Posted - Sep 04 2010 : 3:49:22 PM JoAnn....a Starbucks!!*%^+! Well, you should have one...after all Colville is the county seat. Perfectly understand about how the weather can differ all over. Some friends were surprised that my squash leaves had frozen. Good thing I had enuf coverings for the cukes, maters, peppers & zukes. Wow!

Posted - Sep 04 2010 : 12:53:16 PM I live southwest of Colville about 8 miles from Colville. We are at about 2400 feet so we are a little colder than Colville. During the winter it's quite interesting to go to town. Could be snowing here, freezing rain half way down and raining in Colville. We moved from Mn so the winters are balmy compared to there. What I really have enjoyed are the summers and lack of humidity. Haven't been to that coffee place yet but did you know we now have a Starbuck's in the Safeway store.JoAnn |

Posted - Sep 04 2010 : 12:29:03 PM Ha Ha! I just gritted my teeth!! ;0) I know there are micro climates all over and my Dad used to tease me when my husband & I moved here by telling me we had moved to a snow belt. Colville is in a valley and I know that Kettle, being on the Columbia is warmer. To say all that, I really don't know, but I am friends with Jason Kadah (former KREM meteorologist) & I shall ask him. Then we both will know. Where do you live around Colville? I used to have family around Kettle Falls and my folks had a farm north of Chewelah. I hope you enjoy Colville. Have been into the "Talkin' Coffee" to get latte's when we drive though. Would love to see the new hospital, as I am a retired RN. Maybe in the future. Have a great weekend.

Posted - Sep 04 2010 : 12:13:26 PM Claudia, I live outside of Colville and am fairly new to this area and always wondered why does Deer Park get colder temperatures than up here? Stay warm! JoAnn |

Posted - Sep 04 2010 : 10:20:53 AM I just noticed that in the regional hills, the bushes are turning color since we have had some weather in the 20's.

Posted - Mar 11 2010 : 05:43:05 AM Grass is getting green and I saw some daffodils in bloom yesterday. Yay for spring, my favorite season. This makes me want to drag the travel trailer to a park somewhere and sit around a campfire.

Posted - Mar 09 2010 : 10:29:15 AM Spring has sprung here in south Texas. It is 73, muggy, and stormy.
I have my garden started. I planted herbs, flowers, lettuce, cucumbers, and started my tomatoes outside.
It is weird to be planting already. I moved here to Texas this past July. Spring usually didn't get to Ohio until May.
Have a wonderful day. |

Posted - Mar 09 2010 : 07:51:11 AM It's the little things in life that make it worth while, like snowdrops blooming and even the smell of skunks.
I've got to share a tidbit with you. Years ago and in the middle of the night, I awoke to the smell of skunk, now being the kind of sharin gal that I am, I poked hubby and said "can you smell that skunk? In a less than cheerful reply he said, " well not until you woke me up".

Posted - Mar 07 2010 : 5:54:42 PM I saw a dead skunk in the middle of the road today. It wasn't pretty but is a sure sign of spring around here.

My best friend just sent this to me. It SO PERFECTLY sums up the kind of day we are having on the Palouse!

Posted - Mar 05 2010 : 07:03:19 AM I'm off to harvest nettles with a couple of my apprentices today. They'll (the nettles, not the gals!) will go right into the dehydrator. They dug up dandelion roots for 2 days while I made soap. We're about to plant the herb garden as buds are breaking all over! We tasted wild plum leaves on Tuesday along with wild mustard, saxifrage, licorice fern, fresh nettles, wild lettuce...the list goes on. In the Pacific Northwest, spring comes early, but this year.....it's come even earlier! No complaints here!

Posted - Mar 05 2010 : 05:38:34 AM I am doing the happy dance! The snow is melting away (slowly, no chance of flooding) and the birds are singing in the bare trees. I can hear them right now as I write this. It is going to get into the forties today and fifties next week...spring is springing! Yay!!!

Posted - Mar 05 2010 : 05:27:27 AM Its so nice to come here and read all the beautiful signs of spring. I heard the happiest bird chirping away this morning when I let the dogs out. It has been warming up here, daytime highs in the 40s (which in MN means no coat!!) but we are supposed to get ice and snow this weekend again. Grr! Oh well, the boys are enjoying all the muddy slushy mess that's left as the seasons decide what they are finally going to do.

Posted - Mar 03 2010 : 7:25:46 PM The sun was finally shining today, the weather man says it could be near 60 this weekend. I know that is only an educatucated guess but I so hope he is right. I have the "dig in the garden" itch sooo bad. Spring can not come any too soon for me. I did see soft new buds beginning to swell on the Oakleaf hydrangea today. |

Posted - Mar 03 2010 : 06:01:46 AM My big pink tulips are a couple of inches out of the ground already. The robins are going crazy out there singing their little heart's out. And this morning I smelled skunk on the breeze! WOO-HOOO! Spring! ...Of course we still could get a bunch of snow, but I'm crossing my fingers
