Posted - Nov 19 2005 : 08:02:32 AM I have used the search before on this site with no problem, but for the last couple of days it has been giving me error messages. Is there something wrong with it? I have tried from two different computers, one at home and one at work. All my other searches on other sites have worked. Just curious.

Posted - Nov 19 2005 : 09:48:32 AM Thanks Mary Jane for looking into this problem. I have had the same trouble lately but found I could get some things in the search if I really narrowed down my search to only one topic at a time and only a few names or if it was something I had been in on the discussion I used my name with just one word or a short phrase. It seemed to work last night that way but when I tried to broaden my search I had trouble. Will be glad when it gets fixed. Eileen

Posted - Nov 19 2005 : 09:05:34 AM Thanks MaryJane, I understand. I figured it was something behind the scenes. I work on computers all day long and can feel the pain when things just don't run as expected. I can wait for it to be fixed, it wasn't a big loss on my part that I couldn't search. I can scroll for a while to find the subjects I am interested in Thanks again for having such a wonderful resource for us to use. I know it must be a lot of work and I appreciate it.

Posted - Nov 19 2005 : 08:18:43 AM Good morning Anne! We're working on an upgrade. Now that we've hit 1,800 members, she's a bit overloaded! Here's the exchange I had this week with our service provider:
Sent: Tuesday, November 15, 2005 12:13 PM Subject: Snitz forum search problems MJ, Sorry I missed your phone call. We still don't know much about the Snitz forum, although we are learning more all the time as we help you and Carol maintain your install. So we don't have any in house expert, but Dain is getting there. I can have him look into optimizing the search performance if you like. If you have a large database of historic posts it’s possible that the sheer number of posts is slowing it down. Might also be that the database needs to be indexed or compacted. We can't know until we dig in and look around. It might take an hour or two before we can even say whether it’s something we can fix. What do you think? You want us to spend time on that? I walked to the top of the ridge on Sunday morning in that little storm. I got to the top just at the height of the storm and leaned out over the edge facing into the snow. The clouds and snow were swirling around and I could see your farm down below come into focus every now & then. It was pretty cool. Bill

Wednesday, November 16, 2005 4:27 PM Subject: RE: Snitz forum search problems MaryJane, I had Dustin the DB master review it. He recommends we change the way the query to the DB works everywhere Snitz calls the search (~1-2hr) and we move the DB off of its current server onto a new one I have. The old DB server is loaded and slowing down. The new one will be a little faster and it's not (yet!) as loaded down. So 1-2 hrs add'l. We already have about an hour in it so far. Thoughts? Bill
