Oh gosh - in my quest to simplfy and declutter my life, I don't think I collect 10 things anymore. Let's see...

Use to collect sheep statues/figurines, mostly porcelin, 'cause I raised sheep. I've only kept the ones that came from England, Ireland or Scotland.

Books, books and more books. Gardening, nature, self sufficiency, living off the land, women doing it on their own, 'cause they are inspiring and educational.

Hankies - yep I still use them. 'cause they're so pretty.

Stationary - 'cause I still give hostess gifts when invited to someones home and I send thank you notes for gifts, favors, and invites.

Old book plates - they're a great, inexpensive way to add unique art to your home.

Cool garden stuff - just 'cause it looks great in my yard.

Little vases or containers to use as vases - so I have someplace worthy of my antique roses.

Unusual serving pieces, especially one's with farm animals.

Hats - 'cause I love wearing hats.

That's all I can think of.

these lists are great to keep handy for the 'random kindness' gifts we give to each other .. and for when we each have our turn at being the 'farmgirl of the month'. xo

I love all sorts of things,
old hats,
nutcrackers,
old toys,
aunt jemima(sp?),(Dh grandmother gave me a few before she passed away)
cool old kitchen items (like to hang around top of kitchen)
any antique,
love old bathroom items(tins, medicine bottles, ect.)
fall stuff,
candles,
homemade soap,
old pipes cause dh loves them and
old fishing lures.
There is one thing I have been looking for but when I find it the price is always to high. I dont collect it just want one to hang on bathroom door. A pretty vintage gown or slip.
Oh yes and any kind of art project materials or crafty items. (cause I homeschool and love to do crafts with the boys)
I'm sure theres more but that kinda gives you an idea. karen

I collect so many random things. Lets see---

BOOKS!!! I LOVE books! Everywhere you look in my house you will find at least a PILE of them! I have TONS of cookbooks-- the vintage are my fave's-- I even have a "Mrs. Beetons" from 1912 (the recipes are TERRIBLE!! No spices!) I have lots of craft, decorating and livestock books too, among others.

Fabric-- I dream about all the quilts and pretty's I want to make with them but.... you know how that goes! (see my response to the "UFO" topic in the Stitchin' section!)

Embroiderd Pictures-- I CAN embroider, I just don't LIKE to! So, I collect everyone else's hard work!

Table linens, doily's etc...-- the table linens are mostly from the 40's & 50's-- reminds me of Grandma.

Anything with sheep or chickens on it!

Vintage dress and decorating patterns. I have GOBS of them! (Starting from 1930 and up)

Willow Tree Figurines-- I just love their siplistic beauty.

Handmade Pottery-- I pick up random pieces at thrift stores etc... I even found some nice oil burning lamps for CHEAP!

Furs! I know some people think that's horrible, but the poor things are already dead, and have been for a VERY looooong time, I just give them new home where they are loved and petted.

Dolls-- nothing special, just whatever strikes my fancy. (A lot are "Ashton Drake", some "Gene" dolls and my mother's old Paradise Gallery dolls (those are rather sad, they survived a house fire years ago, but did not come out unscathed. She LOVED those dolls and I don't have the heart to part with them.)

I USED to collect Vintage clothing/shoes/hats/gloves and WEDDING GOWNS! I still have some of those things, but they were taking up too much room all over the place, so I kept just my absolute favorites and got rid of the rest. It's really hard for me to pass up a beautiful piece, but I've learned to bite my tounge, put my hands in my pockets and just WALK AWAY!!! I also tell myself that someone ELSE would appreciate it more than I do! I'd just pack it in a box and never see it agian! ~~~ Tracy

10 things I collect.

Ceramic (animals and pitcher shaped) coffee creamers. Presently looking for the Shawnee pig shaped one. Oops I just realized, I have it. Must have too many.

Cast Iron cookware. Have a cabinet full that I use everyday. Looking for a griddle and waffle maker.

West Bend cast aluminum cookware. I collect teal and pink sets.

Fancy glasses my favorite at the moment is a glass that is etched and has silver leaves on them. I use them everyday so I need to have replacements when drop them.

Children's books old and new. Must have 300 in that collection.

Lamps and light fixtures. We use them through out our house but I do have to hide new ones in the attic.

Chairs, Love them but again have to hide the new ones to the collection.

Pyrex bowl sets. Only have about 5 sets of these. Goodness knows a persons can never have enough of these colored bowls.

Antique kitchen utensils and cooking gadgets. Must have 8 different types of grinders don't even know what some of them grind.

Embroidery pillow case. We use them on our beds daily. Love to give these as wedding shower gifts. I once had a girl friend ask me if my DH knew how many (Ok heres the additction in me) plastic totes full I have in the attic. No WAY!!!!!!! He would send me to a 12 step program.

