Okay...I'm totally ready for Christmas. DH started playing the Christmas carols last week-end, I've got a good start on my Christmas shopping, and I've started watching movies from my extensive Christmas movie collection, and this got me thinking. I was wondering what other peoples favorite movies are, and why. So here's my question, "What are your top three favorite Christmas movies, and why do you love them?
I'll start. First of all, I love ALL Christmas movies nomatter how sappy or low budget (explaining why I have a movie called Santa vs. the Martians). Narrowing it to the top three I'd have to say, "A Christmas Story" because it just feels like what Christmas is when you're a kid...then I really like, "Love Actually" because it is really Christmassy, English, and full of love in all its forms and permutations. Lastly, I like "Christmas Vacation" because it reminds me of any number of Christmases that I experienced growing up in my disfunctional family---and it still leaves you feeling full of the holiday spirit! Not to mention "It's a Wonderful life (in B&W)", "White Christmas", "Holiday Inn"...I could go on, but these are the ones I always watch more than once over the holiday.
I'm anxious to hear others favorites...
Celeste

I love Christmas movies - any kind!! I'm so excited this time of year because Hallmark Channel has the best movies. My favorite modern movie is The Holiday. I've watched that 5 times in the last month.
But White Christmas is my very very favorite. My daughter and I have a tradition that we started many years ago. On Thanksgiving evening we sit and watch White Christmas together.

Lisa, it's "Miracle on 34th Street." And you picked my favorite three also!
Oh yea, why I love them....... "Miracle on 34th Street" because I still like to believe there really is a Santa Claus. "It's a Wonderful Life" because you never really know how many lives you touch. And "A Christmas Story" - this explanation is going to take a while. I taught elementary music for 9 years and I was single at the time. After several years of going home to my empty house after the program was over felt like having a wedding and then going home alone while everyone else went to the reception - all that planning and then it was over. One year I decided to rent a movie and go to my friends' house to watch it after the Christmas program. The movie I chose was "A Christmas Story" because it sounded cute. I laughed so hard watching that movie. When we were done I took it to another friend's house and watched it there. Then I watched it again when I got home. Needless to say the kids got the best of me the next day at school as I didn't get much sleep that night!

I love White Christmas, but I also love Meet Me In St. Louis. It's not a full Christmas movie, but I do consider it a Christmas movie. It's one of those that I just love!

Guess mine would be the Santa Claus with Tim Allen. Though, Charlie Brown's Christmas runs a close second:)

My ULTIMATE favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas. I ALWAYS cry at the end!! And Julie, my second favorite is Christmas Vacation! The funniest scene just has to be when Chevy Chase is in the department store!!!!

Celeste, My all time #1 favorite is "It's a Wonderful Life" I think it would be great to see what would have happened had we not been born, I think it would make us all more humble to see how many lives we have actually touched and how that interaction effected those people. I also love the claymations because I ALWAYS watched them growing up. And then there are Christmas is CT with one of my favorite actors S.C."Cuddles" Sakall. He just feels like a family uncle and someone I would have loved to know and have over to the house. I'll finish up with White Christmas because I love to watch Fred Astaire (I hope my brain is working and I matched him with the right title).
Okay I lied, I also really like the Santa Claus movies with Tim Allen. I would be happy if he came out with a new one every year.
I'm quite the sucker for the old movies. I usually don't find the wholesomeness I like in the new movies.
(I know you only asked for 3, but like so many of you, I just can't narrow it down to 3. Christmas is my favorite time of year)

I love so many of them, but It's a Wonderful Life definitely tops them all. Jimmy Stewart is probably my all time favorite actor though, so that has something to do with it. I also love White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. I have a soft spot for Bing Crosby, since he spent much of his growing up years in Spokane, my Grandpa (Papa) was best friends with his older brother and Bing was the annoying pesty little brother and then my uncle, who worked as a photographer for the Associated Press, caught Bing at his cabin in Hayden Lake when he was first having his affair with his eventual second wife. He was irrate at my uncle, but my uncle was quite pleased when his photo ran in newspapers across the country . . . I know, not a proud heritage, since that was sort of early day paparazzi, but still makes me smile when I think about it. One of Bing's grand kid's is named Hayden after Hayden Lake! Anyway, when I watch White Christmas or Holiday Inn, I always try to imagine the Bing that my Papa knew. Once Papa went to a downtown car dealer to purchase a car. He always paid cash, but dressed in his railroad overalls (he was an engineer for the Union Pacific.) So he looked rather poor and couldn't seem to get anyone to wait on him. Then in walks Bing. He sees Papa and starts chatting away with him. Suddenly Papa was able to get the best service ever! Proving once again . . . it's not what you know, it's who you know! Anyway, that was a total rabbit trail, but it has made his movies take on a new light. But he still doesn't hold a candle to my Jimmy Stewart!
Hugs & blessings,
Brenda

Oh, I couldn't possibly pick just one. My favorites are the ones that I feel good about watching anytime of the year. Mixed Nuts, Love Actually, Christmas Vacation & Elf. I actually own the soundtracks for Love Actually and Mixed Nuts! Then there is always the Bridget Jones Diary movies which have some of the best Christmas scenes.
A Christmas Story and Miracle on 34th Street (the old one) are still the much beloved traditional movies in our house but we only watch those in December.
