I love vintage anything, or things with a nod to times past. I have always loved vintage jewelry like pins and beads, vintage purses (like my mom's old evening bags). Last year I found a beautiful, mint condition wool sweater from the 1950's that looked brand new. I wore it all through the holidays with an old vintage pin and a classic circle skirt.

My best friend and I have the same taste and love to go antiquing and poking in thrift shops. Today we found a vintage 1950's curly lamb swing coat with a silk lining, mint condition, literally like-new condition. I ended up getting it (she got first pick last time). Got it for a song! $15! It's beautiful!

Anyone else have a weak spot for vintage wear?

Nicole

You girls are really lucky to be able to wear those dresses. I'm not thin enough any more.

Thanks, Krista. My best friend has great taste, and we are always finding cool things for each other! So funny that that dress fit both of us, considering she's a foot taller than me, lol.

Thank you Nicole! Your dresses look fabulous. I really like your red one! I hope that my trick will help you with your dress. It’s a good secret to have!

PS PeggyAnn, wish I could do my hair like that lady in your Barnes and Noble. The closest I get is with curls ala Veronica Lake. Hard to find anyone here who can do a good midi cut.

PSPS Krista I love your trick! I have a dress that could use a bit of ahem, help. ;)

Hi girls!

My wi-fi has been down for about a week...fun to see this pop up. Krista, I LOVE those dresses! So adorable. Totally something I would wear, too. I did end up wearing that dress I posted, for a Christmas party. Here it is:

Here is another vintage-inspired dress I have, with a vintage apron. I've worn this one for the holidays, at Easter, and other times. I love it - reminds me of Lucille Ball for some reason.

I have no clue what I am doing in that pic or who took it. ??? The shoes are so cute. They are vintage inspired, peep toe platforms. Got them at Payless of all places. You'd never know that they aren't from the forties.

I do have true vintage pieces, and I love to incorporate them in my everyday clothes. Life is too short not to have fun, especially with what we wear!

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

Thank you ladies! I really love these dresses and being able to get all dolled up with them!

Winnie, I had the same problem when I was looking for dresses. My problem is that I am not well endowed and those dresses are designed to be that way. During my process of trying on dresses, the store owner shared her secret with me. She says that there is nothing wrong with a little help from a pair of socks. Her advice was for me to stuff some socks in my bra to help the dress fit correctly. Sure enough, it works! So when I wear those dresses I make sure to use some socks.

Kristi, I actually don’t. I have found a small store who sells new dresses, shoes, purses, etc. that are made to look vintage. They are sewn out of the same thicker material and are designed to last. This store is one of my weaknesses. If you ever head on down this way I would be more than happy to take you there!

I also love vintage, but it's sometimes hard to find beautiful dresses like that around here. And there is that "fit" problem if you order online. Do you thrift for your dresses?

Krista, those dresses are really fun and bright. I love vintage things but have a hard time ever finding anything that fits properly. These dresses seem perfect for upcoming hot weather!

Nicole...there is a gal who is in her mid 30's who works at Barnes and Noble here in Vancouver and she
wears her hair in 1940's styles. She always looks so adorable!! She has a few pieces of Vintage Style
Clothing but more the Accessories than anything. I love the look and always tell her so. I collect vintage
Jewelry myself and I have a Rhinestone Pin that would look Marvelous on that Jacket.

Hugs,
Peggy

Gracie, my mom didn't do hats and handbags like that. She was very much the farmwife and didn't have fancy things. In a way it was kinda sad, but maybe she didn't mind.
She taught herself to crochet after I grew up and went to college, made lots of afghans and some shawls. Fortunately I still have the shawl she made me. I'm thinking it was in our motor home when our house burned down, otherwise I wouldn't still have it!

Wow, Nicole, that is one dress for getting all glammed up! It would be stunning with the accessories you suggested too. I say, invent a reason to use it as it is too pretty to sit in the closet!

Ack! Got booted out before the photo loaded. My best friend who is 6 feet tall and blonde (I'm 5'2 ish), gave me the most beautiful vintage looking dress. It's Calvin Klein, satiny red silk, and she wore it once but can't fit in it. It looks like the 40's...like a glam movie starlet dress. It hit her above the knee, me it fits like a glove but hits below the knee, like a pencil skirt. Don't know if/where I will EVER wear it (need to have a Christmas party to wear it) but can't you just imagine it with an old vintage sparkly broche and peep toe shoes? Love 1940's style. Is it too much to wear to my Master Gardener Graduation, lol? My fave red lipstick just matches perfectly! It's prettier than the photo. It has shoulder straps that twist, a rounded neckline that has a 40's look, and is cherry red.

It looks vintage, but isn't. My best friend is such a doll. She knew I'd love it. Maybe I can wear it sometime. Not sure where, lol.

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

Okay vintage clothes fans: bargain alert! I have long-wanted a 40's or 50's style swimsuit. The ones I have found online are soooooo pricey. I was about to break down and order one but was hoping to find one somewhere else. I HATE HATE HATE bathing suit shopping! Well...headed to TJ Maxx with DD. I found not one, but two, forties-style swimsuits! One is cheery, cherry red with with a strap going around the neck and ties in the back. So bright and cute! The other is a turquoise color with straps on the shoulders. Both are one-piece, with the little skirted boy-short look. I found the two on the rack, went to try them on, and was blissfully happy! No tears in the dressing room, lol. Even the saleslady was shocked when I walked out and said I would take both. "Never happens!" she giggled. Best part: Each one was under $25.00! I won't feel self-conscious walking down the beach in my conservative but glamorous suits. Best part is I have vintage sunglasses to go with both! Now I just need sun...

Let me know if you find vintage suits at the TJ Maxx near you!

Nicole

Hi!

I teach knitting and crochet classes. One of my students gave me a big bag of her mother's pattern books from the 1940s. Oh how I love to look at them! Haven't made anything out of them yet, but fun to look at.

Love the ad.

I can't wait for the kit to get here - purse + vintage + sparkly = one happy Rach! I will post pictures when I'm done, got a feeling my family will be sick of hearing about it by then!
