Hello Farmgirls!
I was just wondering what everyone's views were on bras?
I am trying to improve my health naturally, and alot of reading leads me to think that maybe wearing a bra all the time isn't so good for women.....
Who always wears a bra?
Who goes without one?
What kind do you wear?

I have been trying to go with out one while I am home...giving my back a rest, letting my adrenals drain, but friends, I tell ya, after nursing 4 babies, I could tuck "the sisters" in my hip pockets!
So, give us your two cents...let's have a bra debate.
Love and light to all

I have a odd shaped chest, so finding a wireless bra is a challenge. I did find one I absolutely love, but of course they only had one in my size.

I ABSOLUTLY, POSITIVLY refuse to wear a bra unless I am sure someone can tell I don't have one on. I have decided that these are torture devices and that if men do not have to wear them why do I Did you know the bra was originally designed by a man ( which explains a lot ).

The real problem for me is that I have fibromyalgia and there are days were a bra can cause horrible pain. Since I work in the corporate world ( get it "corporate farmgirl") I have become VERY creative to avoid wearing a real bra. Tank Tops with built in bras, loose layering, and going around asking my husband and daughters "Can you tell if I have a bra on or not" is the routine around here. So I think we need to go back to burning the darn things

This is a sad, sad thing....I bought some bras a while ago at Big Lots..they were a great deal, I just browsed the rack and picked out two in the right size and bought 'em. I didn't realize until just few days ago that one of them is a "Delta Burke Original" It's gotta make a girl feel great to have a big ol' bra made by the fat Designing Woman!

I had a serious talk with my physician about bras. About the supposed link to cancer (though I can't think of any women in my family that ever had breast cancer and they all wore bras.) He said that they were safe and so I'll go with that.
That being said, I hate the darn things! I feel I need to wear one in public as I am assymetrical, but at home I rarely wear one. One of the downsides to that are skin tags that develop where the breasts rub on my body. YUK!
The bras I do buy are an underwire (underwires seem to even out my shape) that I buy at a local Fashion Bug store. They are a firm knit, seamless bra, and for a bra, they are comfortable enough, though expensive.
If I do appear in public braless it is with a loose fitting sweater and I wear one of those ribbed tank tops underneath. This is the most comfortable for me.
Trust me, those of you who have nursed babies, know that those of us who have not have the same "gravitational" issues as well! Those girls have gone south!

I don't have time to read through all the posts - at the library - but I was wondering if any of you have tried the Brassage Bra's from Gaiam? They have built in bumps that are supposed to help massage your lymph sysytym? I've considered buying one.

As far as I go I know no bra can be more comfy but even my sizeB/C sag after nursing 4 (wish it didn't take radical surgery to put em back where they belong!) and it isn't always comfy to go braless - especially on hot days.

I hate wearing one. I never do at home but always do in public. I feel uncomfortable if I don't. It is VERY noticable if I am not wearing one.

I am sorry to hear about your health problems, Annika- but good for you for putting comfort before "fashion"! I personally hate anything that makes me uncomfortable!

I've gone bra-less most of my life, but since hitting my mid 40s and having my darned thyroid fail, I look like a couple of old feed bags. I don't wear one when I'm at home, or any other time I can get away with it, due to GERD and heartburns. If I do wear one, it is all cotton with wide straps and front hooked if I can find it. No underwires.I detest discomfort more then saggy boobs :P

When I'm out and at work, I always wear a bra. As soon as I get home, off it goes! I can go without a bra for days at home....very comfortable. I did buy a couple of bras at Victoria's Secret that (even though underwire) it felt good right off the bat. The straps are thicker, so it feels better on my shoulders. I forget the name of the bra, but it came out about a year ago.

Yep. One word--gravity. I saw what my great aunt looked like after years of not wearing one and it was not good, and that is putting it very mildly. Of course, your mileage may vary. I vote for the most comfortable bras possible. I found a curvation one that I like but I think it was discontinued. It is exceedingly comfortable. No underwires for me!!! Although the idea of a custom fitting sounds good...although to hear it from you guys apparently even they are overrated. Thanks!

