Hi girls!

Oooooh, man.... I'm giggling again...

I just wrapped up a text session with my son and swear I heard him groan the moment I signed off, "Huggy huggy to my lil love buggy!" LOL! I know.. I shouldn't be so "Mo-o-om!" embarrassing. I can't help it. I still see him as a little boy sometimes, and I always want him to know that Mommy loves him, especially during these turbulent teen years. I'm sure I'm not winning any points with that particular saying, though. The silence on the cell phone afterwards was deadening. I'm such a mean Mom. Tee hee... Oh well, I'm sure I'll hear about it when he gets home. But it's not like I say it in front of anyone to embarrass him, for Heaven's sake! LOL! Guess I'm going to have to make cookies or muffins or something to sweeten his mood...

I also call my hubby, "Woobie." You know, like the name the little boy gave to his security blanket in the movie "Mr. Mom." He's my warm, loving security blanket - my Woobie. It drives the man absolutely nuts. Depending upon when and how I use the term, though, it either makes him cringe or smirk. Let's just say a little humor and a funny face goes a loooong way.

Another thing is, I always seem to hear my Grandma's voice singing in my heart in different situations. The other day my son had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity offered to him, and without even giving it a thought I said, "Well, you know, if you do decide to do that, it's just another feather in your cap, bud." He looked at me like I had two heads. It's funny how Grandma's words just come to the surface. She is always with me, and I find that quite comforting - even if it blows my son's mind sometimes.

I've got a million of them, to be sure. But I'm wondering what other funny pet names you have for your loved ones and any sayings you're known for... How did you come up with them? Where did they come from? Let's spread the giggles!

Hugs -

Nini

How cute, Tara! I love Zepplin! We have a good friend who named his dog "Zeppelin" and we all called her Zeppy! SO cute!

I thought of another funny one! When my Mom was becoming a new grandmother, she asked if it would be all right to choose what the grandbabies would call her. She called one day and announced that she wanted to be called, "Gigi." That was a nice name, I thought... easy, original, special like she would be to the kids... As you may know, my sister lives in Denver, so we weren't all able to get together to meet the babies until the following Mother's Day, which we decided to celebrate at Gigi's house. At that time, I signed a card for my son to "give" to his grandmother, and wrote "To Gigi" on the front of the envelope. My mother read that and said, "No! No! Not 'Gigi!' It's 'G.G.'" I knew she was waiting for me to ask, so I said, "Well why just "G.G.," Mom? Just to make it simple for them?" And my stepdad chimed in with a giggle, "No... 'G.G.'s' short for 'Granny Gums!'" LOL! My mother just glared at him and said to never mind, it would be fine just to write it either way. LOL!!!

I have a blue cream tortie point siamese cat. Her name is Mimi, but my husband and I have many names for her. Recently we started calling her " Neti-Pot". She is blue and so is the neti-pot. My fat, old gray tom is known as " zepplin", sometimes, as he resembles one.

LOL! Oh my goodness... Those chicken names are hysterical, Shannon! I think if I raised a meat chicken, I'd have to call it "General Tso!" LOL! Or maybe "Teriyaki..." or even "Piccata..." or "Lemon..." or Oh! Oh! "Rosemary..." LOL!

Sharon - I've been telling friends about your Aunt Chilada nickname - they love it! LOL! SO great!

I LOVE the chickens' names! I had a friend that did that to her chickens... I do not recall all of them, but I know she had a Dumpling, Dinner, Nugget, and Stew. I'll have to ask her what else she named hers. I'm thinking when we FINALLY get ours, we will do something very similar... Call our "laying chickens" egg dish names and our "meat chickens" meat dish names :)

a few times a week, my sons are called by their nicknames: Huckleberry and Buckeroo... aka Huck & Buck.

I am always a fan of a creative pet name. Probably not original, but our hens are: Souffle, Quiche, Omelet, Foo Yung, Tamago and Meringue. We've had Nog and Deviled in the past... but they were killed in a dog fight. ;)

My dad would call me HoneyBunch at times, and it still warms my heart because he's really not all that gushy. He'll call my boys, "Stick in the Mud" or Pedro.

