Posted - Dec 21 2005 : 06:51:49 AM i sometimes think of names and how sometimes people just seem to 'fit' their name .. and how others don't .. i think 'nick-names' sometimes just seem more 'us' than our birth name. I also listen closely for olde timey names for my rag dolls. (if you are a doll maker .. it's fun to 'collect names' in a little address book that is alphabetized. When you learn of one that you really like .. just record it in your 'name book' .. and when the time comes for a dolly to be 'christened' .. roam through looking for a name 'combination' (you can even do one of interesting LAST names too!)
well, anyhoo .. what NAMES are on your birthcertificate? Were you named 'after' someone .. is there a 'story' behind your name? Would love some names for my 'dolly name book'!
I was born: FRANCES CATHERINE STEVENS
Frances, so i am told is after the 'doctor' (Dr. Francis Warren) who delivered me .. i PREFER to think i was named after my dear aunt, "Frances Elizabeth" the eldest sister in my dad's family of 9 children.
Catherine is after my grandmother on my dad's side: Sarah Catherine .. it is a name that seems to come up every other generation. Sarah Catherine was my grammie .. i am Frances Catherine .. and i got to give the name Catherine to my granddaughter, Jennifer Catherine.
Let's hear YOUR names and how you got 'em! xo, frannie
p.s. Frannie is the name my school friends gave me.

Posted - Feb 26 2006 : 1:05:52 PM Just came back from the Urgent Care, Beth, now that you mention it. I have a severe case of bronchitis on it's way to being pneumonia, so no, no candle burning for this kid for a couple of weeks. Yesterday, I HAD to do a fundraiser for the animal shelter as all the publicity and stuff was gone out and I could hardly talk. Last Thursday, after working a short day on the set, I went to the urgent care because my doctor wasn't available and the doc said I had severe bronchitis and gave me a Z-pack of anti-biotics and cough medicine. Well, don'tcha know it only got worse, so I went again today and he said go home, go directly home, do not pass go, do not collect $200, and do NOTHING for a couple of weeks and if it doesn't get better by Friday, come back for another X-Ray to make sure it doesn't turn into pneumonia. So I had to cancel a lot of things. I hate this. I'm not good at doing nothing. (see, I'm on the chat, heh heh. Don't tell the doc) OK, going to rest now. And blue light myself. And let Stuie take care of me. I'm so lucky to have him. Again, I say, the readings will get done eventually. Sigh.

Posted - Feb 18 2006 : 6:50:46 PM My name is Jana Dorthea. My mother wanted to name me Julie but my dad wanted me to have a Danish name and so Jana was picked. My mother's first name was Dorothea, as was my grandmother's (dad's mom) middle name. I don't know how mine had the second "o" deleted, but I think there was a discussion even on my baptism day, as on the hand written certificate there is a little space left between the "r" and the "t" in Dorthea. But, alas, I was baptised Jana Dorthea Lund. Jana was pronounced YAHnah, but later Americanized to JAYnah.

Posted - Feb 18 2006 : 6:42:07 PM How interesting it is to find one's "calling" or how your life feels like it was meant to be. I am still exploring, but at least now I know that I'm living in the right place. My 130-yr-old farmhouse was built by my great-great-grandfater for his 2 Danish wives (yeah, 2 - I don't know what to say...), and it was dedicated to the Lord back then...Very interesting history, but the house has such a good feel to it - I am never scared here or nervous.
Patricia - take good care of yourself.

Posted - Feb 17 2006 : 1:31:03 PM Patricia- I have FM as well and I totally know what you mean about getting to the point of crashing. I have really tried to listen to my body these days and know when I need to stop and have a day of rest, but sometimes life just doesn't allow it. I'll be praying that you bounce back quickly. I know I have gotten so exhausted that I felt I could literally drop. The cold weather does make it rough as well.
Take care of yourself!!
Blessings,
Missy

Posted - Feb 17 2006 : 1:18:17 PM Beth, truthfully, yes I did know, though I didn't know exactly. If you look at my reading ( har har) you see that I have a gift for performing and the arts, especially words) so I've always had the leads in plays in school and honors in writing. I had a scholarship in voice to music college which I gave up to get married (we call that "the big mistake" in our family). So acting, reporting, writing and even ministry come very naturally (I have the spirituality vibration very strongly, too) Ministers have to be performers, too, believe it or not. So I always knew my life would involve the arts and be dedicated to service God.

