I was just wondering what do the farmgirls feel about Tarot cards?

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

I've known Wiccans who preferred not to work with Tarot, some get guidence thru dreams, others thru observing nature around them. There's no real "standard" & the options for divination methods are huge, esp these days. Autumn Equinox is coming up,one of my favorite days! (I loooove fall!)

I also had a Wiccan friend.

Read a few books about this too.....just to see what that was all about and mostly to keep up and know what she was referring to.

And she was always willing to answer my questions.

Every Halloween I think of her. It's the Wiccan New Year.

SHE was lots of fun. Once a month we went on day long shopping forays. Along the way we would stop at a Wiccan store. I always felt kind of weird, but I do burn incense 'cause the regular store bought air freshners smell too fake and perfumey.

This frined sadly got a divorce from her hubby 2 years ago, and she is in another state, but not so far away that she can't visit. And she does.

I don't think she was into Tarot cards though.

No, sadly I was forced to leave the state very quickly due to my abusive X. So I left behind a wonderful friend and an awesome job.

I saw my friend about 2 years later.....we picked back up where we left off. She had turned vegitarian.....so what --- still didn't change anything. I'll just forever be grateful to her for providig a port in the storm.

Then she moved again, we corresponded and sent a few e-mails back and forth and then we parted company.

I NEED to see if she is connected to Facebook now.

I still have her web address and pop a quick note off every now and again. Pity we live on opposite coasts now. But the door will always be open.

This has been an active topic, I can't believe how foolish some people are. Anna you seem like my kind of friend did you move away from your Athiest friend? Or am I reading this wrong and she left because of your beliefs? I'm going to start another topic ???ing's one's beliefs on the other side, I'm just not sure how to start it or if it will be allowed.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Thanks for the info

So sorry other peple's "friends" and neighbors have cause such turmoil.

Seems like in this era of "tolerance" there really is none.

What about plain 'ole loving kindness, no matter what. Then we wouldn't NEED political correctness and "tolerance". What a load of bull.

One of my very best friends was a self proclaimes Athiest. You might not think an Athiest and Christian could ever be friends or find much in common. But you know what? We cared deeply about our friendship. It bothered me sometimes, but never enough to want to drive a wedge between us.

When I started having marital problems, she came and asked one day if everything was ok. Then a very short time later I used her home as a safe house. (her suggestion) I'll FOREVER be grateful and I still miss this person like a sister.

The extremists out there wreck it for all concerned, no matter their faith, or culture or whatever. And for people to judge, no mater what side of the fence they stand is still wrong.

The only time I judge will be if I have been severely wronged and am tired of getting burned. It gets old, and a body eventually gets weary of being !@#$ on no matter how many times a cheek is turned.

Jesus eventually had had enough too and even then turned over changing tables in the temple.

Annab,in readings for myself,if anything fortelling an unpleasant situation comes up,it enables me to do one of two options,or both. First is do your best to go around it rather than thru it,but if it happens anyhow then you're more prepared to deal with it. I don't run to the deck all the time-only if the urge hits me. On a day to day use I go to "The Way of Cartouche" cards and have found them to be extremely helpful.
I know my being "new age" got the next door neighbors so uptight that I was dealing with verbal insults from them for awhile. It's wierd how a spiritual path can make some people (my neighbors being implied here & no one else) quite arrogant and they feel quite justified in telling you what they make of your choice of a spiritual path. Finally the only way to come to a peaceful situation was to let them know they are not welcome here nor do we want any contact with them-no chit chat, emails,or phone calls. Sad to go to such an extreme, but at least I don't have to deal with hearing about how "non spiritual" I am or other really insulting & demeaning questions from them.

Elizabeth

After your cards were read and the stuff in your life started to come true, did you recall the reading right away?

Did it freak you out or was it an ah-ha! kind of thing?

Anyone who gets this done,,,,do you take steps to try and prevent the bad, or does it end up happening anyway

Oh Lisa- that is so sad that your friend acted that way. I honestly can't comprehend people treating so called friends in such a manner. I guess that is why I love the farmgirls so much. I know we don't always agree, but we still stay loving and supportive! Nora was watching "Bambi" earlier today. I think your ex? friend needs to take a lesson from Thumper!

I've never used Tarot Cards but I have an "Animal Messengers" deck that I look at sometimes when I've had an unusual encounter with an animal. sometimes it seems to have significance and sometimes not. The one thing I refuse to do is try to ascertain the future using these cards. I just feel that it's wrong. but I do have a strong interest in animal spirits and what they mean to Native Americans. If people say that makes me un-Christian, I remind them that Jesus was a Jew. I believe there's room for all faiths, even those I don't agree with. If you don't agree with someone else's faith, do what's necessary to protect yourself and leave them alone. Leave them to God. He can handle them better than you can anyway.

I've wanted to reply to this thread for a while but didn't quite dare to. It seems to be a very volatile subject. But this is my experience with Tarot cards. I purchased a deck quite a few years ago and I only read for myself. I found the experience peaceful and meditative. I was going through a rough time and couldn't quite find myself. My opinion (and it's only my opinion!) is that Tarot cards are only pieces of paper, their meanings are hinted at and made up by other humans, not demons or gods, just people. The answers and information garnered are your own interpretations and are generally on target because they are answers that you knew all along, you just didn't know you knew, you know :). Meditation is a path to the soul, if your soul is full of love and peace, your path will be also. If your soul is full of doubt and discord, you path will be also. So, it probably is true that tarot could stir up emotions and feelings of evil. But, having been made aware of it, you should find the source and change it. And keep changing until your path is clear. Again, this is just my opinion.

While I was figuring this out for myself, a very dear friend of mine found out that I was reading and if she could have set fire to my house, she would have. She "outed" me to anyone who would listen as a devil worshipper and a witch. Of which I am neither. She refused to talk to me about it and I was devastated. It has been 7 years and I am still so hurt. I threw away my cards and I stopped looking within becuase it seemed to only bring me sorrow. I'm glad this thread was started, because though I probably won't start reading again, I think I do need to start some sort of meditative routine.

Thanks for reading my long, blah, blah account! And please don't judge anyone else, for "Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble (1 John 2:9-10)."

I'm sorry to hear about the negative experiences, and really hope it all goes well. I do have a deck, and they are lovely. It emphasizes the psychological more than any sort of spiritual stuff, which is a more comfortable angle for me. But, aside from coming to this thread, I don't really talk about them or even tell anyone I have them. I got some weird looks last year when someone said they wished they could get some to use as props in a haunted house, and I offered mine. 00 I guess a lot of people are just not as accepting/understanding of different ways of looking at life. Personally, I find looking at things from many different angles very interesting.

I only read them once in awhile, and they are spot on. But I see it as a way of getting to my own thoughts/feelings that I don't always recognize on the surface. I've peeked in on problems friends had (without their knowing) and found that it helped me be a more thoughtful friend when they asked advice, but I never mentioned that I had a deck...

As to creepy things about the house, maybe it was your mindset? I have learned that when something doesn't feel right, best to get out or change the situation, good advice whether it's physical or just getting the willies. I'm glad you are taking steps to bless your home. It will make things feel better for you, and don't we all need to feel comfortable in our home? When I was growing up, we moved into a new (to us) home and had it blessed. Really cool ceremony. I'm all for whatever makes people feel comfortable. I'm glad you got rid of the cards, since they seemed to bother you. Hope all goes well. And I ditto the sentiments about this forum being such a great place to be whoever we are and share all sorts of ideas. Awesome farmgirls! Where else do you get this kind of connection and acceptance with so many different people. The best!

We make a difference.

