Posted - Sep 08 2011 : 5:12:13 PM So, I've been working for about a month on getting two flocks of chickens mixed together, and I think I've got success! I hatched a small group of chicks about 2 months ago. I had them in their own little cage, which eventually got too small. I ended up lining a LARGE (For our Bernese Mountain Dog) dog crate with chicken wire, and putting that cage right next to the coop.
I started letting them have "Supervised" visits by letting all the chickens out at once, then putting away the little ones. This "visitation" lasted a couple weeks.
Once we ran into some inclement weather, I put them all into the big coop together. With no problems! :) There's been no peck injuries, loss of life (Thank heavens!) or pecking order problems. I'm kinda proud of myself! I heard it was hard to integrate flocks, but maybe mine are just easy going. LOL.
