I have been posting on many topics lately. It seems as if I've done a lot in these 37 years! I guess once you write stuf down and really look at it, you dont realize all of what you've accomplished in your life. So what I'd like to know is... what had YOU done in your life? Have you worn as many hats as I have? or more? Let me start my list:
I've been: a butcher's apprentice, a manager at a mall store, a receptionist, a housewife, a Longaberger, Country Bunny, Mary Kay and a Tastefully Simple consultant, worked at a hydroponic greenhouse (dont ask, awful just awful), a regular greenhouse, a chicropractic assistant, rodeo representative/contestant, home health aide, hospice aide, medical assistant <certified>, fitness instructor <certified>, wellness consultant <certified>, nutrition coach <certified>, dental assistant (hated it!), personal assistant to a local big namer (hated it), worked at TSC, went to beauty school, licensed esthetician, make up artist/educator for Mirabella Cosmetics, worked in 3 different spa's/salon's, pumpkin farmer, farm market owner, agri-penuer, and now I'm a part-timer at a chicken hatchery! Phew!

Wow! It looks like EVERYONE had really done A LOT! I started with stall mucking, then went to housekeeping, cashier, chicken farmer, and waitress. Then jet engine mechanic for six years, training scheduler for two. After that bookkeeper, freelancer, brief stint as a waitress again, volunteer helper at organic grocery, bank teller, odd-jobs for hire, housewife, apron artist, and soon-to-be tax preparer. In the future, I hope to have enough money to be able to volunteer at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, rather than work. And I'd really love to be a chicken farmer again. : ) And of course, the apron artist is an on-going thing.

A sauerkraut ball is a wad of kraut dip in a batter like stuff and deep fried or baked. Yummy. I know... I have such a way with words..."wad".....

Well Ladies it just shows how we women are able to anything, ever what men think they are only able to do. I've worked for 2 different insurance companies, a deli clerk, small store clerk, newspaper store, 3 different fast food places, a few waitressing jobs, a toy store (my favorite), the department of unemployment, electronics, dog walking (most favorite), 2 nursing homes, and some overnight jobs while my sons were small and my family watched them for me. I also drove a newspaper truck. I think I've covered everything, today I work for a major department store (not Macy's) we sell the same things, but less exspensive. Everyone of us has done something that we never thought we were cabable of doing, but it is fun once you relize how talented we are no matter what. I don't feel like such an odd ball. We can survive and will.

I have to say after reading only a few pages that the most interesting "funny" jobs you have had are the "body picker upper" and the "drunk shift at fast food place"

Where in Idaho Theresa? Secretary for Electrical company, SANCCOB washed and medicated ocean birds for them, after they got covered in oil from Tankers getting wrecked, SPCA washing and medicating dogs who had Mange in townships, worked in retail clothing (YUCK), Graded pearls for a wholesale jeweller and owned a restaurant. Then I moved to the USA and worked on grounds crew for a college I was attending, got married and sold Brite Music, worked our farm and raised and trained Peruvian Paso horses and sheep. Worked for Roberts Arts and Crafts and Porters, also an arts and crafts store, opened a restaurant and then got divorced. Opened another restaurant in Rexburg and all along had been writing technical manuals and Policy and Procedure manuals for businesses, so did that almost primarily. Then waitressed, worked the betting booths at the racetrack and remarried. Now I write, herbalize and run the farm....phew. I have been blessed!

