Posted - Jun 03 2009 : 5:30:24 PM I finally heard the new rooster crow today. It was so cute. He stretched so high and let out the funniest crow I've ever heard. I was wondering about the boy. I've seen him on the hens so I knew he was a rooster but never heard him crow. I was out in the garden when he let loose. I sure miss that sound after losing Russell Crowe.

Posted - Jun 04 2009 : 05:47:15 AM There was one like that out here at the Ranch when I worked out here before Nora was born. Oh man! You couldn't sleep with the window open because he would crow at around 3 am every day. I did NOT need to get up at 3am!

Posted - Jun 04 2009 : 05:43:08 AM My neighbor has one that crows at all hours of the day and night. I'd like to put it in my freezer!

Posted - Jun 04 2009 : 03:48:43 AM I would say he's about 6 or 7 months old. Sometimes they crow earlier than that and especially when there are more than one. But 1 by their self has no one to copy and it just happens. Then there is lots of practice crows til they get it right.
I had 5 Easter chicks that all turned out to be roosters. Boy, did they have some crowing contests. And all day, too. One would crow then another then they'd all get going. Thay all ended up in the freezer.

Posted - Jun 04 2009 : 02:53:48 AM How old is he? I was just wondering when I can expect my buff to start crowing. There is nothing quite like waking up to a rooster crowing. It has been awhile since we have had a rooster.

Posted - Jun 03 2009 : 10:02:54 PM That is so funny. I have this image of a 12 or 13 year old gangly boy with glasses trying to sing and having his voice break...

Posted - Jun 03 2009 : 7:44:33 PM Yes, it was kind of a strange gurgly crow, but still a pretty good one.

Posted - Jun 03 2009 : 5:43:52 PM Haha! I have not found a name for this one. I do have maybe 4 of Russell Crowe's offspring. I'm waiting to see. I had 5 of his hatch and they are about 6-7 weeks old now. Looks like there might just be 1 little hen and the rest roos. So I will be keeping one of the roos to take his place. I don't know what I will do with this new rooster yet but I know I don't want 2. I have the little Buff roo, too. But will put them out back soon.
