Well, I am! And "trying" is the word. But am I really trying, or am I trying to make excuses as to why not to quit? I'm not sure. I could go to the doctor and get something to help......but I want to be strong enough to do this on my own. My son is almost 20 months old, I NEVER smoke around him. But I want to quit now b/c I don't want Zach to ever remember me smoking.

I remeber my dad smoking, he would always say "do as I say...not as I do." Well that didn't work, b/c I picked up his dirty habit when I turned 18. Now I'm 26, AND I WANT TO STOP!!!

Is anyone else going through this problem? Just wondering if there could be a support group here of women going through the same thing I am.

Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie- go to Walmart and buy a little humidistat. They are $3 and I bought one here because our house is SOOO moist. There are some days where I just shouldn't cook pasta in the house, ya know?

I think something else you might want to look into is doing a nice gentle exfoliating scrub like St. Ives Apricot scrub and then following with an intensive moisturizer- especially at night. Your skin is probably sloughing off the dead and damaged skin! You can even exfoliate your whole body with a really nice salt or sugar scrub. (Speaking of which if you want some to try to see if it helps let me know and I will send you a sample).

I know.....HOW EXCITING Lisa!!! Alee - Food taste enthralling!! If that makes sense... I salt my food less as well, I guess I can taste now of what I'm eating.

I'm struggling with the skin though, it seems a little better overall....but then it has these moments [especially my face].....maybe it's the dryness in the air. Maybe I should hike up the humidifier??

Wow, Jamie, I don't think I could handle being around all that smoke and not light up myself. That would be so hard. What a great accomplishment! I'm so proud and happy for you. Other smokers are generally not supportive and some will even try to sabotage your efforts. So, be prepared for those saboteurs!

I'm now on day 3. The weekend had it's tough moments even though there was no stress at all. Today, my daughter leaves to go back to school and I'm already teary eyed about it and she's not even out of bed yet! I always hate sending her off. I so enjoy her company. It's ok, though. I'm not going to use that as an excuse to light up. I can't. She's counting on me to do this, too.

Hi Everyone!!!! Sorry I've been out of the loop lately, things at work are busy and crazy!! And the weekend wasn't long enough...ugh...

ANYHOW...I'm proud to admit the fact that I'M ONE MORNING #12!!!! I have not given in to temptation nor am I going to. I love my new life! Yesterday I worked at the family diner [all smoking resturant].....and I did fine! Everybody there is really surprised that I quit. As well, they are not that supportive about it. They make comments like "OOoo Jamie, you're going to balloon up! Are you going to eat that?" *sigh* Keep in mind these are all smokers...or addicts....So I ignore them! I think deep down they are jealous and mad at them selves because they are not strong enough to quit....I'm praying one day they will have the strength.

Well, gotta get ready for work. I want to let you all know...I think of you like family! My farmgal family! I can't tell you just how important you all are to me. I've needed this forum and never knew it.

Jamie :)

P.s. Hey Lisa...How goes it? I'm pulling for you girl!! Hugs!!

What you need is a pair of teenagers that are out to get you to quit. I can remember mine would break my cigarettes in half, smash the pack, hide my lighter, and burn my matches. They have so many funny stories to tell about getting Mom to quit that I laugh when they tell them. Of course, in 1985 cigarettes were only $1.30 a pack. I dread to think what they cost now. When I buy a lottery ticket ($3) I tell them I am using my cigarette money! TeeHee

Jamie- just remember that smoking didn't cure the stress! In fact it probably made it worse because then you could then stress about your health, your family's health, money spent, possibly feeling bad knowing it is a bad habit...

I know that you will beat this stressful time. And think about it this way- each time you beat a craving- it is like you are adding to your stockpile of will power. Each time you do- it makes you stronger and stronger! *hugs*

So the next few weeks will be a true test of will!!! This is a very stressful time at work and I am fighting the 'addictive me'....but I will win!!! I need to re-track my thoughts and constantly remind myself why I quit. I am going to continue this....there is no other option!!!

Wow! And now you can do something better with that money- like a manicure or paying off debts or something! $20 bucks a week becomes $80 a month. You could even put that a side for a vacation or something!

Alee, I did the math...and you know what? The brand I used to smoke now cost $3.29 a pack. In 7 days I would have smoked about 5-6 packs! I know, WOW! That is between $16.45 and $19.74!!!! Holy Crap! [for lack of a better phrase] That is a lot of money wasted over the years!!!
