Posted - Apr 06 2006 : 2:36:27 PM If someone gave you $500 to spend, and you HAD TO SPEND it, not save it, what would you buy?
I would buy new roofing materials for the workshop, a new shower curtain, curtains, towels, rug for my bathroom, ahhhhh, $500 goes fast!

Posted - Apr 09 2006 : 5:10:08 PM If I had $500 to blow anyway I wanted to I would buy a plane ticket to Montana to see a friend I have not seen in several years. Or go on a road trip to Charlottesville, VA, I have been wanting to go back since moving 12 years ago from there. For sure it would be spent on some kind of travel!

Posted - Apr 09 2006 : 06:18:28 AM Hey City Cat-herine!
You might consider a reconditioned KitchenAid mixer. You can get them from small appliance repair shops or Amazon.com.
I already have one but my mother has always wanted one and would not spend the money. My friend Mary has steadily updated from the smallest to the largest. She had one she was ready to get rid of. I offered to buy it but she said, "well, sometimes it growls. I'll just give it to you." I insisted on paying her ten dollars for it. All it needed was a new sealed bearing thingy! I paid $60.00 for the repair and it is like new. Not only that, it came with an extra bowl, two lids for the bowls, and a pour shield. All those extra parts are pretty expensive all on their own.
If you keep your eyes peeled, you can set yourself right up. The part I put into mary's/mom's mixer was the main and most expensive part so you really can't go wrong with a fixer upper!

Posted - Apr 08 2006 : 01:47:19 AM A free and clear $500 huh? Hm. First impulse would be to purchase a KitchenAid stand mixer. I've been borrowing my neighbour's, and I'm hooked bad. I don't think I can do without one when Christmas baking comes around!
The next thought is to put it toward visiting a dear, dear friend in California. I haven't seen her in YEARS and really miss her. I've been contemplating visiting her, but money is tight...
Practically though, I'd put it toward my car. There are a few repairs I've been putting off cuz I don't have the money. -Cat |

Posted - Apr 07 2006 : 06:47:48 AM I'd put it in a bank account and offer my youngest sister a deal: This all goes towards a car for you if you graduate from high school and don't get pregnant.
Sad that I can't do that in real life. I'm not much of an example of what staying in school and being a good girl is supposed to get you. |

Posted - Apr 07 2006 : 06:20:22 AM I can related to everyone else. It is just to hard to decide. We could spend it on the house, the farm, on the kids, on the cars, on a vacation. There are just to many options. This very instance I would have to say save it for the roof, but then you said that we had to spend it. So I would have to say I would use it to pay ahead on some bills. Property taxes & insurance are coming up. By paying them early it is less we would have come up with later, and in the end help with the roof. We have got to get a new roof, even if nothing else gets done this summer.

Posted - Apr 07 2006 : 05:46:16 AM Oh my! I can't decide.
A few weeks ago I would have automatically said books. But, I'm trying to break my addiction.....over 2000 in the house.
Today, the responsible part of me would pay off the orthodontist.
The logical part of me would buy my girls some shoes and clothes.
The fun part of me would pack up the car and take a road trip with my girls.....leaving Daddy behind at work......just a girls trip!! Yep, if someone handed me $500 today, we'd head to state and national parks for hiking and make a special trip to see Natural Bridge Caverns.
Blessings Catherine

Posted - Apr 07 2006 : 05:23:25 AM Books. Lots of books. I'd prepay on MJ's next book and then get some of the cookbooks that have been mentioned on this forum. And a few other books that I've come across recently all related to this lifestyle. The I'd start to feel guilty about not using the money for more important things so then I'd probably just narrow it down to prepaying MJ's next book and buying one other book so I'd have something in hand-NOW. I can still dream. |
