In an attempt to get back to a healthy weight and feel good about myself. I've started the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD. Wondering if anyone else has subjected themselves to this torture? I'm on Level 1 - Day 2. I think Jillian is trying to kill me. I haven't even broke out the hand weights yet! The workout is only 20 minutes long but it's a killer!

Now to get a healthy meal plan in place. Something that is family friendly.

Anyone want to be my buddy?

Good job!

I've been doing the EA Sports Active on my Wii along with a walking/jogging routine about 3-4 times a week. I too want to go into the new year in better shape. I've lost a few inches & almost 8 lbs. now. I'm moving to an indoor walking track tomorrow. Hoping to incorporate more jogging in my routine.

I've been moving the family into a more of a Clean Eating way of life. We're all getting healthy!

How is everyone else doing?

Hey Ladies,
I am back at the shred once again. So far I have made it about a week and am feeling stronger and more energetic. I am sleeping somewhat better as well. Going in to the new year in better physical shape. How are all of you doing?

Deb,
Good for you. I have used Leslie Sansone also, good walking work out. And a great thing to do. I did the shred one day this week. I would be better off to just do something. Really need to keep the circulation and flexability going. But getting into a routine just like getting dressed, will keep you active and finding it is a must. You are definitely on the right track.
Again, you go girl, you are getting there. And for the six pound loss, woo hoo.

It's now Oct. 3rd. I've been drinking green smoothies for breakfast (about a quart) which sometimes takes the place of my lunch. (Since 9/10) I've been walking every day for 30 minutes for about 2 weeks now. Tossing in some jogging. I'd love to work up to all jogging if I can - some day. I haven't gone back to the 30 day shred video. Maybe when the weather really changes.

I've lost 6 lbs so far. I am trying to make the exercise part of my routine. That is really the key for me. I drop the girls off at school - bring my Ipod, then head for my walk from there. Or I come home and immediately put in my DVD (yesterday was Leslie Sansone and I forced myself to do it.)

I'm feeling good. More energy, sleeping better and no cravings for "that time of the month" - so far.

Deb, do not be embarrassed. It is great that you are doing anything. Just keep moving.
Well, I fell off the wagon some time back. Each week I get maybe one work out in. Day before yesterday I did the shred, and was in so much pain I could not sleep that night, or last night. I have osteoperosis and I really must excercise on a regular basis, but even that is not forcing me to do it. And I know I am going to regret it. So, I am still trying, and today I will work out. I need to do the weight baring excercises at least. If I would stop stopping and starting I would not have to go through the pain every time.
SOOOOO, away I go again, to make it one more day through a workout routine. I need to stay in shape also for farming. Picking, planting, etc. It is alot easier to bend over and pick, when I work out regularly. So, come ladies, lets get going....

I'm sticking my head back in here.... I haven't been doing the Shred - I'm embarrassed. Cherry posted that I started the thread in July, I too could have had some great results if I had been at it every day. I have been active though. Bike riding, hiking, construction on the house - but I need to make exercising part of my routine. Just a normal part of my day that I don't slough off on. "Oh, but I need to do X now - I'll work out later."

I have been making changes in our diets here at home. Changing over to whole grains and upping the veggies even more. We have a Vitamix that I'm really excited about. It's Sept. 10th - I'm going to do my Wii fit after the kids leave for school. (I hurt my leg on a bike ride Sunday that I'm baby'ing.)

Way to go you Shredders!

Wow. Just finished Shred and boy am I outta shape! Ha! I had the same thought, Kelly, about September. I realized that Deb started this thread on July 4th. That's two months that have flown by and I could already have been down at LEAST 10 pounds or more! UGH! It only takes that first step. That first choice. Again, UGH! I'm depressing myself even thinking that I have procrastinated for TWO FREAKIN' MONTHS!!! Oh well, now that I'm all hot and sweaty, I may as well get on the treadmill. Jillian Michaels is gonna be on this morning show on right now, so I'll watch her for some extra motivation while I tread it out! Happy sweating to all of you!

I did the video last night & boy do I feel it already! I decided to start today since Sept. has 30 days. Now I just have to make sure I dont miss a day. Definitely glad I started though as the scale has crept up a little. Would be great if I could get 20 lbs. off this month. Feels good to have one day under my belt. I know by the end of the 30 days this will be easier.

Finally got the dvd! Next step is taking it out of the box & putting it in the dvd player. Ready to start this & think my DD is going to do it w/me.

Also..did you notice in the dvd there is a free month on Jillian's website. You get to see her other fitness, diet, & nutrition info. As long as I dont have to put in a credit card, I'm going to do it.

Oh, Deb, no need to apologize. I've been absolutely horrible at being a good work-out buddy and at just working-out! I did buy Shred, but haven't even put it in the DVD player yet! I have lost 8 lbs though! Ha! Only because I was sick for the whole week last week and my throat hurt too much to eat! And once I get into a habit of not eating, it takes me awhile to get my full appetite back. My eating problem is not eating anything until lunchtime or later and then eating one (or two) snacks after dinner. But in my experience from those wonderful gym-days, the more I worked-out and the more I sweated, the more I wanted to eat healthier. It was partly a mental thing because I couldn't bear the thought of undoing all that work, but I think my body actually craved healthier foods, too. And I'm gonna try the B complex vitamin, too. Thanks for that info, Alee!

I have a broth-based soup recipe I'll try to find that can be made up and stored in the fridge for a week. Eating a bowl before your meal is supposed to help you eat less and it's chock-full of all kinds of healthy stuff.

We can do this, girls! We are farmgirls! Sheri has the right attitude and perfect wisdom; each day IS a new day! We have to remember that it's one choice at a time. And if we make a bad choice, we'll soon have opportunity to make a good one!

