When one is old, how will one be?
If one is grumpy and generally all around hateful, critical, and just awful, How will one be when one is old?
If one is this way when young, will one be this way when one is old?

I am with Amanda,
My Grandpa was the crankiest and orneriest person my Mom/Aunt/Uncles Cousins and I knew growing up. As he got older, and finally had a Great Grandchild, he was the biggest pushover/softy by then.
He was sooo proud of my son Josh.
Ironically, he always treated my Grandma like she was a Queen. Never a harsh word, and lived in fear of upsetting her. Looking back, I think it was kind of cute.

My Dad is a softy, but is tending to be more ornery, contrary and crochety as he gets older.

Don't miss out on a blessing, just because it isn't packaged the way you expected. ~MaryJo Copeland

I am old (don't tell anyone I said that) and just happy and like to have fun. My mother is 92 and everyone thinks she is the sweetest lady ever. And she is. Always smile--it make people wonder what you've been up to--and be nice to people. Remember the Golden Rule--do unto others--words to live by. Now there--you never will be old and crotchety, because I said so. MB

Yes -- I can honestly say I am much happier now at 66 than I ever have been. Not sure why; I'm in more pain now, maybe it's because I know there is less of life left and the best way to enjoy it is to be happy.

I think as one gets older you can get happier. You don't sweat the small stuff and you don't care as much what others think of you. There are definitely physical challenges. I have two wonderful women neighbors who are both 85 and the nicest people you would want to meet as well as being very energetic! Its important at any age to feel young at heart.

Teri, I have thought about this before.... and I swear I will never be a crotchity old lady. I am however kinda controling with life matters & what I like & don't like to have around me..But I accept other people for who they are and respect other opinions. All I ask is the same in return. Growing old does give you some priveleges..like discounts at discount stores ad restaraunts and movies..My gramma was the sweetest old lady around and a real lady. I want to be just like her when I get Old...Btw how old are we talking here.....?

I'm with Amanda, *plus* I've known some people who were sweet and kind but for some reason just couldn't handle the aging process and became extremely bitter.

It sounds like you're having a rough time with someone -- I hope their heart softens.

Some people search for happiness; others create it.

Aww Terri, I dont know the answer for everyone. BUT in my experience I have seen both sides. Alot of times people get softer as they get older, and some stay hard and bitter...

Hugs Farmgirl!!
