Hello Farmgirl Sisters,

I recently have embarked on blogging and have a blog www.canvascabinliving.com and would love feedback from anyone else who has been blogging a while.

Ive just recently decided to treat it more like journaling and entering something every day. Instead of trying to think up topics per say im going to post a picture and entry every day (hopefully). The picture is to help me to get on and write something every day. Currently I have been pretty hit or miss with the blog. I believe I might have been over thinking it trying to set it up like a book read.

My format is pretty basic and didnt know if there are any other sites besides the one I am using that might allow more creative formats.

Thanks everyone for your input I love that I have some place to go with kindred spirits and such supportive people.

It is great to hear from you and I LOVE your blog. Definately think its important to connect to others who are like minded and living the same way we are. Its amamzing how many people we talk to in person say, "your doing what?" makes us feel kinda of alone. Thank you for asking me I would love too though I am definately a newby at blogging and very very sporadic. May I ask how you do your blogging from home? Ive yet to figure a cost efficient way to do so we dont have any electricity yet and no good cell service. Have thought about getting service through a cell phone company but waaaay expensive. Have an awesome day did add you to my readings on blogspot which I just switched to and am learning to use. Kat

Wow its been a while since I have been back on here and am so happy that though I was away so many people got so much information thats awesome. I will definately check the links out you shared on here for sure. What im trying to figure out now is how to connect my old, and definately neglected blog on wordpress with my website. I loved my blog then this being the first year out at our property and a HUGE garden and farmers market guess what got forgotten. I promise everyone I will work at getting everything up to speed as there is sooo much to share. Thanks again for all the help and support what an awesome group of people on here.

Yeah blogger automatically has it as well, I check it in my controls sometimes. I do get a lot of readers, a lot of people I don't know. lol But, I was just saying even when I think no one is reading, I like to re-read it myself. I've had mine for almost 10 years now, and wow things have moved on! lol However, I didn't keep track of it for a few years of those 10 and feel bad about it, cause now I don't have those "days". lol I used to have others that weren't from blogger, but over the last oh 15 years (I've had a blog for 10 years, and a website for 5 years before that) the counters, and stat companies come and go and I got tired of having to go from one place to another when which ever one I was using went out of business.

Here's what blogger said for my stats-
Pageviews today
5
Pageviews yesterday
42
Pageviews last month
899
Pageviews all time history
3,377

Also this week, these are where my viewers live-

United States
163
Germany
3
China
2
Hong Kong
2
Netherlands
1
Russia
1
Singapore
1

And just as a btw, I do the bare bones of things to get readers, I wonder how many I would get if I actually tried, and hadn't disappeared for that 3 years that I didn't keep track of it and probably lost a lot of my followers during that time! lol haha

Heather, I love to go back occasionally, and see where I was before, and I'm blown away sometimes by how far I, myself, and my family have come. A journal is exactly what my blog is. Recording how life, changes, and UPS & downs pave our roads. I thought no one was reading. Didn't care, but thought I was just sending my story to outter space....I got about two commenters, thought "oh, ok". When I started my first blog my friend installed a hit counter(years ago). I use a few stat counters now, and though I only have 7 public followers, I get over 100 hits a day, with a lot of return visits from the same ip addresses. I have regular visitors from Russia and the Philippines?! It may feel like your blog isn't being read, but you'd be surprised by how many random people stop by. The best free one I've found is.. "StatCounter" but I also use "Sitemeter", "BlogPatrol" and Google Analytics.
Set up an account, add your project (your blog), and wait a week. Go back and see all the activity your blog gets, if you're curious.

Sometimes it does feel like that, but I still like to read back years of my life it really helped me see how far I have come, and I like that it's paper free and I can easily add digital pics to my posts, it's kind of like a scrap book journal of my life, that is totally free to make and completely "green"!

This thread and all of you ladies has given me the inspiration to start a blog! I have enjoyed visiting all of yours and have gained some useful info! One thing that helped me was to read Pioneer Woman's blogging tips. Please take a gander at my new blog! Any feedback would REALLY be appreciated! Thanks!!

Great blogging tips here gals! I too love the Homestead Revival community and the Barn Hop on Monday's there. I also have a fun blog hop that has been running for 6 weeks called the Farmgirl Friday and Farm Friend Friday blog hop! I've posted it on the forum a few times. I co-host with another blogger, Amy of Verde Farm...So far we are averaging between 75 and 95 entries per week! It's been great fun to see all the farms and homesteads waking up for spring! Best of all, meeting new like minded blogging friends. All great folks and friendly, just like here!

I haven't found that with my site, however, I use a player that can be shut off. I don't like midi's that are on and on and you can't pause, or stop though. I have found I like certain sites with music, it depends on the site and how it is done. I put on a player on mine that I actually got the idea from Sugar Pie Farmhouse (which has a TON of traffic) but I liked that you could pause hers, and hers also had site appropriate music, so I liked it and put the same kind of player on mine.

Oh I don't do it every day for sure! Sometimes I do but never regularly. I think it's best to shoot for at least once a week. If you join a blog group, that assigns a day of the week to blog, I find it keeps me more on my toes to try to at least blog that day. Especially one that has a agenda to blog about weekly, like the Simple Woman's day book, I don't have to think about what interesting thing happened to me that day, just answer the questions each week! lol haha Then I fill in other days here and there when I can with the interesting daily stuff in my life.

I've had a blog for a couple of years now and though I think sometimes that I will blog every day, that just doesn't happen. As of now, it has been a few weeks. It seems to be sporadic for me. The only time I blogged every day was when I did a solo motorcycle trip around the country. What does help me to blog a bit more is having a camera that is small and easy to carry around and one of the small netbooks that will even fit in my motorcycle tank bag.
Here is my blog:

http://talesofamagpie.typepad.com

It is fun though and I like to think of it like a journal and a way for the people that visit my website or have taken classes from me to get to know me a bit.

The two main ways I get my blog noticed is Twitter and commenting on other people's blogs. Occasionally I post it on facebook. There are tons of blogging networks around, too. One is called SITS.

welcome, that's how I get most my readers. if there's any interesting blog groups you can join them too, and they link you up, like I joined the simple woman's day journal group, but there is a lot of recipe exchange ones and such and they put your link on the main page and lot of people will visit you that way too. They are usually once a week postings and the group tells you the kind of post they would like on that day, for example my simple woman's day journal group is supposed to be on Tuesdays and it has several questions that it wants you to answer each week (the same questions each week, but as the weeks go by you will have different answers) but some women choose to do it on other days. I think some of the other blog groups may be a bit more strict on the day of the week thing if their group is supposed to post on a certain day.

Email it to all your friends and family, have it networked to your facebook so it automatically goes to your facebook when ever you post, I use a yahoogroup, but there's a new widget on blogger to make it automatically email any one who subscribes when ever you make a new post, and then go to blogfrog and join them too, go and visit all the blogs on blog frog communitees, usually if you leave a message about their blogs they come and visit yours later. I like the homestead revival community there the best right now. There's lots of MJF farm girls on that community right now too!