Sherrie, there's a "Witchy FarmGirls" thread that I finally had to unsubscribe from because it was absorbing too much of my time -- there were something like ten updates on it every day! When I last checked, it was 31 pages long! One or two farmgirls have visited the thread to shake things up a little, but only a little. They were treated firmly but with respect, and there was no visible harm done. Well, you know? Wow. Nice.

prairie princess,It makes me feel good that I can be here among different types of personalities & paths, and tho we will not agree on everything,we can air our views without fear of being shut out or banished,so to speak. I love this farm girl spirit that we have going, and I've learned a lot from people of various paths.

i consider myself very open-minded. i have no problems with anything that helps people in their own journey. i have wiccan, native american, buddhist, and christian friends and i LOVE surrounding myself with many different belief systems. since i have not found my own path as of yet, i always find it interesting to see and observe what works for others in my life.

i had a tarot reading performed in new orleans and i must say, much of what was said did happen! i have had some things work for me and other things that have not worked for me... but i like to try everything. i have a deck of "osho transformation tarot" cards, but havn't tried them yet (i don't think they are the standard tarot, but still, something interesting to try!)

like many of you, i LOVE that we are all so different! i like that i am surrounded by many types of unique souls on this message board just as i am in my everyday life...

I also can add to that and say if you don't really feel comfortable with the subject or feel threatened by it or it makes you uneasy, why not just leave that topic alone. Don't answer it if its just not your cup of tea? I honestly feel that is where alot of the trouble starts. For example I am not comfortable about hearing how animals are slaugthered or chickens are killed etc. so I just don't go there. I know it is necessary and has to be done and is done but I just don't want to hear about it. Thank God some are not bothered by it or I'd never eat! LOL. See what I mean though, if you know you can't answer a topic and be open minded or tolerant of anothers beliefs or opinions why put yourself and others through it? Make sense to anyone but me?

Why is it that when anyone does not agree with something, they are said to be un Jesus like? If there is something a Christian is instructed to have nothing to do with, ie. Duet. 18:9 - 13, why is it so important for others to encourage them to do it anyway? If someone is asked for an opinion, why say they are intolerant if they don't have the same view as the asker? Hummmm

Hi, Jennifer :-) It's nice of you to be open-minded. If only everyone were, the world would be much more like what Jesus wanted people to work toward. I'll just add to your comment that anything used with negative intention can be dangerous.

Rosemary,'

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this post.

I'll check out the book.

Have also done some reading about Wicca. Totally different than what we speak of here, but interesting just the same

Like I said, I'm Christian, but like to read about stuff like this. To arm myself, to see what others know from their perspective and, mostly out of pure curiosity.

It's kind of hard to form an opinion about something if you haven't any clue about it!

I was raised around them so they have never bothered me-my great grandmother and my mom were card readers in life. I've read the cards for myself & others since I was 19 but haven't read for others in quite a while. I have many decks but my fave right now is the "Druid Craft" Tarot. I think the Universe has many ways & paths of working thru us all according to what we feel most comfy with-what feels "personally right" to us in a spiritual sense. It does sadden me when I hear or read comments of "tarot is evil" & so on as I feel there's a real lack of tolerance present. As you've read that last sentence, please understand I don't want to start a debate with anyone, and I refuse to engage in any on this topic,as this is one of those topics that each has their opinion and no ones mind will be changed on either side of the fence. To each their own,and blessings & peace to all. :-)

Beth, is that similar to the "Touched by a Horse" deck? There are so many beautiful ways to tap into the parts of our minds that allow us to see ourselves and the situations around us more clearly. Sometimes just sitting still in a favorite room, or garden, or church or wherever you feel calm and safe, is all you need, but I do find that tarot cards or something like your horse cards, Kathryn's Medicine cards or something similar can give us the focus we need to turn special moments like that from mere day-dreaming to something of real spiritual value. Hey -- not that I'm knocking day-dreaming! :-)

I don't actually have Tarot Cards but I have some "Spirit of the Horse" cards. They are similar to Tarot but not the same. I use them to give me clarity of a situation not to predict the future. They are beautiful and although I have tried several other decks of Tarot cards these are the ones that call to me. It is nice to have a forum where differing opinions can be stated. I have not been a farmgirl long but it has changed the way I think about myself and find it refreshing to hear different opinions offered.