What a cool thread! :)
I'm new here, this is just my second post, but I had to chime in!
What I've done: Learned radiology technology and terminology as a young girl, volunteered as a pink lady at a hospital, taught myself how to ski, taught myself how to ride a horse- both english and western, worked in retail(where I met my husband), worked in retail and then again! :) Been a mom, and all that entails, went to school- many times over the last 25 years, worked at a division of an aeronautics plant, got laid off, then was begged to come back to the main aernoautics plant, went to school again for engineering, worked as a waitress, worked as a cook, went to school for historical studies, studied midwifery and genealogy, studied gardening, baby-sat, raised my kids and homeschooled them, completely restored an old house mostly by myself, taught my children how to appreciate the land and raise their own produce, and how to recycle and respect our earth, have been present and helped at the delivery of 3 of my 6 grandchildren, delivered a litter of pups, again mostly by myself, learned about green living, went and am currently going to school to become a medical transcriptionist, and planted and tended a 40 foot garden- mostly alone.
Things I want to do: Own my own chickens, cow and at least 2 horses, have a completely organic garden, make my own wine, make a wool rug, hopefully at least 8' by 10'. Hike the Appalachian trail all at once, bike or hike cross country, spend a year in Scotland. Breed my golden retrievers and be able to keep at least one pup. Build a house from wood grown on my own property, without much outside help, make lye from ashes from our wood stove, take my grand daughters to tea in England, take all my grandchildren swimming with the dolphins and/or coral diving. There's plenty more I want to do, but this is just a start! :)
Whew! Big list, but it felt great to get it all down!
I absolutely loved reading through everyone's posts, very interesting! Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hmmm... I've been a fabric store sales associate, floral dept leader, clothing store sales associate, party leader for Build-A-Bear Workshop, assistant buyer for a department store (both in cosmetics and in men's clothing), retail store manager, bookkeeper (i didn't last a week, HATED it), marketing director/web designer for a wedding catering business, time-share sales person (again, HATED it), and now I'm an office manager for a trade association. I hope to add veterinary assistant/technician to that list at some point in the future. :)

I think I started working before many of ya'll were even born! I started in Houston at a chemical company, working in the computer department. Made it up to supv before I bugged off to Belize for 6 months. and for the next 15 years, that was my norm, work enough to go back to Belize for however many months I could afford. I've driven down twice, once hauling a truckload of bulls and once a 25 foot cabin cruiser. And I've flown many times in between.

I've cooked, always as a back up job, knowing I could make my way anywhere in the world if I had a solid background in a commercial kitchen. I cooked in local greasy spoons and at a resort. I cooked at Houlihan's downtown Houston, which was a blast! (live music every night)
I stayed home and ran a goat dairy for over 20 years, once I decided to come back to the farm. I made cheese and soap and totally loved the goats and the life. But, I had a spate of bad health and realized they were going to put on my tombstone "She'll be here as soon as she milks the goats"...
I've been a dairy goat judge, an artificial inseminator, cattle rancher, commercial hay baler, darkroom technician, and I had to laugh at the person who worked in a mortuary, I've also been a driver for a morgue.
Now I raise Paso Fino horses and work at Texas A&M (in the office, back at computers, but in the Custodial office, which is a laugh, considering how much I detest housework. )

I want to say first that I am only 53. I skimmed over the list and suddenly felt older :o)

I waitressed in my youth, loved cash in my pocket, tried to work at very nice restaurants once I learned the tip potential. Years back, I worked in a variety of retail stores, from clothing to imports & gifts, interior decorating stores and quilt shops. I began self publishing 'country craft' patterns in the latter 80s, moved on to free-lance design for book and magazine publishers, taught craft sewing classes at shops and in schools, got back into horses (Morgan Horses), married back into cattle ranching, bred/raised/trained horses, enjoy exotic bantam poultry and showed them a little, served as editor of a horse club magazine - did a lot of graphics and ad work, took up free-lance writing for hire, bought a camera and added 'photo journalism', bought a mountain of gemstones and began making and selling handmade jewelry wholesale and retail. Cattle ranching is my livelihood. I'm once divorced and have been happily married to #2 for 15 years. I've never made a living in the arts, just made enough to convince myself it was worth the time and investment. In truth, the profit margin is thin...but the rewards have been many. Creativity and the fruit that comes from it is my mission field, it is God gift to me and it comes with a responsibility to minister to other creative souls. In so doing, my own self esteem is fed a rich diet of making new friends who are very often givers in their own right. Being creative can be like all of life...ups & downs, victories and disappointments, but in the end you find that if your heart was in the right place you can and od make a difference in people's lives while learning the art of becoming the person you hoped would happen. A never ending process...until they close the lid.

My very first job was as a tour guide at an historic mansion. I did that for seven summers. I've been a high school science teacher for 20 years, but always seem to find something "else" to do : camp counselor, river otter tracker, bear trapper, red deer park planner (in England), volunteer coordinator (at the Seattle Aquarium), art gallery salesperson, textbook editor, hunting check station manager, sold Avon, sold Tupperware, 4-H leader, "mini-farmer", and of course all the hats that go along with being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin.
