Posted - Jun 14 2010 : 9:35:20 PM A new blog post is up and I figure that most of you will laugh at me because you are probably so much more well-versed on the subject. However, I can laugh at me too! Sure would appreciate your comments which you can add at the bottom of the post. Words of wisdom anyone? www.oklahomapastrycloth.com/blog

Posted - Jun 16 2010 : 07:25:40 AM Lyn, Thank you very much. If you all are ever inclined, you can send me your stories or recipes and I'll put them on there too. There's a link to the email on the Blog Welcome Page. I think that we all have an "inner" writer! :-)

Posted - Jun 16 2010 : 07:23:31 AM Dionne, I'm right there with you. I'd like a goat and some chickens too! I'm not sure I could handle a whole cow. My sister raised goats and made the best goat cheese. They are more my short size! And I'd love to have some fresh eggs in the morning. You go, girl! Mary Beth

Posted - Jun 15 2010 : 9:54:36 PM You are much more bold than you give yourself credit for! Maybe I'll get that bold and attempt to milk a cow. My husband is still trying to wrap his brain around my last email as I tried to explain that maybe we should get enough land to keep a goat and some chickens! His response was 'who are you and what have you done with my wife?!'

Posted - Jun 15 2010 : 09:46:56 AM Thanks for the kind words. It's nice to know that somebody read it and enjoyed it. Sometimes I feel like I'm just writing to the air!! :-) I'm satisfying the inner "writer" in me since I'm too old to have an inner "child". :-)

Posted - Jun 15 2010 : 05:03:32 AM I used the book, "Cheese Making Made Easy" from the New England Cheesemaking Company and it says to age it 3 months to 12 months, depending on how sharp you want it to be. I have half a mind to write to them and say, "Easy? Are you kidding??!!" Cheesemaking is not easy. It is very labor intensive and after being chained to it for hours and hours, realizing that two gallons of milk only gives back one lb of cheese and discovering that I had to wait at least 3 months to even try it, I decided that the pioneers must have REALLY treasured their cheese!! However, I am not deterred and I plan on making mozarella next. Parmesan would be cool too!!

Posted - Jun 14 2010 : 11:01:56 PM What a great story. Very adventurous of you. And the cow looked very content while you milked her. Now how long will you have to age the cheese? I have not attempted cheddar yet.
