Hey, this is Beverly writing----farmgirl at heart getting ready to go back and retire with my honey of 30 years. I sure will miss the states; but the pace of India is to our liking.
We will be living in New Delhi---the capitol
in which we will be exposed to people from all around the world...so it is very very interesting.
We have lived here before, therefore I know what is in store for us.
I love to go see the different free concerts from the different embassies, LOVE to go shopping for material, will love to try to garden.
Its not all rosey though......living in a huge home sharing with brother in law, mother in law can be challenging.
Then there's having servants do everything for you.....no that's not me at all...I prefer to do things myself, really. But I am not one to make waves---when in Rome---
I love to work....its kind of ingrained in me----I won't be working overseas.
But I will be staying busy---volunteering at the American Embassy's women's library, and some other good cause for children. And I am buying a new sewing machine over there; intend to stay busy with crafts...all kinds of crafts.
Just thought I would share my new adventure.....but I really really love being a farm girl at heart.

Beverley my friend Manas is over there now, like I had mentioned, get this....he took a pic in front of the Taj Hotel the day BEFORE the bombings....He's anxious about getting home and having to go to Bombay/Mumbai to fly out. I would be too. He also mentioned he got me hair oil and bangles :) hehe He is from Pune and grew up there. He went to a Jesuits school near there for his education.

Answer to your questions.....we have internet---I am adjusting to its slowness. I am over here permanently....but still keeping the house in the states. I can go back anytime---but won't for awhile.
Having servants do your work when you are a workaholic yourself---I don't know....its not that great. But truthfully, I would never get it all done over here.
2 years ago I was here for a huge wedding. On Thanksgiving I prepared the most perfect meal I have ever ever served.....I did it all myselfEXCEPT cleaning the turkey....when I went to clean the turkey the organs were still warm...indeed it was freshly killed. I couldn't get myself to clean it. This year I just am not sure I want to bother.....it was a lot of work. Everyonr was impressed with the meal but could not grasp the idea of so much planning. Ha.

Beverly - I wish you great times in India. And the nice thing about the internet, is you can still keep up with everything here at MJF. I hope you will have internet?

Well gal friends, I am getting settled nicely in New Delhi. Today I went to a tailor and have ordered a few salvar chameezes for myself...What fun. I started looking at materials and trims for the gals doing a swap with me....I can't tell you how much fun thats going to be...really.
Winter is coming soon---its cool at night and in the early a.m.low 80's in the day. A bit of pollution in the air early a.m. and later in the day. All of INDIA AND THE WORLD STOOD STILL the day of the election.....that was so well covered on t.v. you can't even imagine.I am having a lot of fun having a carpenter make different things for us....including a massage table. Its very stress free over here but I am a firm believer in spoiling the husband.

Will end for now. Beverly Gill

Beverly,

How interesting. I would have gone with the more simple things, too. Although a few gems aren't too bad.

First, before I start my story of old----let me say as my husband and I were driving the back roads of Sudbury, Massachusetts and seeing the serenity, beauty and simplicity of the farm areas-----I just was so touched----you country gals are so very very blessed. Nothing like a piece of land with trees, animals and a beautiful sky above. What more could one want? And believe me, I know being a farmer is a lot lot lot of work and sweat---but I can't imagine getting a bigger wow out of life.

On to something way way different...2 years ago my husband's nephew got married; my daughter and I went to India a month before and were taken to 2 shops to pick out materials for about 6 outfits. Well it was so unreal and a bit overwelming----but fun.
You go into these shops and you see bolts and bolts and more bolts of jeweled material.
The men show you as you sit all the material you want......Robin is not into shopping----the first material she saw she chose....she just wanted to get it over.
We stayed shopping about 3 hours---she ended up picking out for all her outfits.ME?

I picked out 1---and went to shops that sold nice but unjeweled material but nice. I am a lot more simple then she and a lot older.

BTW, her first outfit was a bright orange with red gems on the front.....she looked great.

To me, an American I can only think of what an expense...and what a waste......but maybe we can wear them again....I sure hope so.

It was a wonderful time lasting about 6 days......very very colorful.....and nice.

So thats my story---oh and on that wedding day ---it was a very auspicious day there were 20,000 weddings. UNREAL. NO, we did not bump into any others.ha

Hope you textile gals enjoyed my story.
I wish I knew how to insert pictures of the wedding and clothes...anyone interested I will private e-mail you photos
