Over the last few months, I have picked up lbs., dropped lbs, and picked them back up again. And I posted, on my facebook page, recently a picture of me when I was a ballerina. Now, I know at 37, I could never go back to that, but it reminded me that I "used" to feel rather pretty. I've gotten used to being a "bigger" version of me, but I hate photos and I'm sad--because I've missed out on a lot of pics of me and Violet because I "nix" them right away (fat faced Jonni is NOT attractive). My husband thinks I'm beautiful, but he has to say that. I need to be happy with me.

I joined www.loseit.com and set up a goal and am tracking my daily calorie intake. Which is hard, especially when you make your own food most of the time! Have to look at everything, including the spices!

In the past, on the forum, there have been groups to sort of "cheer each other on" but I wasn't sure if anyone had weightloss as a goal this year or no.

Almost forgot - Karen, how are you doing these days? Even if you haven't done anything because LIFE got in the way, check in with us and let us all know what's going on with you. And how are all the rest of you farmgirls doing?
Annie S Posted - Feb 08 2011 : 6:23:11 PM
Teree, how exciting for you. What a nice treat that you and DH are going to S.F. for a nice Valentines Day. Don't worry about over doing it - for something like that I'd eat a pound of chocolate, sourdough bread, and cheesecake and worry about the results later. You have a good time and enjoy yourselves. It's a very special time for just you two.
RoDonna, glad to see you back. Know what you mean about being busy and getting carried away with life. I think we're all waiting for when spring arrives and we can get outside for some fresh air. I'm with you - snow days make me tired too. We just went through another storm over the weekend and DH plowed again! That's his exercise although he sits on a tractor doing the plowing. I'd like to be in better shape by June as well - probably going out to see all the kids/grandkids in Iowa and WI and just want to look better than I have in the past. Told my daughter this weekend that I had started to work out and she was very proud of me (she had studied sports medicine in college and is very athletic). Will be seeing her in March, so would like to look like I've done something before I see her. I ramble - just remember to not beat yourselves up if you indulge and have fun. We all have an excuse with Valentines Day coming up. Hope you all have a wonderful day with the loves in your life. There's always tomorrow, next week, next month. . . whenever you get back to it. Just get back to it when you're ready. Annika, how's your good works coming along? You are such an inspiration to us all. Teree, have a wonderful time in S.F. with DH. RoDonna, spring will be here - some time!!!!

sorry I haven't been on this in a while..a lot happens around here and I get side tracked a lot. When it finally gets warmer I'll be able to excercise out in the garden and there is plenty of space to walk. I have a few DVDs I'm going to start using. I'm with you Annie....I need some fruit. :) Snow days make me tired. We're in a good storm right now. I WILL lose weight before vacation in June. I'll have to find this recipe for you all from an old Weight Watchers book...It's called Hobo Packets...it is so good! Keep up the good work girls! Spring is just around the corner.

Me too...and I haven't exercised in days and I don't want to either!! That being said...I WILL get back to it today because I feel so much better afterwards and sleep better too. I'm with you Annie...you have to let loose sometimes...it's just so hard when you do to get back up on that horse. I have my daughter's 30th birthday Friday and my hubby's taking me to San Francisco for Valentines Day...so wish me luck!!

Ok, I'm being honest here - I over did it on Super Bowl Sunday. Anybody else? So back at it today. No beating myself up about it - it was only one day. Had chips with sour cream instead of Hummus and had more than one glass of wine and a big bowl of Cowboy Beans (yummo). But it's only once a year - like Thanksgiving and Christmas. One of those times when you let loose and have fun with family and friends. Back on my journey today.

