socks for the ornament exchange.

Sorry to see this 'chapter' end, but happy to meet a lot of gals because of it!

bump,
found this post, knew i had seen it. maybe we could all read through and see what the problem was as a way of learning how to have a virtual group for the texas folks that have expressed an interest in that.

I have to agree with you Tina. It seems like there are only a select few that comment on here from time ot time. I started a local chapter and I want to concentrate on that for now. I also agree that the ornament swap went ok. I haven't been participating in alot of swaps lately because I've been so busy trying to get things organized here at home. I am going to have to follow Tina and bow out of this group too. Not much activity on here anyway. I'll see everyone elsewhere on here. Take care!

I'll go ahead and close out the yahoo group then..thanks gals.
Also for me..it's just easier for me to check the different boards here than to try and be part of a virtual chapter.
I think for me personally creating a local chapter and being part of that would be easier on me.
As it stands now...I get involved with quite a few swaps on here as it is..and to try and add something else to the mix would just add to my state of confusion. Plus I maintain a blog and etsy shop and so forth..and have a bit much going on right now.
So..me personally I'd have to bow out.
Thanks for understanding.

Good to see you Nance ! I understand what you are saying-- Jayne has been missing for quite a long time, so I am sure the yahoo thing is something we can delete if nobody goes there. As far as the exchanges go-- I agree with Nance- the traveling journal never made it to me and I wondered if people were waiting to send out patches until they received some to send them-- I had signed up so late that I just figured that everyone had already exchanged and that I was too late and was going to wait for the journal/ornament exchange to get to me. This year's ornament exchange went fine for me- my person and I exchanged (a few days late for the both of us) but it was good.

I know when Jayne started the chapter she wanted to limit the amount of people at some number so we could have a "real" group that got to know each other. Maybe the problem is that we need to have a once a month pinging here- or something more formal like a 1st of the month "faux" meeting where we all check in if we want to keep this an actual group. Otherwise it is just another posting board on this site and not really a group. So my suggestion would be to decide if we want to be a farmgirl chapter or not-- and how many people can join--if we do, then we need to make an official list and people who join would be told what the group "does" for meetings and that if they disappear for, let's say 2 months of our official pinging rule, without telling anybody they are "on hold" then we can replace them with a new member or something. I suppose it is a bit "ruley".

Otherwise I suppose we should create our own local chapters and abandon the "virtual" chapter all together?

I too didn't go to the yahoo site. It was too hard to have two places to check up on for me.

May your stitches never drop and your knitting always be cherished!

Nance in France Posted - Feb 13 2008 : 05:21:49 AM
Greetings, ladies! I decided to chime in, after reading the last few posts here at the Faraway FarmGirl Thread. When this chapter first started up, there seemed to be much enthusiasm and lots of projects including the apron patch, traveling journal, and Christmas ornament exchange. Tina also did a lot of work setting up the yahoo chat forum, too, and deserves a round of applause. Not being very "sewey" I purchased patches in France for everyone who had signed up for the patch exchange. A month or so later Jayne posted a query as a reminder to those participating, and half of the gals posted to drop out, which left me with alot of patches I had not needed to purchase. To date, I have only received a patch from Tina. When the journal was being forwarded, we were to include an ornament also. When I received the journal, there was no ornament included, and the gal said that she had forgotten about that. This is not spoken with a whiney tone, gals, truly, but to point out that maybe we are just too "far" flung from each other to successfully follow through with alot of projects. Not only that, the nitty gritty of daily life rightfully takes priority over "fun" time spent here and elsewhere. Maybe that is why you are not getting alot of response for the recipe exchange. Like Tina said, some of the original members may have come and gone, and as for me, I have no idea who currently IS in this chapter!

As far as the yahoo site, 40 lashes with a wet noodle for me (!), I never got into the habit of going there. Partly because it was very time consuming; and for me, when I need a "farm gal fix" I come to this website, like Tina said, and browse around. I have participated in some fun card exchanges and swaps and remain extremely happy to have found this site where I have met so many neat gals! Maybe we can collectively put on the old thinking cap and come up with some guidelines or ideas of what a (physically) far flung chapter can realistically be. Hugs to all, Nance

I'm still in if there is to be a swap...
I think that most of the gals that initially joined in this are either having life events going on or no longer involved on the forums.
So..we can either send out another "shout out" for anyone interested??..or just have things with a hand full of us.??
We did/do still have a yahoo group that back when we first started out..I actually created it for the group. I have not heard from the gal that initiated this whole idea of having a chapter of sorts for the Faraway Farm gals..in quite a very long time...
So..I think we need to either revive it "if" there is interest.
and If not..I will just shut down the separate yahoo group and we can just participate here where ever we want to...as most of us do anyhow.
I know for myself personally..I don't usually get over here to this thread very often..but participate all over the board and get involved in everything that I can throughout the forums.
That in itself can take up quite a bit of my time.
So..anyhow..let me know what is decided amongst you all.
Tina

Sounds good Tammy- email me your info for mailing and I will add you as #4 to the list so far. We have Tina, Cheryl and myself as well.
I like your blog, by the way. Sounds like fun to get a group of "real" girls together. Hope you got your craft room organized-- mine is currently all over the house- as we are trying to finish off our basement on our own (and it is taking forever!)

Anybody who reads about the exchange and wants to be added just email me knit_by_the_moonlight all your info and I will send out a holler about a start time when we have enough ladies.

I agree Noelle. Maybe try again the first part of March? I'm in for the exchange when you are ready, so keep my name on the recipe list :) I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself and stay warm.

The recipe swap went on the back burner from lack of interest at the time-- I thought I would wait until there were a few more of the far-flung girls checking in to try and set it up again. Sorry I disappeared for a while there! We've had the high-fever variety of flu around here and it has been 20 below zero, so I think I was hibernating for a few weeks. People can holler if they want the recipe exchange back -- but it would be more fun if we had at least 7 people I think. Hope everyone is well!

Sounds like you have been very busy Tina! I've been trying to do a little craft organizing here myself and I have so much stuff that I don't know what to do with it all! I have to go downstairs and re-do my craft room so I can get a grip on all this stuff! lol. I'm looking forward to spring this year too. I want to plant a veggie garden with the little ones and get my backyard together too. Hopefully I can get all this accomplished!
