What one (or two) little thing (s) do you do for yourself every day? Something that is just yours to pamper yourself a little bit.

My morning coffee is my bliss. I buy a really good brand of coffee, have a special mug to drink it from, and have my hazelnut creamer. Pure heaven in a cup. I get up 30 minutes before every one else just so that I can enjoy that first sip all by myself. I also love having special soap -- handmade, of course -- to use for my bath with a nice fluffy washcloth. That's an every day ritual I've done for years. Love it!

Victoria magazines are the best. I had a subscription for years and have saved all of the issues. What a way to be creatively inspired. I just wish that they were still being published!

I have been napping durring the day lately..the last two weeks or so. I am not sure this qualifies as "me" time. I would rather be doing something fun, something that inspires me. However I need the sleep too I think.
I do need to make some changes in my daily life. I havent been able to motivate myself to find prayer and meditation time. I also need to define for myself and others what I will accept in terms of a commitment to them. All too often I will accept a sewing job or accept a class to teach and then something that was supposed to be simple becomes complicated and very time consuming. There must be some Law of Magnatism involved as then these small committments draw more small committments.
Teaching a quilting class, grew to working the shop on occassion to having samples made on a deadline, to typing my class descriptions to finding myself being asked to donate time to Quilt Pink and the annual quilt show commitee.
Attending church grew to volunteering for readings, cleaning, cooking, and stepping in to help with the food pantry.
I think to some extent this happens to all of us. Everywhere I look there is so much charitable work to "get done" and so few hands to do the work. Often if we agree to one thing we find an entire platter handed to us.
Then something you did for fun or enjoyment grows into this big needy monster.
If I ever learn to, saying "no" more often will be something I do for myself.

Bubble baths. I once turned down renting a beautiful little apartment in an old Victorian house because there was no tub! Call me crazy but that is the thing I could not do without.

Books - really fluffy, cheesy, harlequinn-type romances. Sometimes my brain needs a vacation and these are the perfect thing.

If I'm really treating myself, I'll go down to the antique mall and rifle through the piles of old magazines to find an issue of Victoria to buy

I do hope you all will understand what I am about to tell you here. I live in a household where life is not about me at all. Okay. In other words, life is about everyone else. I'm expected to do certain things....most of which are not for my peace of mind at all. At any rate, having three adult children, a husband, and a 2 year old grandson living here leaves me little time or opportunity to use my brain. I do clean houses for very wealthy people and am highly appreciated in those homes. But, I had to get out of this house once in a while in the evenings if I was going to keep my sanity. SOoooo, in October of 2005 I got myself a job at ACMoore in the yarn department. Why yarn? Because I actually know what I'm talking about and I feel good after sitting on the floor for 30 minutes teaching someone how to cast on and knit a scarf. Some of the customers look me up on the three nights I work to ask me questions or ask my opinion about something. My opinion counts there! That's a great thing for me to know.....I actually can have an opinion that someone can use! I'm not complaining here....there's no money to buy special teas or coffees or bathoil. But what is so valuable to me is that I'm making a difference in other peoples lives who really want me to. They don't expect anything else out of me. They just want my opinion and my honesty. Now if that's not something to praise the Lord for, what is????!!!!! Susan

My "me" time is riding my horse...great quiet prayer time too! Love it!
Forrester Farm Posted - Jan 09 2007 : 8:29:58 PM
I've loved reading these. My favorite is the daily morning coffee also. Mine comes after 45 min. of exercise, getting children ready for school and on the bus, feeding the horses, and then enjoying a latte from my espresso machine while reading the bible. Psalms and Proverbs are a must. Quiet, reflective moments of being thankful are probably the best thing that I can do for myself and my family - makes me a better mom.

I love the quiet of the morning, coffee in hand and in my favorite chair watching an old 1940's movie:)

I go into work an hour early and either diddle of the computer or make diets for the animals. At home there's always something going on or something that requires attention, this way I get total peace

It's really quiet so it's also neat to hear the animals sounds and all the carryon on they do when no one else is around.