WOW I'm at 10 and have just started. My newest collection (can't get many more lamps, chairs, and linens in the attic) are dolls, and sewing machines. Just found a beauty 1927 White with oak case setting at the end of someones driveway. Took 4 days for me to bring it home but once DH saw it he brought it home for me. It works like a charm, cabinet needs a bit of work as it must have been in a barn. It will become a new night stand in the guest room. My studio already has three and I can only use 1 at a time.

Guess you can say I'm a collecting addict!!!!!!

Hmmm...are there even 10 things?
1. Cobalt blue glass items. I don't really know why, I just love the richness of the glass. Most of these items get used in one way or another; even if it's only to hold cuttings or a few flowers.
2. Pretty tablecloths. They get used, but I have to admit I have more than I really need. I just can't help but pick them up when they catch my eye.
3. Decorative and usable birdhouses. That is the theme in my kitchen and I have several out in the yard that are in use. I just love birds. They are so much fun to watch.
4. Craft birds. What else would go with a birdhouse?
5. Candles and candle holders of all sorts and sizes. This is more of a practical thing as we lose power here a lot.
6. Metal tins. The big ones hold bulk items in the pantry. The small ones are filled with cookies for Christmas for neighbors.
7. Hats. Mostly ball caps. I have one straw hat and a couple of prairie bonnets and one ball cap-type, but the brim is really large. I'm always on the lookout for wide brimmed straw hats with a low crown. I started collecting these when I found I had to avoid sun exposure.
8. I used to collect teddy bears. I don't really know why I collected them; some childhood thing, I suppose. I still have a lot but, I don't really look for them anymore as I have so many. But, if I happen to stumble on an unusual, or particularly beautiful one; that's different.
9. Old canning jars with either the glass lids or zinc lids. I use them to hold baking items like nuts, raisins, soda, baking powder, herbs, etc. They look really nice on the shelves over my baking center.
10. I can't really think of another thing. Would pine needles count?

OK lets see.

I collect: antique marbles, 'cause who would have guessed glass with swirls could be so pretty and expensive at times

tiny cat figurines all displayed in a type tray. These started weh I was 6 and got my first porcelean cat for Christmas

Swarovski crystal annual Christmas ornaments and sun catchers. Thank Pollyana and her room of rainbows. And I had no idea these ornaments actually appreciate in value!

dust bunnies, 'cause I'd rather be outside than inside cleaning

weird and unusual liquor bottles from abroad

bailing twine from bales of hay at work

ball canning jars for just about everything

foreign currency

anything that smells of lavender

tomato boxes from work to hold said jars. That, and the boxes are durable and just plain cute

Old keys- What did they open?
Ephemera- I love old handwriting and brittle paper. Don't really know why. :)
Sparkly vintage jewelery. The sparklier, the better.
Miniature furniture- I have a thing for tiny.
Bird nests- Miracles, each and every one. If they fall, I cannot throw them away.
Eggs (only ones I find on the ground.)
Stones from places I've been- They fit in tiny glass bottles nicely.
Vintage fabric- Soft, worn, charming.
Frannie's dolls- Because they are so darn cute and they each have their own their personality.
Blue and white and red and white antique china- I just love china.

Ah, I love collecting.

It's so nice to see what everyone collects. I didn't even realize I had a collection of this or that till I started reading everyone else's replies.

So here goes:
1. Vintage music boxes- my ex actually got this collection started kind of. I weeded out the music boxes he bought me and went to collecting mostly vintage pieces.
2. Oil Lamps- left here for me when mom moved out
3. Chicken and rooster anythings- Mom decided she didn't want to decorate her kitchen with chicks anymore so she sent them home with me. I was originally doing my kitchen in a farm theme. every aspect of a farm and well the chickens took over the roost.
4.Candles- I love the smell of a good candle!!
5. Christmas Ornaments- I love Christmas!! I have thinned them out quite a bit, but can't give them up completely.
6. Make-up- My sister sells avon and I can't help it. I love all the colors. I just wish they looked as good one me as they do the models. :(
7. Flip flops- just started this one this summer. I think because of all the hot flashes and I can't stand for my feet to be hot.
8. Cd's- mostly country music-why because I love music. When it's just me and I'm cleaning the house, I pop one in the dvd player and crank the surround sound as loud as it will go.
9. Magazines- crafts, home decorating.... I love the inpiration I get from them and they come in handy for mail art and kids crafts.
10. Silk flowers, grapevine wreaths, ribbon- I love to make wreaths and flower arrangements.

That pretty much does it for my collectins. I have plenty of dust bunnies, dog hair, dirt, cobwebs and three kids to make sure my dirt collection keeps growing.

Fabric
Yarn
Anything pink flamingo
Anything garden gnomish
Kitty-cat things
Magnets, both from places we've been and cute vintage-looking magnets
Vintage linens or embroidery. Bonus points if they were stitched by people I know.
Blythe dolls (only have three, they're expensive!)
Buttons
Embroidery thread and patterns

I love enamelware, silverware, silver picture frames (I think they make pics pop and they add "sparkle" to the walls), and stars- all sizes and shapes and different materials. I don't collect much but I do like what I have.
