As some of you know, my Dad has been ill for awhile. I put a longer post on the Hogs and Quiches forum but I wanted to let people know that my Dad died peacefully yesterday after seeing my DD, SIL, and his 2 great-grand-daughters for 4 days over New Years.
Thank you so much to all of you who have walked this difficult journey with me. Your prayers, thoughts and support have meant so much to me. Joey

Joey I know what you are going through.I lost my dad in 2005, and it was so hard for me it took me a year and a half before I could actually talk about my dad and not burst into tears. Then it started getting easier and then I just began to think of the good times and precious memories. So take your and if it takes awhile so be it. And tell everybody else your not ready to deal with other things right now.
I will pray for comfort for you.

Hugs Marlee

Lori is so right--grieving really has no schedule. When my father passed, I was 19 years old, and I had such a terrible time with all of it. Bitter that he passed thousands of miles away from home, bitter that all his relatives came up to see "what they could get", and just so very sad. Sad for losing my father before he would ever see me married, hold his grandchild...all of it. And it was amazing how many people think you can just get back on the horse and get back to normal. Now, I'm not saying that routine can't be a good thing--otherwise, I might not have gotten out of bed had I not had 2 cats that wouldn't let me forget their meals, but you take the time you need and it's not wrong to say, "Hey kiddo, I don't feel like looking for new cars, alright? Not today, maybe tommorrow..." And all the other stuff CAN wait, really, until you feel more up to handling it.

Take care of you, because noone else will!

Thank you to all of you, my sisters, for your love and support thru my Dads death. As I reread your words, I have tears streaming down my face for your acceptance and love to me. The memorial services are over and I am home again. I am amazed at how many people think I should be "over" this now, 3 weeks later. My brother wants to talk about the taxes, my aunt wants to talk about her sisters illness, my Dh wants to talk about moving, and my daughter wants me to look at new cars!!! I just want 1 day (or many days) to greive and cry and deal with how I will never see my Dad again. I know everyone greives at their own time but REALLY!! I have told them all to leave me alone for awhile. SOOOOOOOOOO, I can't tell you how really, really good it feels to come here to this forum and find friends, support, love and acceptance. I am so tired! All of your kind words hold me up. My best girlfriend sent a card that said "Our parents didn't need to be perfect for us to miss them." That was perfect for my heart because my relationship with my parents was "iffy" and I have never been "good enough." Any way, I miss him and haven't quite gotten it yet that I will never see him again. I am so blessed that I was there when he died. I know he loved me and I loved him and in the end that is what matters-love. Joey

Dear Joey,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I don't know if you're familiar with the Curly Girl, but I recently saw this quote on one of her cards, "We will never be the same as we were before this loss, but ever so much better for having had something so great to lose." Your dad is forever your shining star. You are in my thoughts, dear sister. *Farmgirl hugs*

I have heard it said that one's willingness to stand and participate in life, while facing death and the good-byes it brings to one's lifetime, is the greatest honor one can offer to those who go before us to the other side. That you and your brother are speaking the Eulogy is such a courageous way to demonstrate this participation. I'm just taking a moment to pause and feel a tremendous calm flood over me. When I listen deeply, I can hear John Mayer sing, "Say what you mean to say...even if your hands are shaking...and your voice is broken..do it with your heart wide open!" I know this is EXACTLY what you will do tomorrow. You are, afterall, your father's daughter! I send you my blessings, my love and my light..always, ~julia hayes

Thank you all for your support and your prayers. His 1st memorial service is tomorrow here in Florida. I just finished his Eulogy..so hard. I worry about my DH who was SO close to my Dad and for my brother who is in Maine-so far away. My brother and family will come next week to Phila for Dads 2nd memorial.
Julia, it doesn't take much to make me cry these days but I want you to know how very deeply your words touched my heart. I am in tears and so comforted by your kind words and the caring love from my farmgirl sisters.
Please keep me in prayer tomorrow as I deliver the Eulogys-1 from my brother and 1 from me. I want to do my dad proud. I am so grateful that I know he is in Heaven with my mother and the Lord. That brings me peace. Joey

I am just coming to your journey. Although your dad's illness brought a journey, so, too, will his death. Watching the Mystery of death is something most of us are ill-equipped to face despite that all of us will in one way or another. It gives me a sense of calm knowing that your dad died peacefully..that many gathered around him to say good-bye. People who mattered to him. That part is absolutely divine.

To your new journey...your life without the physical presence of your dad..to his memory and to the new ones you are certain to make in his honor. My love and light are yours, ~julia hayes

I am so sorry for your loss. I am hoping the good memories will bring you comfort. I lost my mother to cancer 2 years ago, I am only now starting to 'live' again and trying to get on with things. So, just know the grieving process is different for everyone but it will be quite some time before the sun looks bright again. ((((hugs)))

Joann, I echo others' sentiments of sympathy. As you mourn keep fast to your "center". I've seen a lot of people "seem" to take a death of a parent OK, and then come apart at the seams. Lots of destructive behavior. Will be praying that you find comfort and peace in the passing.
