Hi girls!

I just want to share with you the sweetest thing. Many of you know that my husband was diagnosed at a pretty young age a few years ago with frontotemporal lobe dementia. These past years have been pretty difficult watching him decline.

If you remember any of my MJF posts, my husband used to be full of life and laughter. Oh, so much life and laughter. He could find humor in anything or make me laugh at the silliest things. We always had so much fun. He was also the biggest old softy with the biggest heart full of love. He just preferred to laugh, and that was a very good thing.

The sweetest thing he ever said to me was when our son was wee little. My girlfriend and her mom were visiting from out of state. The three of us were in the kitchen cooking, and my hubby was out back in the yard cutting grass in the miserable heat. All of a sudden the back door flung open and my husband came plodding across the kitchen, grabbed me in his sweaty grass-covered arms, pulled me close and gave me a big sweaty kiss. I said "Ech! What was THAT for?!" He said, "Toys in the backyard. I never thought I would have them." At which point, all three of us - my girlfriend, her mom and I, got big tears in our eyes and cried. My husband just turned away as if nothing happened and headed back outside to finish the task at hand.

That's just how he used to be... laughing and enjoying life and every once in a while he would be serious and romantic. Always sweet, though. Always my best friend. I have missed all of that terribly.

Fast forward to the beginning of this month.

My hubby, our dog and I were heading to the back door to head out to the car and go for our daily walk by the lake at the park. Nothing unusual or special was going on that day. It was just our usual routine. My husband was leading the way out to the garage. Behind him was our sweet, happy-go-lucky dog Bella who was wagging her tail in anticipation. I trailed behind her, one hand wriggling my arm through a sweater, one purse strap clutched in my teeth, and the other hand furiously searching my purse for my keys.

Suddenly he stopped, turned around and looked at me.

I asked, "What?"

He said, "What?"

I asked, "What are you looking at?"

He said, "You!"

I said, "What do you see?"

He tilted his head to the side, his eyes got soft, he gave me a really sweet smile and gently said with ALL sincerity,

"Ah. Pure Love."

At which point my legs felt weak, my heart was all warm, tears came to my eyes, and I rushed over to him, put my arms around him and said, "That's right, baby, and don't you forget it!" and gave him a big kiss.

Then he just turned around and walked out the back door as if nothing happened.

I stood there like a blubbering idiot.

It was the sweetest thing ever, and I will treasure that moment for the rest of my life.

These are the moments that sustain us.

One of my girlfriends calls those kinds of moments, "God winks."

Another called it "a gift from above," which it was, to be sure.

Yet another friend was simply amazed and called it an absolute miracle.

There are many wonderful names we can tag to that moment.

Call it what you will.

But to me, in my heart, it will always be...

simply...

Pure Love.

Hope this story brightens your day as much as it did mine!

Hugs and love,

Nini

So true, Cindy - thank you! I'm a big one for treasuring the finer things, which are truly the meaningful things. I'm so glad you enjoyed reading what happened. These things come SO few and far between anymore, and when they do I just want to celebrate! Good things MUST be shared!! Hugs - Nini

Thank you so much for sharing your heart-warming moment with us! It's the seemingly simple things that matter the most - thank you for reminding us of this. It's very easy for us to get caught up in the chaos of everyday life and sometimes we fail to notice those "God winks". Your husband is a treasure!

Nini,
Oh that we all would be more like that. Just a simple thing to some but so deep to others of us. So thankful God gave that moment to you. A reminder to give things like that to our spouses.

Now I have big crocodile tears Niki. How utterly beautiful and special and yes, a "gift from above"! Humans can take so many things for granted, wish for so much material things, get caught up in daily life that moments like this are missed or uncherished. Thank you for sharing such an intimate special moment. Much love....