When my husband or I coach a sports team, we don't hold back when it comes to nicknames, and the kids LOVE it. Some we run into after the season ends, and we never remember their real names, and are probably the only ones to use their nicknames... I still can't quite remember "Toadstool's" real name!!!

I love that other people use nicknames! This is great to read. I hardly ever call loved ones by their real names....I must come by it honest (as my MIL says) because my Dad used to call me mung bean and said he was going to name me Treetop. I have two dear friends who are Pigs and Poop, and I'm Pugs (long story). I call my two fur girls (dogs) chickens, ponies, about anything but dogs. My one dog growing up was Lassie, but I called her Bubbie or Beau. I rarely use my dogs real names now unless they are in trouble - Lola is Lu, and Georgia is G, Baby G, or Gigi. My husband and stepson are "Hun" or "sug," or if I really want to tease my husband, sweetpea, pumpkin pie, or pretty baby sweetie cutie.

I think it must mean we are all very creative :) Thanks for sharing all these great names and stories!

LOL! Nini that is too funny. I would have had a fit if my hubby did that to me when our kids were born. I named them all.

I am so loving this thread, too!

CJ - I love "Bullfrog!" When I was a little kid, I remember sitting on our neighbor's, Christopher Schmidt's, "Indian pile" (big pile of dirt in his backyard that gave us hours of joyous creative play) and belting out "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog..." for HOURS. You would have thought that was the only song we knew! We thought for sure we'd be a rock band one day! That is AWESOME! I just love that song - really brings back the memories!!!

LOL! Denise - Your "fuzzy wuzzy" nickname for your daughter just reminded me of what my husband calls our foster daughter. He drove up to the house to pick up our foster son for work one day, and her hair, which is super short, was sticking straight up in the air. He said, "Well top o' the morning to you, Heat Miser!" When he told me that, I about choked on my coffee he had me laughing so hard. I could just see her clear as day! LOL!

I love the nickname pumpkin! As I mentioned, that's one of the pet names I have for my son. I even called him that when he was in utero... I would rub my tummy and say, "Keep growin' pumpkin! Keep growin'!" And before we knew whether he was a boy or a girl, my husband nicknamed him Zmoot.... He got it from some TV show while watching the credits. One of the cameramen's name was Zmoot, and he just loved it. My hubby is really goofey about names, though. He grew up in a place where kids had names like Hugo Ikach (Sound it out... and NO, I kid you not!). He wanted to name our son - are you ready for this? Otto Maddock Betters. (Get it? Automatic.) I made the nurse in the hospital PROMISE and PINKY SWEAR not to give me anything that would put me out of my mind because he teased me about it so much I was so afraid he'd try to name the baby that if I was out of it! LOL!

Awww, Denise, what a great story! That's so sweet that you got a pumpkin to show him. The things that kids get in their heads....
CJ, my son's name is a variation of William, so I do call him Sweet William sometimes - he's not too happy about it, he just turned 14!
levisgrammy Posted - Jul 24 2013 : 1:12:32 PM
What a great thread. My husband and I are not very creative we just call each other "hon", but I always called son buddy. My husband used to call my daughter "Goofy" but it had nothing to do with the mickey mouse one. I called her fuzzy wuzzy because her hair stuck straight up on end until she was about a year old. Now her daughter's does the same.

I call my granddaughter, Annie, hunny bunny.

My uncle used to call me pumpkin and the story goes that I thought he didn't know what a pumpkin was or looked like so my mom took me over there to visit with a pumpkin in tow so I could show him that I was nothing like a pumpkin.

Our daughter's name is Robin . . her nickname is "Birdie". (She's also a farmgirl sister here)
Our son's name is Jeremy, which is a derivative of Jeremiah. Sometimes he is called "Miah". Sometimes he is called "Bullfrog".
There's a song out there that has the line "Jeremiah was a bullfrog". He doesn't mind.