I too have fallen off the wagon. With all the camping we've been doing I haven't pulled out the DVD's when we are home. Girls start back to school next week. I need to set a schedule for myself as well.

I haven't tried Turbo Jam - is it any good?

I need something for energy as well. I may have to give the sublingual a whirl. I get up at 4:15 but by mid afternoon I'm dragging.

Sorry I've been a horrible cheerleader here.

Sheri- if you are falling short on energy get a good B Complex vitamin, but if the smell and taste get to you, get a sublingual B12 vitamin. They use cherry juice to sweeten it and it is like taking candy!! And it really helps my energy level.

Okay Ladies,
I have fallen off the wagon for almost two weeks now. With grandchildren baking and picking for the Farmers Market and doing fun stuff, I have had no time. Well, ok, no extra energy in my mind anyway, to work out. School starts in another week, and I plan to get going again, at that time. There is always hope.

Well Ladies, I made it. I got er done. One more day I made myself work out. 20 minutes, that is all, I just keep telling myself that, and I am getting stronger. I really need this for my insides as well as my outsides.
Kelly, dont get discouraged because you can do this. Think about how much time you spend doing other things that take alot longer than 20 minutes. Maybe if you do this on a regular basis, you will not feel the need to eat the things that are bad for you. Because it is a hard workout, even for a short time. But it sure beats spending an hour doing something else. Your done, and can get on with your time doing something else. It really does get easier, and I would encourage anyone just starting this workout, to go slowly through the first couple of times, and just do lite movements, dont try to go as fast as the other ladies on the video. Work up to it, and you will ease into it.

Me too... just have been walking my 30 minutes at work. Gotta get back on track! Haven't been watching the food too much either, but that has stayed pretty steady. IDK what I need to do to really motivate myself to not skip a day or to just say no to treats or eating something I shouldnt. Its so easy to put it on & such hard work to get it off!

Okay,
I am bombing pretty bad. I have not excercised since last week. So many other things to do that I keep putting it off. Not good! I am going to try today, and at least try to go through the motions. Anyone else struggling?

Cherry! The boxing! Uggh! I can only do the beginner boxing. I tried the advanced and almost died. Then when it told me "you didn't even break a sweat did you?' Acck! I guess I'm not coordinated enough - yet. With practice.

I too hope to lose about 30 lbs. I'm going to gauge it on how I feel and the jiggle factor. I don't want to jiggle anymore!

Cherry,
Good for you. I hear you to on the smaller size you would like to achieve. This is why the 30 day shred came to me. I had gained weight in the winter, and knew my Spring and Summer clothes were not going to work for me this year. I did not want to have to buy bigger clothes. So my youngest daughter suggested the shred. I have stayed the same size for about 6 years and needed to get back there. Thanks to the 30 day shred I did. And I feel so much better when I stay with it. It gets to be more and more of a chore as I get older. But as my husband and I keep discussing, we must get a handle on our weight and our strength while we still can. You can do this, we all can. One day, one hour one minute one second at a time. And literally it comes down to that. But so achievable. Maybe we need to make this thread, an accountable thread. Fessing up when we fall off the routine. Once you fall off, get right back on, and you are back in the game again. No need to be guilt ridden or feel like whats the use, just get going again. We are all in the same boat, so grab an oar and lets get rowing. LOL

Thanks, Sheri, for the first-hand knowledge! I went out yesterday and found Shred, finally, at Academy Sports. It was their last copy, so it must be popular. So, I'm all set and will get to it later today. (Ha!)

Kelly, I would love to have Jillian on my shoulder! That's just the kind of discipline I really need. Though I'd probably end up thumping her across the room!

Lisa, I haven't tried the P90X either. Is it similar to the Wii? Just the "come with" games on the Wii will give you a work-out! Have any of you done the boxing? OMG! I was sore for days after playing it for just about half an hour!

But, girls, I am wanting to lose about 30 lbs. I like to gauge my size by my Old Navy jeans. (They're the only one's that are long enough for me at 5'8 and they STRETCH!) Right now I'm comfortable in my 12's, but I want to get back down to being comfortable in my 8's. That's the size I was when the hubs and I got back together after our divorce and let me tell you, I felt some more satisfaction when he and I went shopping on our let's-see-if-we-really-want-to-make-this-work week-end get-away and I kept having to send him back repeatedly to get smaller and smaller sizes when I was trying on clothes!!! The compliments and wonderment over my hard earned new body flew around all week-end long!

So, there it is. I've put it out there. That's my goal.

Hi Lisa. I havent tried the P90X. My DH & I were going to buy that one but the cost is holding us back right now. Although I have seen it on craigslist for pretty reasonable. You do get a lot of videos. My DH was real impressed with the program & he is the type that likes to work out. I have heard its very intense. My muscles for sure would be confused wondering why I am doing this to them!

Thanks Sheri! I haven't been doing the 30 day lately. I've been camping and now this week I'm working at the day camp with the kiddo's all week. Hiking all day - the last thing on my mind is doing a killer 20 minute workout!

I plan on getting back to it on Monday. I haven't tried the P90X - I do switch off with the Wii Fit and now have added bike riding to my plan.

Has anyone tried the P90X workout?..it is based on muscle confusion to get results, although it doesn't take much to confuse my muscles anymore.!

Thanks Sheri for letting us know how this helped you. I read some reviews people gave it on the amazon link above & all of them were good. Can't wait to get this. I've been faultering on my eating & though I walk every day at least 30 minutes, I need to get more serious & strict w/myself. Jillian's definitely no nonsense. Would be great if she could sit on your shoulder & tell you... "dont you dare eat that or you will pay". I dont really like her approach on the show, but her methods have worked for so many. Her team has always won. 20 minutes like you said is something I can handle!