Karen and Annika - WAY TO GO LADIES!!!!!!! Awsome job! Keep up the great work and motivation. It's an inspiration to all of us to keep going no matter how much we don't want to some days. Teree - why not black beans? Just kidding!! Will try it with the dates. Going to break down and venture into town to get some food. It's actually +4 degrees instead of -20 which it has been for the past couple of days. I need some fruit!!!!!!! And other staples and DH's chocolate fix stuff. I'm sure to burn a bunch of calories just trying to keep my body warm don't ya think? I'm very proud of all our accomplishments with our own weight stuggles. We are all such inspirations to each other which only keeps us going forward and working harder. You're right Teree - high 5'2 to everyone.

WooHoo! it's been two weeks since I was released from the hospital and on my new lifestyle/diet of lean protein, lots of fruit and vegies and work outs 4 times a week. I've already lost 5 pounds!!!!
I should, at this rate, reach my target weight in about a year and a half I was SO depressed before I joined the gym and couldn't see that I really needed to drastically change my diet and leave behind my gloomy attitude toward weight loss and becoming healthy...so YAY!

I am so proud of you girls for working to better your health and bodies! Doesn't it just feel so good to actually see those pounds coming off???????

That's great Karen!! Are you following a specific diet or exercise program? That has to be a great feeling and a super motivator to see results like that on your scale! Hooray for you!!

Yep Yep Yep...shoveling snow is hard work...especially California snow or should I say cement!! Our snow isn't as dry and fluffy as your snow, but either way it's a back breaking work out for sure...so good for you!! You may have inspired me to hang up all my coats on my tread meal and give it another try!! I am thankful though that its been cold here (31 tonight) because it's easier for me to work out when it's cold especially since I am so out of shape (sometimes I think I can feel my bum on the back of my knees..lol!) I'm hoping the more I do Jillians workout the easier it will get!?!? I also wanted to say to "Sweet Annie"..don't be discouraged by the dates. I don't like them either, but they are an incredible sweetener and in this recipe they bind it all together and add just the right amount of sweetness...but if I think of something else that could work instead, I'll post it (not black beans!) Sweet Dreams everyone!

Good to hear from you Tommie. You're in the same yucky weather system we are - suppose to be -45 degrees tonight up here. So ya, we're hunkered down for the next couple of days too. But here ya about being busy and not getting anything in - just don't beat yourself up - life happens. Like you said, not much else to do but hit the workout routine while cooped up inside anyway while it's cold.
Thanks Teree for the recipe. Hopefully I have everything on hand to whip this little gem up - just don't have the dates (DH and I don't care for them anyway).
After I got done with posting earlier today went out and shoveled the back porch steps and walkway to garage plus the front porch steps. Does that count towards a cardio workout? It better, cause I sure worked hard at it. So didn't do Jillian - hope she's not too upset with me!! HA! HA! But did do a really good treadmill workout before I shoveled - 25 min. and did over a mile. I work up my speed and time by 5's. as well as my cooldown. Works for me anyway.
Ya all have a good night and good day tomorrow.
RawPrairie Posted - Jan 31 2011 : 6:36:31 PM
I found my recipe for "Raw Brownies" and this is so easy and healthy...hope you love it as much as I do!!

1 1/2 cups raw walnuts
Dash of Salt
8 large or 12 small dates (I like medjool)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa or carob powder
1/2 tsp vanilla or cherry extract
2 tsp water (for moister brownie; optional)
1/4 cup chopped dried cherries or chocolate chips (optional)
(I usually don't add this, but its a yummy variation)

Sometimes I set aside 1/4 cup (chopped) of the walnuts to add at the end but not necessary. I put the walnuts in a food processor and process with the S blade until finely ground. Add the dates and process until the mixture sticks together. Add the cocoa powder and vanilla and process until evenly distributed. Add the water, if using and process briefly then add the reserved chopped walnuts, cherries or chocolate chips if using. Pack the mixture firmly into a square container.
Chill for an hour in the fridge (I usually eat one right off!) Will keep for a week in the fridge, or one month in the freezer.