My hubby's name is Bill. Sometimes he is called "Bad Billy", sometimes "Sweet William" and sometimes "Billy-Bob" . . :D

Aunt Chilada - - love it!!! And delicious!
Oh, Sharon It's so sweet that your husband still calls you his bride... how romantic! :0)
I love your pet's pet names! Growing up, we used to have a cat named Cookie. Yep, and my dog's name was Candy. That's my mom, not me. My husband and I had a pug we named Poppyseed. So nicknames were always poppyseed bagel, poppyseed bun, and a personal favorite of my oldest daughter and me - poppyseed babka.
Now I'm hungry......
Just yesterday, I was having this conversation with a fried of mine, (not about being hungry, about names) because I have a long, confusing last name that no-one can pronounce. So I tell the kindergarten CCD kids, just call me Mrs. "M" (or Miss Lisa). My friend said the same thing (also a Mrs. M - different M, though). And then we said, "Just don't call me late for dinner!".
Ninibini Posted - Jul 23 2013 : 02:45:28 AM
LOL! Aunt Chilada!!! That's HYSTERICAL, Sharon! Caught me totally off guard and made me laugh up my coffee! LOL!!! That's awesome!

I agree with Lisa, too, Shannon - Aunt Valedictorian... MUCH better! ;)

Thanks for this thread Nini :) This is fun. Shannon sorry about the 'Dufus", I agree with Lisa "Aunt Valedictorian" :)

Growing up my Dad used to call me Shannie which I never understood because I was 'Sharon' not 'Shannon'
Michael my 'Honey" calls me Sweetheart and when he introduces me he says his "Bride" Sharon. Which is funny because a particular place where I shop the gals there know that Michael, my husband is a pastor. Well, one day Michael went with me (he had not been there before) and was introducing me as his Bride. One of the gals looked shocked and when Michael walked away she asked how long we were married for. I told her 15 years (at the time) and then she started laughing. She thought I left my husband and recently married.

Pet names :)

Our pup Cookie has a bunch of nicknames: Cookie Monster (when she is being extra playful), Cookie Dumpling (when she's being sweet) and Cookie Cutter (when she eats the wrong thing ;))

Oh and speaking of Aunts, our friend's boys call Michael and I Uncle and Aunt. They were visiting one time and I had made Enchiladas, I am now Aunt Chilada

Aunt Dufus!!?? Oh no - maybe this nickname shouldn't make it to the next generation!
I don't know Shannon, you're a better person than me....
How about Aunt Valedicorian!!
hudsonsinaf Posted - Jul 22 2013 : 5:18:47 PM
Sadly, I've kinda gotten use to being called Dufus. He still calls me that, and I'm in my mid-thirties now! Thankfully, he is the only one that does, though ;) He and his wife had their first baby back in January - he is NOT allowed to call me Aunt Dufus. I told my brother that if he does, I'm disowning him (my brother that is).
Ninibini Posted - Jul 22 2013 : 3:35:37 PM
Love the nicknames, girls! LOL! Oh... Shannon! You poor thing! Dufus? That's just mean!!! But funny! Very funny! And memorable, too!

What a fun topic! Growing up, I was the only one out of 5 kids that did not have a nickname, so my youngest brother decided to name me "Dufus." There is nothing like giving your Valedictorian speech at your High School graduation and hearing "yay Dufus!" Anyways, because of that, ALL of my children (we have six now) have nicknames! It is a requirement when we are picking a name. Even with that, though, I still find that we call our kids by other nicknames as well. My oldest was called "Chipmunk" because as a toddler, she had really fat cheeks and looked like a chipmunk hiding nuts in its cheeks. My second daughter is "Samarilla" (her name is actually Sam or Samantha) and my youngest daughter is "Cupcake." My boys are "Bubba," "Silly Willy" (his name is actually Will) and my youngest son is "Stinker." My hubby and I have called each other "Babyluv" since we first started dating, lol. It has still stuck!!!

My great grandmother called my sister Kelly with a green necktie. Yes her name is kelly. My moms mother used to call me moonbaby because I was born on the exact day the men left for first moon walk on July 16 1969. My son I call dood short for doodlebug.

I call my only daughter Julia, Jujubee, after the sweet candy. I continually make up names for my grandchildren. Sometimes it is pookiebug, or bootersnoot, and my grandson will always say, "I am NOT bootersnoot! I am Josiah!" I love to tease them with silly names.

ok, ok, I'll stop now.....

I once had a big white rabbit as a pet when I was a kid, and I named her "dutchess" (yes, really! I don't know what I was thinking - I was 10 years old and I guess it sounded fancy!) Anyway, My mom always called her "bun-bun". I guess Whatever is easiest tends to work!