Good news is, hubby works at the same place and is also an early riser, so we are able to drive in together and have our "me time" in our own sections

I wake every morning at 5:00 am. The cats are at that time acting as if they haven't eaten since the last millennium so of course I stumble my way to the kitchen and feed them. While I'm there I make a large cup of coffee, I do a quick PC check, yea you know it this forum is the first one I usually go to after checking my email. I then do my Tai Chi and Qi Gong practice/meditation for 30 minutes. And, I absolutely must do some form of needlework every day, right now I'm on a knitting dishclothes kick but after seeing Nancy Jo's embroidery work on her apron I'm inspired to use the patterns I got from Pattern Bee (another site that was highly recommended here) and start my own inspiration pieces.

I don't think of this as pampering, but as absolutely essential to my mental and physical health. Life is good.

I sometimes work 14 hours a day, so each day I take a nice hot bath with mineral salts in it. There I will sit and read for a VERY long time sometimes!

I love tea during the day. I also love checking this website a lot too.

Quilting for about 15 minutes or more each day is also something I do for myself.

In the summer when I am off from teaching, I love to sit outside with the dogs for hours at a time. I will read out there, sew out there or just let them swim around in the river while I do nothing. It's all so good.

My first husband died when we were in our early thirties (I was 31, he was 33). As a former full-time caregiver (we also had two little babies at the time), I have really learned that we have to find a little piece of peace some time during each day.

Loved reading all of your messages here.

Oh, such good ideas. I'm into the morning quiet coffee thing too. I actually worked out flex time in my job schedule so I could sit at my kitchen table and enjoy that first cup of coffee after sunrise (at least in the summer) instead of starting at 7:00 am like everyone else. I often do my Bible study/devotionals then too.

One other thing I do -just for me- is when I get interested in something I will sign up for a class, whether it is a knitting seminar, gardening, or a radio topic, or even something work-related. As my father repeated over and over again, education is something that no one can ever take away from you. Sometimes I even spend travel money to attend these classes.

Right now I need to see if I can find any classes on raising organic apples in an old orchard... LOL- maybe that is too specific!

GARDENING makes me happy. I love digging in the dirt and after Im dirty & sweaty the best is to take a LONG hot shower w/ natural bath products that smell like the garden. Then I lotion up, put on something feminine, make a cup of tea and read. That to me, is a perfect block of time. Love being outside, it's soothing.

Every now and then I buy myself something that I don't normally buy. Such as today, I order myself some Honey Bell Tagarines and grapefruit from Florida. I can't wait to taste them. Usually, though, quiet time with no phone sewing, embroidery, or grooming and training my dogs and talking to them. They "can" keep a secret, you know ; )

My time for "creating" means a lot to me. Whether it be my new addiction, knitting, or soapmaking, painting, drawing, paper art, salvage art. Probably the time when I feel closest to the Lord and most peaceful is through music and gardening. I love it in the summer when I can get up before everyone else and water and play with my flowers and watch the garden grow. Last year we finally got the green house done and I LOVE being in there all alone in the quiet. My fat cat Buster usually joins me and rubs on my legs and rolls on the ground while I work. I also love to watch my chickens in their little world. Once in awhile I treat myself to a spa day and soak in the bath and use my salt scrubs and lotions and paint my toenails red. There was a period of time where I forgot myself and ultimately lost myself. I'll never let that happen again!

A friend of mine recently told me, "you can't pour anything out of an empty vessel". Don't forget to fill yourselves up first so that you have something to give out to others!!

Blessings,

Missy

I read. I always have at least 2 books I'm reading, always one nonfiction (that just started a few years ago) and the other either another nonfiction or a novel. Reading has been my "escape" since I began reading when I was 4.

I also love to journal or write letters. Both reading and writing are my "personal passions".

A bath is a great timeout for me. My ice climbing son Nick has a has a organic bath products business and he has made several bath salt combination just for me - so when we have propane I give my self a gift of a bath with his salts and a book. Soaking these muscles after shoveling is the ticket. My inner pamper is the time I spend at my spinning wheel. I call it my soul strings and this centers my inner thoughts. Mary Beth I know what that is like to be a 24/7 caregiver (I was that for so long before my husband passed) Be kind to yourself when you can. Big Hugs to you ladies and stay warm.

For me there is expensive organic teas (a diffrent flavor each time and I do share with hubby), but I have it down to a science of how to get 2 great cups and 3 good cups from 2 bags. To keep up my strenth, I spend time in prayer and Bible study each day. I try to exersize everyday, but often it is more like 3 days a week. Then there are my "girls". Milking is a great time for reflection, prayer, and singing praises. I cannot wait for freshening next month.