I'm one of those "bra-slaves", lol Bali is my choice of restraint device and it's underwire to boot. I like this model bali because it has solid straps not those elastic slinky ones that keep you bouncing long after you have stopped running, lol.
And when it's that time of month(read here, sore boobs), some days, it's a 24/7 bra marathon. I'm a 34c/d, which equates to a nice set of "Beaver Tails"

The fabulous push-up bras of my long-spent youth now only make me look like the front end of a Boeing 747. Well, the front ends of TWO Boeing 747s. I much prefer the snug sports bras that fasten in front with several little hooks. Clothes hang nicer over that. They stretch out quickly, though.

That is great! It really feels wonderful to not have something feeling like a boa constrictor around your chest and breasts! I always hated having that feeling and then the slipping straps! Ugh!

You are going to love this...my Mom walked in today and I asked her again can you tell? She no not at all. And I said, well I see you are still wearing yours. She said I am? I started laughing and said good for you....She is a full C, and I couldn't even tell. She is doing the same thing, wearing a cami. Isn't this great?

Well I went a total 24 hours without a bra and that included working at the nursery...When my mom walked in, and did a twirl or two and said do you notice anything (because if she did I was going to run home and get my bra) and she said you lost a little weight. I said no, I stopped wearing my bra. Can you tell. She said you did that's great and no I can't tell. I am a DDD. There is no hiding my chest. And I wouldn't call them perky. What I found is if I wear my cami and tuck it in to my pants, it keep things from flopping all over the place. I can't beleive how much better I feel. More times than not yeasterday I forgot I wasn't wearing one, because I just felt so much better. Everytime I walked by a mirror last night I would take a second look, just to make sure I didn't look terrible, but I just can't tell. It must be the cami...

Here's to our health.

I wear one all day long, and take it off at around 8:00 at night, when we're sitting around. I really like the bras that I wear though, they're made by Wacoal, and though expensive, they're simple and structured and WAY comfortable. They have a front closure and a racer back, so I can keep the straps up. I buy two every year, usually the same style, and I don't need anything else!

I'm a little "chesty" (36 C) and though they're perky, I'm not a fan of them swingin' around. I also don't like the feeling of fabric rubbing against my skin after a time, either.

I'm not too big, 36B, but have nursed two children. I can not stand underwire so don't wear those but I do wear a bra during the day. I never wear one at night (except the first few weeks after having a baby I have to in order to keep those nursing pads in place). I don't think that I could go out in public without one because I'd feel like I was flopping around all over the place or what if I got cold?! lol

I only wear a bra if I go out and only if I am getting out of the car. I can't stand wearing them and like many of you it is one of the first things I take off as soon as I can!!
Leezard Posted - Aug 21 2007 : 07:11:22 AM
I generally wear a bra except at night and occasional times when I'm home at home. I do, however, try not to wear underwire bras as I've heard there could be a connection with that and certain breast issues, cancer and the like. I guess the idea is that our bodies are like one big circuit and it doesn't make sense to wear metal in the area of our body that tends to sweat the most.

I am a 70s chick and we never wore bras in high school!!! I hate them!! But my daughters would be mortified if I went out in public without one!! They would own stock in Victoria Secret if they could!!! Besides, I guess after breastfeeding 4 kids and gravity they are not quite as cute and perky as they once were!!! LOL!!!

I'm With the last two. I have worn a bra since I was 11 and that was many moons ago and the girls have been taken good care of and are still up there. They are very large and it would hurt without a bra. Just wear one that fits and be good to yourself. MB

I must just be freak, but I honestly am more comfortable with bra than without. I wear cotton sports bras. They don't feel tight or uncomfortable at all. Do you think I would notice if it was cutting off circulation? Does the article say?
