I posted this on my blog and thought to share it with y'all here too

(this was yesterday my first day)
WOW…..just wow….never ever knew being a mail carrier was this nice, lol. Now let me get it straight: I know I said that about my previous job too, after the first day lol. But that is different, I never was “into” it, not really. BUT it was a job and that was oke. Thought to earn money and then still look for a new job while working there. But the payment is still not in. They are having legal problems that we all hope will work out good for us.

Anyways, about my new job as a mail carrier in my village. The day started out with a HEAVY rain, it was pouring – yikes. The lady whit is helping me get through the first 2 day, training if you like to call it that, could not come in the morning so we left after 3 o’clock in the afternoon. By then it was dry, PTL!! We went to pick up the mail (it will be delivered to my house from tomorrow, YAY!) and started to load it on my bike. MAN was that ever so heavy!! Two BIG special mail bags on the back of my bike, a small bag on the front AND a big mail bag around my neck DUH!!! And they were H E A V Y !! Let me tell you I never knew HOW heavy a mailbag was, but now I know, lol.

Anyways…..We went about our route, on the bike, get off and put mail in the mailbox, on the bike, get off, on the bike, get off etc etc etc…. As far as I know I only made 1 (ONE) mistake so that was not bad IMO lol. You really have to find your balance on the bike being so heavy And sometimes it started to drizzle a tiny bit but that was gone in a few minutes so all in all we had a dry day YAY!!. And one very big plus: THE BIKE GETS LIGHTER with every mail drop LOL!!

No “nasty biting” dogs on my route either yippee just a barking one One unpleasant thing happened in my own street but I have decided to try and get past that. It was with a neighbor I told about in some time ago. But for the best part people were very friendly and inquiring if I would be their new mail person, and they welcomed me and wished me success

And this was today:

Today was an earlier delivery because I started at 11 o’clock. And from tomorrow I will be on my own YIKES!! I will try to start the delivery around 12 each day. That way I will have a regular routine AND the people will have their mail in time. PLUS I will have the rest of the day off too YAY!! The sun was out, and it was an "easy delivery"today. No extra things to carry so that was good. Tomorrow will be my first day of delivering it all by myself, lol. AND an extra heavy load because we also deliver "junk mail" twice a week YIKES! SO extra strength is needed tomorrow lol

A few benefits on this job

1) I will get a tan in summer without sitting in the blazing sun (if the sun shines ;) )

2) My condition will improve due to the heavy bike AND riding it

3) You meet many nice peeps along the way

4) I will be getting payed ON TIME!!!!

So yes, I am a “happy camper” lol

Still love it, lol. As a matter of fact, I start to like it better every day YAY! The weather here is perfect, nice warm and sunshine all day. So I realize it might only get worse, weather wise. But even THAT doesn't make me like it less. You meet so many nice people this way. Most make a small chat when they are outside in the garden or even when I bike past.
Yesterday I was delivering again and suddenly I heard out of the blue "HELLO MAILLADY" !! I was looking around, didn't see anyone. But suddenly, out of a top window, I saw a face with a big smile. Just someone I never saw before greeted me! SO nice :)
And children in a street where I deliver greet me, and they want to take their mail from me so I don't have to walk to their house, too sweet.
Yup I love it, every single day :) And I get faster too. In the beginning it took me more than 2 1/2 hrs to do the round and now less then 2. And that gets faster every day. So I think in a week I am up to 1 and a half hours every day. With the junk mail a little longer but still, close to the 1 1/2 hrs YAY

I was talking to one of my supervisors today. He came with his car to give me a form i have to complete for my uniform. He wanted to know how it went and I told him. He was pleased :-) He wants tocome by to my house one day and give me the uniform and a "degree" that I passed my trial period YAY! Will get a little prezzie too, just a key cord but still so nice. We also have a "bike plan"a way to get a very good sturdy bike for 20% off. It is a very pretty bike, so who knows......