Yes, still around. Had a pretty busy weekend of doing the 'want-to' stuff and left the computer alone for the most part. I haven't been exercising on a regular basis. Shame on me. The weather was SOOOOO nice Saturday I did a few things ourside. Now the weather has turned cold again an it has totally drained my energy and motivation. I will get back to it. Looks like I'll be cooped up in the house for a day or two so exercise is bound to be appealing. If anything, to get warmed up. :)
Keep up the good work ladies!

Terre, you are such a hoot!!!!! I was laughing so hared at your comments about the ballroom dancing and pulling the shades down. You are so funny. And you have the right attitude - your have a down day, so you get back at it the next day.
Tommie, how are you doing? Haven't heard from you for a couple of days.
RoDonna, how are you doing too with your workouts?
I know it's not easy some days to get up and get going, but it's time for yourself and it really makes you feel good. And we have so much fun on this thread sharing and reading what each of us are going through. Somedays are harder than other and then there are the days that make us laugh - like Teree doing ballroom. Is't that great - she's getting a workout and it's fun!!!
Come on everyone, let us know how you're doing and what you're doing - give the rest of us some new ideas. Here's a big cheer for all of us for all our hard work - WHA WHO!!!!!!!!!!

Had a great weekend but I didn't really get in the exercise that I had hoped to do plus I drank wine, espresso's and cake... just over did it!! But tomorrow is a brand new day...fresh with no mistakes in it. I plan to exercise with my buddy Jillian this week and don't laugh but I bought a ballroom dance workout with one of the instructors from dancing with the stars! Fortunately nobody will be watching cause it's hilarious, but a good workout I have to say. I laughed so hard when I was trying to do the jive that I wet my pants...lol! I pull down all the shades, get all dolled up in my new exercise outfits and just have fun!! Sounds like you had a nice time Annie...never heard of a stock show and was intrigued. With all the walking and hauling around your big bags...I'm sure you burned off your meal and then some plus don't you burn more calories when it's cold? I will post the raw brownie recipe tomorrow when I find the exact measurements...I've been making them so long I don't measure but I know I have it written down somewhere...I splurged and made the yummiest chocolate cake out of black beans! My family was afraid to try it at first but then glad they did...lol! It was so moist and delicious...I just wish I had wrote down what I did...it came about because I had no flour!! I'll be talking to ya....sweet dreams!

I have been reading your posts and I'm with you about getting healthy. I'm in my mid-thirties and since I moved out here and had my last child I've gained too much weight. It's hard to get healthy food in the house when there are two other adults who don't like the same thing as me. Besides my husband, my mother in law lives here too. She actually owns the house. I'm excited about spring coming and being able to get some fresh vegetables growing. I went to the doctor last year and she told me when I go to the grocery to stay out of the middle isles and shop the perimeter. I'm going to check out loseit.com, Tommie. Sounds interesting. So I would love to join you girls on your journey. We're going to Mobile, Alabama on vacation in June and if we're hitting the beach I sure don't want to look like this. :)

Teree, you are so cute. So happy you had a great birthday. DH and I went to the stock show with some friends today and boy did I get the workout! Don't have to do any treadmill work tonight. I was carrying my big, heavy purse (bad idea) plus another bag to put all our "freebies" in. Then walking two floor of the convention center for about three hours was a workout in itself. Saw so many wonderfull things, but couldn't really afford to buy anything. DH got some heavy duty mittens made out of buffalo hide and lined with some really warm stuff, but nada for me. I just carried everything like a pack horse. But it was fun and I admit we went to Chile's and DH and I split a dish for lunch before the show. I felt guilty eating the dish, but after all the walking we did I think I walked it off. Slitting a dish wasn't as bad as something else I could have had, although I was going to order a Cob salad before he mentioned splitting a dish. So back at it tomorrow - treadmill and our workout buddy Jillian. And doesn't it make a workout more fun when you have something cute to wear? Just beats sweatpants and an old t-shirt for sure. Hope you have a wonderful weekend too.

