Thanks Ladies...it will be this coming spring before we get out goats...fence and small barn has to be put in first...and then I will be on my way to my own milk and cheese...

anatolian shepard would be a great dog for you, one of the best guardian breeds out there...

Llamas are used a lot in our part of the country. Our neighbors use a donkey for sheep and goats.
However, the mountain lions are still around . . they are getting the sheep AND killed our llama (he was not guarding anything, was 23 years old and, we think, just recently went deaf)
It's hard to know the best thing but most folks around here would vote for the llama.

most of the predators are coyotes and some times bob cats..we have only seen one..or should I say heard the bob cat..

We use a llama for our sheep. Her name is Snickers. She does a great job keeping the neighborhood dogs and the coyotes away.