Lol Alee, the first 2 days were the worst!! Leg cramps are terrible AUCH!!!!! But now doing fine. No this will not be enough income on it's own, but thankfully I will be compensated by SS for the rest. So then i will have a sort of reasonable, living very frugally income. I can survive on that, as long as they pay me on time every month, lol. IF not.....but this is a, what you might call a "state" co. so they are bound to be on time, right??

Yup, guess I need to stock up on good solid food lol. I DO eat better since working here. I eat a warm meal more days of the week then in the 2 1/2 since living alone :)

Dutchy- You always inspire me to get out there and ride my bike!! Does this job provide you with enough income even though is is only a few hours a day? Make sure you are eating lots of potassium to help with those leg cramps!!

HI Marian,
Congratulations on your new job. I had no idea delivering mail would be so much fun. The biclycle riding sounds great though. Do you feel like you've been through boot camp? I would. You have me wondering now just how far I could really ride now. I haven't been a bike for years. Congrats on little Pinky too.

Happy Birthday! That's very interesting about you and the English. You use it like a native (although a European one, not American!) and I was wondering how you came to be such an English speaker in the Netherlands. I wish I had a gift for languages, but I've never had one "take." I always have to go through a long translating process in my head and I get so flustered trying to have a conversation that way.

I'm so glad you like your new job. I always wanted to be a mail carrier. It's a hard job to get in the US. In my neighborhood, they drive large amounts of mail from the central processing location in little jeeps, and then park and walk up and down each street. I'm amazed that you can carry your whole village's mail on a bike.

Lol Debbie....yes I DO sing while biking :) AND my leg muscles are getting a wonderful work out indeed, and they needed it too! When mom was alive (she passed away over 2 years ago) she was in a wheelchair for the last 3 or 4 years. So I worked up a lot of strong muscles, both my legs and arms. But since she passed.......I needed to push the wheelchair across bridges, on small side walks, trying to keep it upright etc. ect. And mom was also bed ridden later most of the time so yes, my muscles were very strong, lol. And now they will be again YAY!! And in a more "fun" way too, lol.

Oh what a picture you paint of your new job. I can see you riding that bike with the wind blowing your tresses behind you and you whistling while you pedal along...lol...
Do you wear a uniform? I bet after a while you'll know everyone's business by what type of mail they get....lol....I bet your leg muscles are getting a work out too...aren't they?

Good luck...so happy for you!

Dutchy, I'm so glad you like your job delivering mail. My son and daughter-in-law are rural carriers, DIL only part-time to start, so she works different routes. Rain is not bad if you are prepared. I couldn't imagine riding a bicycle on some of the routes here in the Tri-Cities. The longest one is 98 miles. The one I attempted to deliver had 500 customers and was 50 miles. Very rural.

How many customers do you have?

Suzan I also have an English blog (link in my siggy line)

I have always been fascinated by the English language, to be honest as long as I can remember I have a sort of antenna on my head, lol. Whenever I hear somebody talking English my radar pops up, ^--^.
From when I was a little girl of about 6, I always told my mom: When I grow up I want to live in America. I didn't even KNOW where is was, lol. But somehow it has become my biggest hobby and I only read English books and mags, I think, talk, read, sometimes even dream in English DUH!! It IS my 2nd language but often it feels like my primary one.
Silly and strange I know :)

Your new job sounds great, hard work, but worth it. Has Elvis shown up yet? My kitties used to disappear for days, sometimes weeks , when we lived where they could be outside. It's not safe here, so they are all prisoners...don't lose hope, he may show up yet.

Beverly, officially it should take about an hour and a half, maybe longer if I have "junk mail days" too. Then it takes about 2 hours. SO not bad at all. lol. But this being my first week, it will take a little longer than that. But I don't mind at all. The sun is out today, NO junk mail so maybe I will be home early, YAY! Time to spend crafting this PM. Tomorrow is my birthday I am making a few party favors to give tomy friends that come for coffee and cake ;)

OH AND TODAY MY BIG BROTHER TURNS 57 YAY!!!! He is 5 yrs and one day older then me, lol (off topic I know ;) )