I love your posts Annie! You always have something so positive and encouraging to say! I was sooooo sore this morning, it was hard to get out of bed...lol! I did though and I had a lovely Birthday Thank you!! I'm glad you mentioned about muscle weighing more than fat and I will take my measurements and maybe a before and after picture...this is all so exciting! Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a couple more dvd's and some work out gear to keep it fun. I found a cute denim jacket today at a thrift store to proudly wear my "farmgirl sisterhood" patch once I get it embroidered. Have a nice weekend everyone!!

Annie S Posted - Jan 28 2011 : 1:54:16 PM
I'm back!!!!! Forgot to reply to Tommie about how many days to workout. I've always been told that you don't give your muscles a day of rest - you work out 5-6 days a week and then take a day off. Or if it's too much for your - take two days off. And of course there are going to be days when you absolutely can't get a workout into the day, but don't sweat it. No big deal. Don't beat yourself up about it. You get it in when you can. Of course you're going to be sore after working out, but the trick is to not give your muscles a rest, you have to keep pushing them. The soreness goes away once your muscles get use to working out more than they have been over the years. In fact, they'll welcome being used more than they have been. Eventually, they'll be so happy that they grow and make you stronger. Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are building muscle your weight on the scale might go up or stay the same. Don't freak out about it. Also, take some measurements for your arms, bust, waste, hips, upper leg, calves when you first start working out and then in a few months down the road take another measurement and see if there is a difference. The measurements might be the same, but your arm might feel more solid and not floppy, your waist might have shrunk along with your hips and you'll see that your jeans are rather lose. Then give yourself a "wha-who" or a "yippy" and treat yourself to something nice - a bite of some really nice dark chocolate, a bunch of flowers, a mani or pedi, a new pair of jeans (whether from a store or the thrift shop), lunch with a friend at a resturant you like, indulging in having a scoop of ice cream after dinner - just anything special to YOU. Always give yourself a treat of some sort when you hit an accomplishment. It's your reward for doing a smashingly good job. You deserve it!
Annie S Posted - Jan 28 2011 : 1:26:33 PM
Teree, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. The walk around the hills sound like fun and refreshing - anything outdoors. Do jot down how you make those "no bake" brownies. They sounds so good. Made brownies for DH and then a dear friend and her grandkids came over today, so we had tea and brownies - so that's my "goodie" for the day. I probably ate just half 'cause I was giving some to the kids. I broke down and spent some $$ on two Biggest Loser's DVD workouts. They actually use the people from the show, so I feel if they can do it so can I. Changing workout DVD's everyday is a great idea - that way you don't get bored and your body is given a different challenge everyday.
Keep up the good work ladies. Remember, baby steps and we're all in this together.
RawPrairie Posted - Jan 27 2011 : 5:42:20 PM
That's a good question Tommie! I've been doing it everyday, but I remember a couple years back doing a womens boot camp and it was 5 days a week with a weekend break except for walking! She would change it up though everyday so I'm thinking that might not be a bad idea! I think I will continue to exercise everyday but try a different exercise dvd every other day. I was going to take the day off tomorrow for my birthday, but I think instead I will go for a nice long walk around these hills. This is the first birthday in years with no snow. Then I might take Annie's idea and go treat myself to some new work out gear! I have this great recipe for some "raw brownies" and they are really healthy and only take ten minutes to make and no baking! Only walnuts, cocoa, dates and a little vanilla in my food processor! Sounds like a plan. Has anyone been watching the Biggest Loser? I just tuned in and it's pretty motivating in itself. Keep up the good work everyone and I'll be talking to ya!! xoxo

Teree I think your smart, not a wimp. I'm pretty sure I was using 5lb weights. I wouldn't recommend it. I'll tell you what though, I feel it today and its throughout my body...bicepts, pecks, abs, butt, thighs..you name it, I feel it.
So here's a 30 day shred question. Do you do it every day or every other day? I was always told your muscles need a day of rest. But the contestants on Biggest Loser don't get a day of rest so I think I can do it everyday?
