Posted - May 18 2007 : 8:46:33 PM Do you need glass bottles?
I have an outlet to get some wonderful glass bottles from an old dairy in my area. I know the family who owns them could use the money from selling the bottles and I know how hard it can be to find dairy bottles for a decent price. I bought a dozen from them for a friend of mine about 6 months ago and I would be willing to help broker a deal for you if you would like them.
The have half gallon bottles and quart size as well. They were used in a functioning dairy so they aren't brand new, but they are in good shape. Some of them have fun designs on the handle grip (like waves and such) and some are plain.
Please either respond to this post or email me if this is something you need. I am pretty sure I can keep the cost below $5 a bottle with shipping and everything.

Posted - Jul 08 2007 : 5:40:59 PM I do have access to the pint sized ones, but no gallon sized. I don't think this dairy ever stocked that size to hard to lug around I think.
Talitha- Did you ever get your bottles?

Posted - Jul 08 2007 : 4:01:55 PM I just bought some of Alee's bottles when we went blackberry picking yesterday, and had to come look this thread up. I just love them! Alee, do you have access to the tiny ones or to gallon sizes? The ones I bought are 1/2 gallon and one quart, perfect for all sorts of things. I wonder how they'd do in the metal crates at an antique store I'm thinking of in Spokane...PastBlessings?

Posted - Jun 17 2007 : 8:09:51 PM Hi Talitha-
Next time I am there I can get the smaller bottles which I am now realizing aren't pints, but half-pints! I saw a pint milk bottle yesterday and realized it was twice as big as the little bottle she gave me. I hope you get yours soon. As soon as I get back to Moscow I will track it if you haven't gotten it yet.

Posted - Jun 15 2007 : 07:39:40 AM Aunt Jenny! I am so so glad your milk bottles arrived safely! That takes a big load off my mind! They didn't use plastic caps at the dairy- just the paper pogs and foil. The box with them in it was not accessible at the moment, but maybe next time I can get some for you if you wanted.

Posted - Jun 14 2007 : 10:44:11 PM Mine got here just fine. I feel lucky!! I love them! Thanks for doing this Alee..they are perfect!! Did you think to ask if the dairy had any plastic caps that fit them available?? I just use plastic wrap and a rubber band on them right now..but would love caps if they have some.

Posted - Jun 14 2007 : 8:11:06 PM Oh yes- and if you ordered (and paid for) your glass bottles- please let me know! I will ship replacements via priority mail (the nicely handled mail) as soon as I get back. I will deal with the insurance later but I want to get the bottles back out to you all.

Posted - Jun 14 2007 : 8:09:52 PM Okay-
So two ladies have emailed me and let me know that some of their bottles arrived smashed. Not just kindof broken or with a little knick or crack... but smashed to smithereens! So I went to the post office today to get information on claiming the insurance on each package. The kind post office guy said "Well, it looks like they got sent Parcel Post which is only sorted by machines. The boxes get shuttled around and dumped and other boxes dumped on top of them..." basically Parcel Post is the roughest type of shipping that can happpen. This is what my post office recommended when I told them I am shipping Glass Bottles! Does that make sense to you?

Posted - Jun 08 2007 : 2:50:58 PM Hi Amanda
The half gallons look like this- but without the lettering http://cgi.ebay.com/Bryne-Dairy-Half-Gallon-Milk-Bottle_W0QQitemZ160114608862QQcmdZViewItem And the quarts look like this without the lettering: http://www.rubylane.com/shops/charmingandcheap/item/5588?gbase=1 There are also really cute pints that look like the quarts but I am not sure how much they want to sell those for.

Posted - Jun 07 2007 : 5:37:25 PM Hi Ladies!
Shipping is way more expensive than I thought it would be! Yikes! To send out 4 boxes it was $60! I hope they all get there intact. If not, please let me know. I put insurane on each of the shipments just in case.
Also- I appolgize. I had to ship the bottles dirty. They have been sitting in an old dairy since 2001. I didn't have time to wash them all since I don't have a dishwasher. So please make sure you wash and sanitize them when you get them! I normally would not ship dirty items like that, but I figured you might want them sooner rather than after I get back from Wyoming.
Hugs