Posted - Feb 17 2006 : 09:27:43 AM Libbie, I believe everyone has a calling in life, whether to be a peacemaker, to the helping professions such as teaching, law, medicine, to make bread, to raise children. When you are doing what you came here to do, you will always do it well and nothing else will satisfy you, even though you may also do other things well. I'm here to minister to people and animals. I can't tell you how much your words mean to me. Thank you for taking the time to tell them to me.
Stu and I spent 15 hours on the Everwood set yesterday and I'm fried. The town they use for Everwood is in Ogden, a 45 minute drive from SLC. We had the biggest snowstorm of the season Wednesday night and the roads early in the AM were bad, but we went. We only did 3 scenes, but they were outdoors in 19 degree weather. It was especially hard after dark, but it was hard for everybody, not just us - crew, principals, craft service, everybody. We didn't finish until 11:30 pm and by that time, my fibro was so bad I could hardly move. Stuie was holding me up as we walked. I hope you guys see this episode because it was funny. I must have looked drunk. So today I have to do a lot of resting. This was a very busy week, with little time to rest, which is not good. I'm participating in a fibro study and our first therapy session was Tuesday (and I had to teach a class Tuesday night!) and one of the things we're learning is how to know when your pain gets to that point of no return when you have to just crash (you gals with FM know what I mean) Then you can head it off. Well, I guess I flunked that his week, but there's always next week!
For those who are interested in how TV and movies wowrk, being an extra is harder than it looks. I've done it for 13 years in L.A., in addition to featured roles, stand in work, and photo doubling (Kathy Bates for one) and roles with lines. You really have to know what you're doing and how a tv or movie set works. If anybody has any questions about TV or the movies or particular shows or people, I'll be glad to answer them. It's an interesting job and I have some interesting and funny stories.
Again, ladies, thank you for understanding and for the kind words. Making a living has to come first, unfortunately.
Love you all, Patricia

Posted - Feb 16 2006 : 3:19:45 PM My little lambs are all named for movie characters that inspired me:
"Shelby" (born in 1993) was one of the main characters in "Steel Magnolias". "Brendan" (born in 1999) is for actor Brendan Frazer who starred in "Blast from the Past", in which his character had the same name as my son's father! "Fiona" (born in 2004) was the main character in an Irish movie called "The Secret of Roan Inish" and is an old gaelic name.
These names really seem to suit my kids, although the oldest is at that stage where she hates her name (I remember those days of junior high!). I have nicknames for the kids anyway, like My Little Peach or Sweet Pea. ![](icons/icon_smile_kisses.gif)

Posted - Feb 16 2006 : 07:46:46 AM Just sent you an email- thanks! I have a pet question- We recently got a 2 1/2 yr old St Bernard from a breeder and the day we brought her home she ran in a corner and literally cried. My daughter has become her everything and the 2 are inseperable. I just want to know why she is so sad, what life was like before we got her and if she is happy. She's very emotional and is lost when my daughter is not there. blessings beth

Posted - Feb 15 2006 : 4:05:04 PM Beth, I have your info. I'll send you my phone number and we'll set up an appointment.
Well, girls, we mostly do extra work, but I've done some day player stuff with lines. I did a season on "Chicago Hope" as a nurse, a lot of "ER", had a featured part on "Murphy Brown" (Murphy and I got physical over a toy for our kids at a toy store. That was fun), had lines in a Bruce Willis movie, Seinfeld, and a whole bunch of others I can't think of now. I've been doing it for 15 years. My daughter Chrissy is 30 but looks 16 and has been acting since she was 18, playing a lot of kid roles. she was a teenager who jumped off a bridge into a river on Chicago Hope and I was one of the nurses in the ER trying to revive her. It was hysterical. She did a lot of Buffy, 90210, Party of Five, and like that.
This week, Stu and I are patients in the hospital. I never saw "Everwood" so I have no clue as to what it's about. Chrisy is a nurse this week and her fiance, Jason, is a stand in for one of the young men. I had a nice featured bit monday in the waiting room of the hospital.
Kay, we're working tomorrow, too, so I'll check the call sheet and get the name of the episode. There's about 6 more episodes of Everwood to do to wrap the season and then nobody knows what will happen to the show because the WB is folding, so we'll see.
thanks for your patience, Ladies.
Love, P

Posted - Feb 15 2006 : 10:26:20 AM I worked in a call center (inbound - for anyone who thinks I might have been annoying you) and I used to collect names for the children's stories I was writing.
Two of my favorites were:
Virginia Raspberry (who lived in a town called "Peapick") Ollie (short for Olivia) Clatterbuck
Those too names just set my imagination in motion.
Mine is not so lyrical, Lucinda Rae (meaning "light bearer" and "drop of golden sun")
