Posted - Apr 13 2012 : 05:07:05 AM I located a store where they rent out sections for selling handmade items. Is $35.00/month for a 4 x 4 area reasonable? They have a larger space for $55.00/month.

Posted - Jun 14 2012 : 08:19:50 AM Thanks for sharing. I'm hesitant to do it now that the Farmer's Market isn't working out too well. It's just our location I think.
We may stop doing the Farmer's Market too. I'll update after this next Saturday.

Posted - Jun 11 2012 : 7:23:10 PM I have my items in a shop named "Craftiques". I rent a 6x5 space for $45. Some months I barely cover the cost of the space and I think if it were not for the "junk" I include, I would not make anything.

Posted - May 04 2012 : 06:00:57 AM I checked out the store at the mall yesterday.
It's 1/2 full of renter's already. I'm hesitant to rent this summer, but may this fall. There is already one person selling jelly, however her prices are high ($6.50/half pints). There are no sellers for crocheted/knitted items/goat's milk soap/or other items we make.
Tomorrow is our first Farmer's Market! I am praying we do well. :)

Posted - Apr 27 2012 : 12:28:12 PM ...I didn't mean for the double post. Oops!
Things are coming along nicely. I'm getting the yard sign ready, will drive to town and check out the rental space, and possibly start checking other places too. I'm really excited.

Posted - Apr 17 2012 : 05:59:37 AM YOU GO GIRL!!! I'm pulling for you. I am able to sell my aprons from home as well as Farmers Market (during the season) and a local restaurant. I've been approached by two other business owners who want to carry them in their business.
Getting things made and ready can be a challenge . . . I certainly know that! Wishing you the best! CJ

Posted - Apr 16 2012 : 9:02:57 PM Good luck to you Kristina. I have often thought of doing something similar as I live on a busy county road. Would have to look in to it more- as far as selling the eggs I am quite sure that is no problem. Probably wouldnt do any other food items, but perhaps something else nifty...HMMMMM- my wheels continue to spin! LOL

Posted - Apr 15 2012 : 06:13:57 AM Found out that I don't need a food license to sell eggs from my home (if I have 500 or less layers). I don't need one for the farmer's market to sell jelly/jam either.
I am going to go drive up to the mall next week and check it out too.

Posted - Apr 13 2012 : 5:39:12 PM Glad you can sell out of your home. We cannot sell any food items without a food license, and also need a sales tax license and zoning to sell out of house. Hope it works out well for you.

Posted - Apr 13 2012 : 1:01:03 PM Do both! Just wait till college is in to so the store booth. By then the tourist season will have passed & less people will be taking casual drives through the country so you front porch sells will probably slow down then. See if you can maybe book the first month in advance so you don't miss a slot. $35 isn't all that much for taking a risk, but yeah, if you have to pay for a whole year un advance that could mess you up.
I was looking into a flea market booth that runs $20 a weekend & I thought that was a good deal. :D

Posted - Apr 13 2012 : 09:55:02 AM The store is in a mall, but it does not get much traffic until college is in session.
I had a "brain fart" and have already called hubby to leave him a very excited message. I'm taking the plunge with building a roadside sign and selling from my home (front porch). I have to run out for more jars, but will can jelly again tomorrow.
We are really excited. We can sell our goat's milk soap (in progress), and even eggs! So so so excited about giving this a whirl. I sure hope hubby is in on this. It would save me the cost of the booth and we are on a country highway! How perfect!
....now, to find some scrap wood for my sign.

Posted - Apr 13 2012 : 05:36:53 AM That is about what it was here, but the consignment shop they had here closed just before Christmas because the one that was running it had cancer and just passed away last month. Hope you do it and make alot of money. Usually they work out okay because alot of the ones that rent spots also buy others things. Let us know if you decide to do it.

Posted - Apr 13 2012 : 05:35:24 AM What do they include with the space as far as advertising, etc.? Does the store get a lot of traffic and/or is it in a visible location? Another question you may want to ask is whether or not they want a specific time commitment or if you can just go month to month. I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide-I'm sure your space will look great!!!! |
