From Words to Live By:Wit and Wisdom from Rural America

"My husband and I have just started farming and our funds are earmarked for building, repairs, and renovation" says Milaca, Minnesota farm woman Dory Hubert. "When I'm frustrated by having to forgo new furniture or a new car, I regain my perspective by remembering that achieving long-term goals is what truly makes life meaningful. As we work together to make our dream of farming come true, we share the beauty of growing crops and newborn livestock, and we see every day that fulfillment comes not from acquiring belongings but from life itself".

Hotties, our November project will be a simple one. For the month of November I'm going to send in some writings from a book I received recently called "Words to Live By: Wit and Wisdom from Rural America". I thought this would be nice because we are going to be so busy in November with preparations for Thanksgiving.
And,If you have any suggestions for Decembers'project, let me know!

Hello Hotties! I hope you had a good weekend. I am getting ready to take a kitten we have here at our home to the vet to be spayed so we don't have more kittens! We have several cats/kittens around here,my hubby loves them, and we always have any pets we have spayed or neutered. We have one more female to go after this little lady.
Before I go, I wanted to post that our room focus for this final week is the kitchen (my favorite room)! Not only do you want to get the kitchen cleaned up and organized this week but you might want to sit down and start planning out your holiday meals and the foods you'll need to buy for that. I find having a menu and a shopping list helps me to be sure I have everything I need so I don't have to make mad dashes to the grocery store!

Have a great day!

Thanks Rene! Today we had a cool front come through and with it a day of heavy rain. Some of the downtown buildings had water enter them again! Thankfully not any homes, although the field behind my parents home filled up and they were scared for a while. It has stopped raining now, and the water is draining off. Whew!

Hello Hotties! Just dropping in to say hi to ya'll. It's raining here today, so I'm going to do a few things around the house I've needed to get to. Also, we have a reenactment this weekend so I'll be getting my clothes and things together for that. And my sourdough starter needs to be fed again so I guess I'll go do that now (seems like I'm always feeding that thing! ).
Hope you're having a good day today!

Happy Monday morning, Hotties! I hope you had a good weekend! This week our clean-it-up-before-the-holidays focus will be on the bedroom. This would be the bedroom your guests will stay in, or if you won't be having overnight guests, then it can be whichever bedroom in your house needs a little "attention".
Last week we focused on the bathroom so I cleaned out some old makeup and rearranged under the sink. Now there is a spot for my visitors to use, if needed. I also rearranged the towel cabinet and the little shelves over the toilet.I hope to clean and rearrange several things in the bedroom this week.
Have a good day!

caron and all TX. hotties. It would be fun to meet from time to time.
Say, I have a summer Stetson I would like to sell. It's a John Beaver 4X Made in USA and size 7 1/4. I'll put this on the barter site, too.
I'm keeping my winter Stetson. I can't think of a trade item now.

You must know how important it is to be in touch w/ Tx. Leaving wasn't on my list of things to do. We'll be outside San Anton, the last placed I lived in texas.

catscharm, Hi Heather, We'll be outside San Anton on Lake Medina in a cabin called Artisan's Landing. It's in a city called Pipe Creek, Texas. For the last few yrs., we've been pretty much in Hill Country. We get there at the beginning o December.
Nice talking to Texas. Jill Jillsewsit

Hi, And, thanks for replying. The Heart of TX. Girls (I feel like a Texas girl at heart)is the virtual Texas chapter? I lived in Houston, El Paso and San Anton. This winter we are renting on Lake Medina outside San Anton.
I know what floods are; our family lived in New Orlans for 2 years. There was a lot of rain and (car) brake trouble.
Could someone let me know if the Hotties is a virtual group?; where are y'all from?
Regards, Jill jillsewsit

Monica, thank you for asking...they are doing well. They have a crew coming each day who have started on re-installing the insulation and sheetrock. My parents are excited to see the walls coming back together. Next, the bathrooms will be repaired and they possibly can move into one of the bedrooms in the house which will make them very happy!
Things are improving!

Good afternoon, Hotties! Hope you are doing well today. This month is our get-the-house-ready month and this week we need to focus on the bathroom your holiday guests will be using. Will your guests be staying overnight or for several days? Then clear out a drawer and cabinet area for their toiletries. If your guests are day guests, you'll want to put a good cleaning on the bathroom and right before the holiday arrives, be sure it is stocked with tissues, toilet paper and maybe some toothpaste or other items people sometimes forget to pack. You know what your bathroom will need, this week focus on that or at least have a plan for what it will need right before the holiday begins.

I am happy to report tomorrow repair men come to re-install my parents insulation and sheetrock! This is so exciting to begin repairing something instead of tearing it out and throwing it away!

The neighbor next door put much of her furniture (except mattresses, they were thrown away) out in her backyard. Several pieces of her furniture only got wet on the legs with the cloth parts looking like they did not receive damage. She is very afraid of mold, and has allergies, so she has already put new furniture on reserve and doesn't want this furniture. I have asked if my hubby (Hank) and I could have the current furniture. We think we can clean it up and hand it out to those who lost all furniture and have no insurance to replace it. We have it covered over with a tarp for now because rain is coming, and Hank will go this afternoon and put the couch and chairs up on some sort of blocks to get them all off the grass so it won't get wet again. The dining room chairs are covered and on the concrete patio so they are o.k.
Hank will move the wooden headboards and any other wooden things that look savable to under some tarps on the patio as well. I hope she says we can have it.

Have a good day!

What a great idea on the Oct project. I have already started de-cluttering our bedroom. Sorry I have not been around. We are moving animals around and have a new calf. Still need to find homes for 2 male fiber goats though. Decided to stick with just show goats since I am allergic to wool. It's football season and show season so we are going and going. Today I am doing some stuff for DH and as I said our bedroom also going to scrap a page. Blessings to you all! hugs
