Thanks Heather.
My cast iron usually works well, but sometimes I have problems.
The hot vs cold idea may be the cause.

Tina, they need to be well seasoned. But, also I think some people don't understand also hot. Always make sure your skillet is piping hot (almost smoking) before putting foods in it. If seasoned well, and hot when you put the food in, they are non stick, but unseasoned, or cold pans will stick.

Well, the jury's out on how earth-friendly cane sugar production is, but I'm not gonna get all political on your patoot! :) Like some others here, I prefer to use salt or baking soda for this, but I have a friend who uses sugar to exfoliate in the shower. I think it's fabulous how creative we all are with common things. It's good for the brain to look sideways at everything and ask yourself, "Is that all it can do?"

Thanks for such a great tip! I get frustrated with my cast iron, too, sometimes!

If you need some abrasive but less than sugar or salt, baking soda works well too.

I need to try that with my cast iron. I have not been very happy with my cast iron. It is only because I am not getting the care instructions I guess. Or that I need to season it better. Which I think it is the latter.
Thanks for the scrub idea.

Salt works really well on cast iron as well......

Blessings to all!

That sounds like a great idea! I love to cook with iron skillets and sugar would probably provide just the right amount of abrasiveness without ruining the seasoned finish. I will definately try it! Thanks for the tip!
