Posted - Mar 04 2009 : 10:44:45 PM MaryJane, How cute is that!!!! I could see it being used in a little apartment in the late 1800's when furniture had to do double duty...thus a stand/sink...I to would love to know what that cute littles story is.

Posted - Mar 04 2009 : 9:12:56 PM It reminds me of a sink/cupboard from a ship that I saw in antique store many years ago. The one I saw was narrower, taller, but had doors that opened to reveal a little sink with a spigot and faucets. I didn't pay too much attention to it at the time, beyond thinking that it was quite the cool item. I've never seen one like yours, it is very sweet.

Posted - Mar 04 2009 : 3:51:07 PM I remember seeing something similar on Antiques Roadshow. They said it was used in the better hotels and probably held a 'Thunder Mug' (empty) below. Maybe??? If only it could talk. Your is in beautiful condition too. MB

Posted - Mar 04 2009 : 11:03:38 AM What a wonderful little find! I bet that is pretty rare, too. I remember reading that pioneers, who had a few nicer things, would take them along on the wagons heading West. MAybe that is how it ended up in California! Wouldn't you love to know? Most of all, it is nice to see what a wonderful home it has found now! Thanks for sharing that!
Oh, and I also saw one once that was a potty, too. In fact, as a child my grandmother had a wooden chamber potty in her bedrooms, because she still had an outhouse. When it was closed, it looked much the same.
