Okay...I'm totally ready for Christmas. DH started playing the Christmas carols last week-end, I've got a good start on my Christmas shopping, and I've started watching movies from my extensive Christmas movie collection, and this got me thinking. I was wondering what other peoples favorite movies are, and why. So here's my question, "What are your top three favorite Christmas movies, and why do you love them?

I'll start. First of all, I love ALL Christmas movies nomatter how sappy or low budget (explaining why I have a movie called Santa vs. the Martians). Narrowing it to the top three I'd have to say, "A Christmas Story" because it just feels like what Christmas is when you're a kid...then I really like, "Love Actually" because it is really Christmassy, English, and full of love in all its forms and permutations. Lastly, I like "Christmas Vacation" because it reminds me of any number of Christmases that I experienced growing up in my disfunctional family---and it still leaves you feeling full of the holiday spirit! Not to mention "It's a Wonderful life (in B&W)", "White Christmas", "Holiday Inn"...I could go on, but these are the ones I always watch more than once over the holiday.

I'm anxious to hear others favorites...

Celeste

Totally has to be White Christmas. My husband's favorite is definitely Christmas Vacation (do our movie choices reflect our personalities?) and I've got to say that even though it's a kids movie and will sound funny on this list, we all really enjoy seeing the Nutcracker ballet so much more thoroughly after having watched Barbie's Nutcracker movie. It really helps in interpreting the ballet for us at least!

Our family tradition is putting the tree up while watching "Little Women" with Winona Ryder. We also watch the Family Stone with Sarah Jessica Parker, and of course Rudolph.

They always put me in the mood!

Sue,
I love that movie. Babes in Toyland isn't it? The one with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon??
I watch that one every year. Its not Christmas without it. They made a new colorized version, but I like the old black and white better. :)

I have tried to choose just one to respond to this post, but I keep seeing more this year on TV and enjoy them so much, I can't choose! Last night Home Alone was on and I laughed so hard and got so tickled. I really can't choose just one or 2 or even 3.

Oh....I like the movie Serendipity too.

I love Christmas movies! My newest favorite is Love Actually--ya gotta love Hugh Grant dancing through the house to the Pointer sisters song. My two all time favorites are A Christmas Carol and White Christmas. I try to always watch White Christmas on Christmas Eve, late.

Now I have a great Bing Crosby story for you. My Grandma, who is 93, sharp as a tack and very healthy--some good genes there--grew up in Spokane. She was the youngest of three and her older brother was good friends with Bing Crosby in college. Her brother had a party at their house one night and grandma got sent to bed early....she was 8. She wasn't too happy about it and snuck down to sit on the stairs in her footie pj's and watch the party. There was alot of singing and dancing going on. Bing spied her hiding on the stairs, brought her down and danced with her in her footie pajamas. I wasn't ever sure I believed that story until I heard her tell it myself. She also said she sang female leads in musicals at North Central High School opposite Bob Crosby, Bing's brother.

Serendipity
I love this movie with John Cusick and Kate Beckinsale ~

Here is the little review~ Such a great little show!

"One magical night, Jonathan met Sara. He was in love at first sight, but Sara believed in destiny. She would choose him, but only they were destined to be together. Now, after 10 years, Jonathan and Sara have 1 last chance to find out if what might have been, could still be. When love feels like magic you call it destiny. When destiny has a sense of humor, you call it “Serendipity.”

My favorite Christmas movie as well as my favorite movie of all time is 'It's a Wonderful Life'. I love Jimmy Stewart in it and he's one of my favorite actors. There is such a wonderful message in this film... there is no riches, like the riches of friendship. I watch it every year during the holiday season, it's a tradition.

I am a Christmas movie junkie....I could and have watched them in the summer! Narrowing it down to three is kinda difficult...here goes.Number one-Drum roll please....It's A Wonderful Life.I just love it when Clarence tells George that see, he really has had a wonderful life and yes, George realizes that indeed he has.I always cry and the family always makes fun of me.
My second favorite is The Little Drummer Boy....the old claymation one.My husband and I have made a date and watched that show every year we have been together (twenty five plus years!).
The third is a toughie...Christmas In CT (I love Barbara Stanwick) so sweet and funny or The Bells of St. Marys- Bing Crosby is teriffic and the story is so lovely ...I really can't decide.

Let's dance in the rain and play in the puddles under the rainbows.

Love the ones mentioned--especially White Christmas, Holiday Inn and Meet me in St. Louis. Falling in love again with It's a Wonderful Life (got a little burnt out at one time) but I love, love, Little Women (the newer version, with Susan Sarandon?). A great deal of the movie takes place at Christmas time and winter, and it's truly one of my favorite stories.

I love Christmas movies and specials. I think my favorite is A Christmas Carol. I love to watch all the movies when they're on. I was just searching through our satellite tv yesterday to find out when all the shows are on.

Oh, I couldn't possibly pick just one. My favorites are the ones that I feel good about watching anytime of the year. Mixed Nuts, Love Actually, Christmas Vacation & Elf. I actually own the soundtracks for Love Actually and Mixed Nuts! Then there is always the Bridget Jones Diary movies which have some of the best Christmas scenes.

A Christmas Story and Miracle on 34th Street (the old one) are still the much beloved traditional movies in our house but we only watch those in December.

Thanks for filling in the blank, Karen! I don't know why I couldn't remember that. I like it and It's a Wonderful Life for the exact same reasons you do. I love A Christmas Story just because it seems normal, which makes it all the funnier for me.

Wow, Brenda! What a story. That's really cool.

I love so many of them, but It's a Wonderful Life definitely tops them all. Jimmy Stewart is probably my all time favorite actor though, so that has something to do with it. I also love White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. I have a soft spot for Bing Crosby, since he spent much of his growing up years in Spokane, my Grandpa (Papa) was best friends with his older brother and Bing was the annoying pesty little brother and then my uncle, who worked as a photographer for the Associated Press, caught Bing at his cabin in Hayden Lake when he was first having his affair with his eventual second wife. He was irrate at my uncle, but my uncle was quite pleased when his photo ran in newspapers across the country . . . I know, not a proud heritage, since that was sort of early day paparazzi, but still makes me smile when I think about it. One of Bing's grand kid's is named Hayden after Hayden Lake! Anyway, when I watch White Christmas or Holiday Inn, I always try to imagine the Bing that my Papa knew. Once Papa went to a downtown car dealer to purchase a car. He always paid cash, but dressed in his railroad overalls (he was an engineer for the Union Pacific.) So he looked rather poor and couldn't seem to get anyone to wait on him. Then in walks Bing. He sees Papa and starts chatting away with him. Suddenly Papa was able to get the best service ever! Proving once again . . . it's not what you know, it's who you know! Anyway, that was a total rabbit trail, but it has made his movies take on a new light. But he still doesn't hold a candle to my Jimmy Stewart!

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda
