We are in progress of buying a home. Looking at an older farm house on 3 acres tonight. Other homes we've looked at have 1. There are others available but we aren't sure we want to retire here yet and can't really afford more acerage yet.

Still that's enough for chickens, a few milk goats, a garden and another bigger dog.

The other consideration is reselling if we are posted elsewhere.

Holly,
That house is beautiful! You have a great kitchen, and that dining room!! I love it. There is plenty of space for your gardens and it looks like a lovely flower garden already there. I think the location sounds like it will be a lot of fun for all of you. Plus an air conditioned garage, now that would be heaven to my husband! Congratulations!!!

We are getting the house in Abilene - it's a big old Victorian

http://kspropertyads.rapmls.com/scripts/mgrqispi.dll?APPNAME=Ksst&PRGNAME=MLSPropertyDetail&ARGUMENTS=-N156017849,-N48811,-N,-A,-N1960824

Has a nice yard so 2nd dd can still have bunnies for 4-H but Abilene doesn't allow chickens in city limits (may pursue that further later). Still I can have a garden as well. Will just be glad to be settled! This is on a main street in Abilene that's really pretty - at Christmas they also bring Christmas trees to these houses and you can decorate it however you want in your yard - right up my alley!! The budget will be tight but we are trusting the Lord for this.

The latest is that we were released from the house in Herington, we made an offer on a house in Abilene yesterday. God willing we will get a yes on our offer even though it is less than they are asking! If not we may still make an offer on the other place - or another house in town.

Blessings!

Thanks for the cyber hugs ladies!

So far it looks like the realtor will sign the release so we are out looking at houses in the Abilene area again today!

Yes, well we already offered to forfeit the money ($200) and the realtor is still really angry with us - broker owned home. Honestly, it's not my fault her contractor didn't keep up his end of the deal! She didn't tell us it wouldn't close on the 5th but told our realtor it would need the extra time.

Before you forfeit your earnest money, if the contract says it has to be done my Sept. 5th and it's not then they have to give you back the earnest money.

Thanks for the notes ladies. Actually we have decided to withdraw our offer on that house and forfeit the earnest money -- as it will not be ready to close on the 5th. Plus we'd really rather live in Abilene. So we are sorta back to square one in some ways. I realize it might take just as long with a "new" house to close as this one but at present it's "Well we may have to add two weeks..." and what if it's not done then?! The realtor is very unhappy but she should be yelling at her contractor not at us! She's fussing about "custom" stuff but really everything we've only picked a few things - paint color (we paid for the trim paint), countertop color, laminate flooring vs carpet in two of the bedrooms, things she was already planning to fix or would have to anyhow.

So now we go on from here. The Farmhouse is actually still listed as it's contingent on another house selling - which hasn't sold so we may even make another offer on it.

I am leaving the kiddos here with my family for a short time and I'm flying back to KS tomorrow to settle all this with hubby.

I am so happy you found a house!!! It can be so frustrating. Right now we have friends who have a house for sale out in the country and if I could come up with 180,000, I would be there, LOL. It is awesome 2 baths, large kitchen, huge wrap around porch, 5 bedrooms, living room parlor, family room, laundry downstairs, large dinning room, decorated so lovely. Has a pool, large barn silo and and pen. I belive it is on 4 or 5 acres. It is sooo lovely. Anyway I am glad you found one that will work for you. Praise God,

Amy

and the saga continues....

So the contractors are sort of showing up on time. The orginal trim color I picked is way to purple so we bought new that's actually blue.

We are currently in NM headed home to AZ (hopefully that will be a GOOD thing) for a visit - until closing. It's just way to hot and humid to camp right now (hubby is sleeping at the camp site but he's in an AC office all day) and my friend isn't happy. She didn't kick us out but I can just tell that she wasn't happy with us being there anymore so hence the trip to AZ. The only thing is my sister is already driving me nuts - ok so I'm hormonal but still! - with questions and querys. I usually can only be home for a week or so before my Mom and I or sister and I are fighting.

We are supposed to close Sept 5th.

Holly

Oh I am so glad you found a home! I am sure you are more than ready to have a place to "hang your apron" :) Maybe this place is just a stopping spot to that land you have always dreamed of, or maybe this will turn out to be just perfect for you. But at least it will be your own in the mean time!

Well we made an offer on a house in Herington and it's been accepted. It's a really nice house - or will be when it's done being remodeled but not much property. May be able to have a small coop of chickens though.

Oh Holly,
will continue praying for you to have the home. The journey isn't always easy, and I know that when you arrive at home you will go, Oh I see, but in the midst of the unknown that is extremely hard to remember.
There is a perfect place for you and your family. It will be exactly where you are suppose to be, with the ammentites that you need. It will have the land that you need for this season in your lives. Peace to you as you continue to search and wait.
Carol Sue

Enjoying the moments.

I don't see my last reply so here it is again -- sorry if it repeats!

We are STILL looking - people in this area have gotten greedy with the military influx and won't budge on their house prices even if they've been on the market for weeks/months! It's just insane. The free land is OF COURSE not anywhere near here or we would try to "prove up" in a heartbeat! Every offer we've made has been rejected - some without even counters.

Feeling very discouraged and wish I could hear clearly from the Lord on this! Thanks for the prayers and thoughts.

Holly -- just read through this thread. I am so sorry for all your frustrations. I am so surprised that there are such restrictions in KS. Geez -- they advertise giving away free land to try and encourage people to settle there. You'd think they'd encourage hobby farms. I will be praying that you find something soon.

Well we are still looking beleive it or not. Doesn't appear we will find anywhere with land at the present time.

There are two houses in Herington we are considering - one was built in 1898 and is $57,000 it's acutally in great shape. But we would have to replace the siding (asbestos currently), has a good size yard. For some reason they can't explain two of my children are adament that they don't like it.

The other was built around 1900 and is in the middle of a renovation/remodel. Will be lovely when done it's $99,000.

Abilene is known for it's schools and has a good homeschool group - haven't heard as good for Herington.

We are really trying to go where the Lord would have us as well.........sigh!

ArmyWifey Posted - Jun 20 2007 : 3:12:16 PM
Well we won't be getting that one...........we gave them 24 hours to accept and they wanted more time. Sorry but this is our second offer and we don't have all year!

Besides the help u sell realtor was unwilling to split the commision with our realtor.

So we made an offer on another house.

We actually made another offer on the house today --- they have 24hours to respond. IF it's a yes than the other folks have 48 hours to come up with financing/money rather than waiting for their other house to sell.

If it's a no - which I am praying if it's not to be than it won't - then there is another house in Enterprise we will probably make an offer on. It's a nice manufactured home that's huge - perfect for us except for less land and it's in city limits so you can't have critters. Although I may petition the city about that if we get that one.

Blessings.
